But seriously, it's probably because some dork in an office at the games company decided (or it was decided for him by a higher-up) that he and/or his group of colleagues needed to come up with a completely new system to show why the company was still keeping them on the payroll...

So they had to go and complicate things by adding a completely new system to the mix. Maybe they thought the D6 system didn't appeal to hardcore D&Ders, but I think they're on the crack pipe- HARD!! dry.gif

Actually, pre-WoC TSR playtested Alternity using a Star Wars setting. Was that the rules system they originally wanted to use for the new Star Wars rules? I guess we won't know, since WoC bought them, and moved everything to d20.

I do have a set of "round d20's" though.
