Smak Factor was invited to play alongside SOG 7 in the SPPL Style Woodsball Tournament at Xtreme Paintball in Millistadt, Illinois on March 8. Unfortunately I was the only one from the team that was able to go. To fill in the remaining spots we picked up two players from Total Grief, and a field regular (I believe his name is Kent).
Our first game was against the Samurai. The first half went well, and the weather cooperated with us. By the start of the second half, rain had started to POUR down on us. Visibility aside, we weren't bothered by it because our team was primarily using mechanical markers. About five to ten minutes into the second half the rain stopped, and high winds helped to dry everything out. When the horn sounded, SOG 7 prevailed with a score of 68 to 51. We were relieved that our hardest game of the day was over, but knew that we would have to keep up the intensity level if we were going to win. Several times during the remaining two games we tried to be careful not to shoot the entire opposing team out because we didn't want them to call a "re-break." That would have kept us from holding all three bases until the next reinsertion. We won our other two games of the day, going undefeated in the tournament. At the end of the day, the Samurai came out on top by accumulating a total of six more points than SOG 7 did. SOG 7 ended up with the second place trophy, but all of us were pleased with our win-loss record for the day. At the request of SOG 7, I will be returning to play with them in the next SPPL Style Woodsball Tournament at Xtreme on May 17th. It was a great day of playing and a great tournament overall. I'm already looking forward to May. |
