have you tried adding detail to clothing? You know make it not look like it's plastered to the body? That helps. What also helps is paying close attention to things like TV shows and cartoons to see the way people move and look.

I start with a stick figure and flesh it out.

Practice, practice, practice. I try to draw at least 15 people a day. I rarely clothe them, I am just trying to perfect my proportions.

Then again, so people just have it. Anyone can do this, but some people pick it up alot quicker. The trick is being able to have a clear image in your head and getting it to paper.

Another VERY good thing to have is an extremely good knowledge of human anatomy. If you know how the muscles are arranged in a body, then you will have a heads up on where to make the fine lines at on your drawing. For me, hips are BY FAR the hardest thing to get right. I can't do em to save my life. So, care to take a guess what I practice on the most? ;)

If anybody does still need it, I will try to help, but I randomly moved from FL to PA, so it may be a little while before I am able to draw again. But I'll be at it soon enough. :)

^^^ Didn't realize I could post as a guest. This is Omega. >.<

I enjoy it when I do it but I'm a perfectionist. Is there any harm in trying to improve my art so I can better enjoy a finished product? Some i can be totally proud of?

eh ... The caps were simply used to empasize. I don't mean to offend.

Noticing one thing, perfectionism clogs up the creative transfer highway, I think we should try to remove this trait. Drawings made under stress do not often come out too well.

Also, you notice most commissioned works do not come off as well as an art the artist draw for fun. Enayla (she's my idol) draws loads of really beautiful art. When it comes to drawing for money, the pieces are not as good, in my opinion.

My point is, maybe you should all just free you minds and not fear screwing up, to not think when you draw.

Give this a try? I would be keen to see the results. :)

Or as my art teacher would say, "Draw what you see, not what you think you see."

haha Teachers aren't always right, you know? I got that from personal experience.

We should use a method we Singaporeans call: "anyhow draw". Basically, draw what ever YOU want, have your own way with the canvas - as Enayla would say.

I use the stick-cylinder-flesh method.

First, all of my art begins as a stick figure. Once you master proportions, you can do this. One can actually master proportions by doing stick figures. The second step to fleshing out your character is to add three dimensional cylinders, and by seeing how they overlap each other, you will be able to see how the arms should be laid out.

Arm length generally goes to the middle of the upper leg. To determine arm length if the arm is not straight down, then you should use a reasonable guesstimate of how long the arm should be to get to the middle of the leg, if that makes any sense.

That's the method I use at least. :)

When I get back home, I will accompany my posts in here with pictures. :)
