I've seen him VERY occasionally on the Pit; all I know for sure is that he's on a hiatus of some sort. Don't have any details... sorry.

Uh...had a slight weapons malfunction. But, uh, everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

Howdy Ho!! I have been roleplaying for over 24years now. People talk trash about roleplayers, but I think it is because they have never really roleplayed. Some people might think I am too old to roleplay, like it is for kids or something, but it is in my blood after all these years and I can never turn my back on it. I have played and made many systems, I have a certian respect for D6 StarWars, I think it was brilliant in it's simplicity and I have ripped it off many times when making a system on the fly. I met Jamfke on rpg.net and thought he had totally disappeared, but to my surprise I was wrong.

<------- Avatar pretty.

Ok, enough sillyness out of me.

As far as RPGing goes, I think the attitude people take of it being for kids has a lot to do with how society treats it as a whole. One of the best examples I can think of is the comic strip Foxtrot in which the geeky little brother is a major roleplayer and his older siblings pretty much look down their noses at him about it, especially his sister. Pretty much it's potrayed in there as something for nerds, geeks and kids, something that most folks would grow out of once their in their teens. Over all society seems to teach us that as we get older we should give up a lot of our childhood pursuits. Some are ok to carry into our teens as long as we don't hang on to them for too long.

And yet there are the MMRPGs online such as City of Heroes that are fairly big hits and seem as likely to attract adults as kids. These games seem more likely to be accepted due to their anomisty. Just go on your computer and you can join folks from all over without anyone having to know anything about you. Videos games, a great many of them RPGs themselves without actually claiming to be such, meets roleplaying games. The internet itself has done a good deal for roleplaying as you can get a group together even if you can't find folks where you live. But at the same time it detracts a little because you don't actually get to see the folks your playing with and how they react.

One of the good things about RPGing that many in society may over look, caring only to see the paper a dice, is that it helps you to think creativly. You put yourself into the mind of your character, what do you do in a situation their put in. This can help in all walks of life, but too many don't see that.

Yes Hellcat, that was very well said. Your points are valid IMO. Wish society as a whole would try and understand the RPG industry.

QUOTE (AlexGrim @ Feb 2 2006, 01:59 PM)
Well said Hellcat, welcome aboard.

Well, I'm not actually new here, just don't post very often. Until last night I only posted twice, the first time when I first joined and the last time in December.

And we're glad to have you, Boomer! It's great to have a number of intelligent players that we're already familiar with on the Pit over here mixing it up with some new blood. smiley_karate.gif

G'Day

I'm another aussie role-player. I also enjoy writing and just being creative in general. I did not play in the 80's or the 90's though... I could have. I was to busy dabbling in amateur theatre instead - which is a form of roleplay wink.gif
