I walk out of the town and shudder. " At least were away from those bugs. Come out Squrtle and Growlite! We need to train you up then pratice contest moves!"

Squirtle and Growlithe walk around, enjoying the fresh air and the nice day. A Silcoon Level 11 Male walks out of the grass and onto the path in front of the three of you.

He could be an audience for the contest appeals, or an opponent in battle...

"Ello' Mate! Would you like to watch us?" He tackled me. "Ok, You asked for it! Growlithe use ember!"

Silcoon is hit by the flames and becomes Almost Weakened. He hardens up his shell to raise his defense because that is the only move he knows...

"Growlithe! Use another ember and make it red-hot!"

Silcoon is hit by more flames and he raises his defense another notch. Silcoon realizes he should have stayed in the grass...

"Yep! Its like what they say: Curiosity fainted the Chimeco! One last ember Growlithe!"

Growlithe spews flames from his mouth and knocks Silcoon out. Catch Silcoon?

"Yep. Go Contest ball!"

The ball hits Silcoon and he is absorbed inside and sent to your storage system.

"Cool. Squrtle we have to level you up now!" "Squrt!" He said, looking around for an avarsary.

You walk down the path a bit more when Squirtle tugs on your shirt. You look down at him and he points up in the sky. You see a faint ball of yellow, glowing light traveling through the sky. The wind begins to die down, and the yellow light falls from the sky gently and lands on the ground behind you.

You continue moving forward when Squirtle stops you and points behind you. You turn and see a small Level 11 Female crawling down the path in your direction...

"Oh my gosh! Its a shiny! Squirtle use a tackle on the Wurmple!"

Squirtle runs forward and tackles Wurmple, doing average damage. Wurmple takes offense to this, so he tackles Squirtle right back...

"Good! Now I want you to run and tackle, then jump back when its startled, and dodge its attacks!"

Squirtle tackles Wurmple again, making him Almost Weakened. Wurmple jumped back, but Wurmple fired a string shot at him, lowering his speed a notch...

"Squirtle now I want you to tackle it, but watch out for anything it might do!"

Squirtle runs forward and tackles Wurmple into the grass. Wurmple lands on some dried up grass that seemed to be becoming more frequently popping up this month.

Wurmple jumps up and shoots another piece of string at Squirtle, lowering his speed further...

"Gah! Why do all you Wurmples do the same thing?!?!?! Squirtle use another tackle and make it cringe!!!"

Squirtle ran forward, but Wurmple moved out of the way! Squirtle's speed was too low.

Wurmple then fired a poison sting at Squirtle, doing average damage...

"AGGGGH! Squirtle use a tail whip then a tackle!"

Wurmple fires another string shot at Squirtle, lowering his speed even farther. Squirtle runs forward and wags his tail at Wurmple, then tackles him, doing a little more than average damage...

"Ok, better! Use the same attacks again!"

Wurmple fires a poison sting at the Squirtle, doing average damage. Squirtle wags his tail at Wurmple, lowering his defense a notch, then tackles him and makes him Very Weak...

"Squirtle one more tackle then go Contest Ball!"

Squuirtle ran forward and tried to tackle Wurmple, but missed! Wurmple ran at Squirtle from the side and tackled him, doing average damage...

"Arrrggh!!!! Squirtle one more tackle and make sure it hits!"

Squirtle tackles Wurmple knocking him out...

"Ha Ha! Take that spooty wurmple! Go contest ball!"

The ball hits Wurmple and absorbs her inside. The ball crunches a few times as it rolls in the dry grass, then it dings. The ball is whisked away to the storage system...

"Alright! Good job! Now, come here Squirtle, I want to give you something." I pulled out my Toxic TM and placed the disc on Squirtle's head. It broke and Squirtle glowed purple for a moment, then faded back his natural color.

Growlithe looked at Squirtle jealously. "Oh, alright, come here Growlithe." I pulled out my Thief TM and placed it on Growlithe's head. He glowed black for a moment, then the color faded. "Alright, lets get this started!"

"Squirtle I want you to try a water gun! Go!" He looked at me as if I was crazy, then squirted a stream of water out, but not as big as I had hoped for. "Hmmm, lets try this again, and give it all you got!" This time the water had come out perfectly, making the grass shimmer as the water landed on it. "Good. Now I want you to try toxic." He squrted a big purple blob out of his mouth and it landed on the grass, making it turn a stomach-churning brown. Ewww. That was nasty. I thought, turning away from the poisoned grass.

