  I never actually played the MSH system... I did play DC Heroes, and a friend of mine cobbled the two together. I played a session running Batman and Robin, Green Lantern, and Thor. I can't even remember who we were fighting, but the baddies were gonna get away until I had GL bag them in a force field. When Thor caught up I let him in and changed the form of the field to that of a wrestling cage, complete with announcer. <Let's get ready to RUMBLE!!!!!!!!>

I had the guys laughing so hard! That was a fun session.

  You're right, the game did need more detail for 'roleplaying'. But again, I was about fifteen or sixteen when I played the thing, and I was still very new to roleplaying then.

On the flipside though, a lot of comics were basically along these lines during that time too. Spend a few frames on what the characters are doing in real life, and then the baddies show up trying to kick some butt, and it was on. Fighting didn't stop until the baddies were aprehended or got away.

Such simple entertainment for my simple mind! rolleyes.gif

  It was cool in that if you had to make a roll to lift a truck, you rolled your Strength - although the color chart was a bit gimmicky (that color chart ended up in a lot of TSR games too, from Gamma World 3rd Ed, Indiana Jones, and Star Frontiers, to name a few). That chart also generated way too many 'kill' results for shooting powers too, either that, or my dice were biased - lol.

I liked the 'basic' MSH set (yellow book), the 'advanced' set (blue book) felt way too rules-heavy for a simple superheroes game. Plus in the advanced set, they dumped the comic-inspired method of presenting the rules for a more traditional 'rules book' approach (I liked Spidey reading the rules to me in the basic set, it just felt more like a comic book game).

One thing that bugged me about MSH was the lack of the help referees needed in telling a good comic book story (most superhero games have this problem, in fact). A lot of the MSH games I played in were just battle games where the bad guys showed up, and chaos ensued. In the end, I guess I just ended up collecting the superhero gazeteers more than I actually played the game.

  I played the Marvel Super Hero game a few times. I thought the sys. was kinda tedius though. F A S E R I P and all that laugh.gif

  I used to love running this game back in the day! It's been so long ago, I don't know where my books went, but I'd love to go through them again. *sigh* biggrin.gif