"Uhh, good. Now, here's what I want you to do. Spit out poison blobs, about five into the air, and use bubble to encase them. Try to jump on the bubbles and as soon as you withdraw into your shell, use a water gun and use it to cushion your fall."

Squirtle did as he was told, spitting out the blobs into the air and using bubbles to capture the purple goo as it fell. It fell much more slowly. He jumped on the first, second, and third bubble, but then he slipped on the fourth one! He fell, popping the bubbles and making the toxic attack fall on him. "Oh no Squirtle!" I ran around in circles trying to catch him, but, unfortunately, missed. Luckily, Growlithe caught him in his teeth, and set Squirtle down on the grass. "Oh my gosh thank you Growlithe!" I patted him on the head. He grinned. Squirtle, being out of commission for the moment, ate his sitrus berry to stop the poison. He walked over to a log and sat down, breathing heavily.

"Well Growlithe, I guess its your turn." I said, sitting down on the same log as Squirtle. "Grrrroooowllll!" He said, trotting over to the grass in front of me. "Hmm, lets see... Use an ember!" A large ember was fired from Growlithe, putting the grass in flames, due to the grass being so dry. "AGGGHHH! Squirtle use water gun!" Squirtle had enough energy to put out the fire, but then fell asleep from being so exhausted.

"Ok, now this time, when you use ember, turn around in a circle when you use it!" Growlithe used ember, turning around in a slow circle and letting the flames surround him. I had to think quick, or else the grassfire would spread! "Ummmm, use theif to put the flames on your body!" Growlithe swiped at the grass, watching all the flames jump onto him. "Now run in a circle!"

Growlite ran, pretty quickly too, for his size. The flames leaped off of him in a graceful, but powerful looking way. "Nice job! I think we will call that Flaming Grace." It was now about dusk, and since Squirtle was already asleep, I think we would call it a night.

I woke up early, Squirtle and Growlithe still being asleep. My stomach growled and I went to look for breakfast for all of us. In a tree not far away, there were some berries for all of us, at least enough for 7 a piece. I took them and woke up the two goobers and we all ate. Squirtle looked alot better than he had yesterday after his "preformance" and a lot happier too.

After we were all done, we tried Squirtle's appeal again. He shot Toxic blobs in the air, looking more focused than he was last time. Bubbles were lauched, engulfing the toxic goo, making the bubbles look purple in the sunlight. "Squirtle! be careful jumping this time!" I said, brimming with exitement. He jumped on the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth bubbles, then jumping high in the air. Squirtle withdrew in his shell and shot a water gun on the ground, slowly coming down with the pressure of the water.

"Mega cool Squirtle!" I was jumping up and down and clapping, and even Growlithe, who had been distracted with a butterfree in the air, had seen the appeal and was giving his howl of approval. "I think we will call that one....Water rocket!"

We continued on the path, Squirtle in my arms and Growlithe by my side. Growlithe just HAD to stop and sniff at everything new he saw. I finally picked him up too, or else we would never get anywhere at this pace! We had stopped to have lunch, a few berries we had saved from breakfast. A rustle in the bushes got our attention, and we all looked over at it. Something was in the bushes.....

[5.5 levels]

It was...a person! He pulled himself out of the bush and he had twigs all over him. He brushed at them and looked at you. "I saw a Skitty run through the bush so I tried to catch it before it could get away. Skitty are really rare around here, and it would have helped me win a contest. Do you want to battle?" He awaited your response...

(3 to Squirtle, letting him evolve, and 2.5 to Growlithe)

"Sure why not? Go Growlithe!"

The trainer tells you that you can make the first move.

"Growlithe start out with a roar and then an ember!"

The trainer tosses a pokeball forward and an Ekans Level 12 Male is released. The snake hisses as Growlithe roars very loudly and raises his attack.

Ekans slithers forward and bites him, doing average damage. Growlithe attacks back by shooting little flames at Ekans, also doing average damage...

"Use another ember! Burn the Ekans!"

Growlithe fires another barrage of flames at Ekans, but he manages to slither out of the way. He jumps up and bites Growlithe again...

"ARRGH!!! Use a ember, but do it in different positions!"

Growlithe fires more embers at Ekans, making him Weakened. Ekans slithers forward and tries to bite Growlithe, but misses!
