Hi guy's thought this would be a good pinned/sticky thread. Let everyone know what you have just watched - this could be one word or 100, it's up to you!

So, seen anything good lately?

I'll start.

Body of Lies - Was bored last weekend and watched this on my cable service. I'd heard a lot of really negative views concerning this movie but thought what the hell - it's Ridley Scott! Have to say I really enjoyed it. I'm not normally a Di Caprio lover but I thought he pulled off his role extremely well. Comedy, action and a little suspense meant that this movie ticked a lot of boxes. Leo and Crowe's interactions are great with Mark Strong also giving an awesome performance. I'd definitely check it out if you're on the fence. 8.5/10

Wolverine - Popcorn movie through and through, nothing more, nothing less. Good action, questionable dialog but overall very entertaining. I enjoyed it as did most people in the cinema. It would have been nice to see more Wade Wilson but hey let's hope for that Deadpool spin off. Make sure you stay to the end of the credits to catch an extra scene - I believe these vary dependent on the copy of print the theatre has. Disengage brain and enjoy! 8/10

Sengoku - the king of pinnable threads.

It's been a bit of a dry spell for me and movies. I've got Netflix and all, but I've been sitting on a copy of Basketcase 2 for like a month or more. Before getting that the wife and I were on a Henenlotter kick where we watched Frankenhooker and the first Basketcase. I had caught a trimmed down version of Frankenhooker as a kid, but my recollection was minimal. Watching it again, however, kind of blew my mind. I absolutely think it's Henenlotter's best work and I can't recommend it enough to fans of trashy horror movies. Basketcase is an old favoirte, though I hadn't revisited it in some time. I don't think the wife shared my appreciation for BC, but she seemed to get a kick out of Frankenhooker.

Watched Observe and Report last night. It was clearly written for someone like McBride to play. Tho, his cameo was the tits. I thought it was good and I guess Rogen showed some range in his acting abilities.

I give it 2 joints lit. (kinda like 2 thumbs up)

Went to the theatre pub last night and watched gran torino. Excellent movie. I think Clint Eastwood must have turned in the definitive comedic performance of 2008 with his portrayal of the grumpy, bigoted Korean War vet.

Walt: "Oh, I've got one. A Mexican, a Jew, and a colored guy go into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, 'Get the fuck out of here.'"

Watched Fast & Furious yesterday. I thought it was a good time, you pretty much know what to expect with these type of films.

Conan The Barbarian was on TV later on so I had to watch it.

Just watched "The Machine Girl". It was amazing.

"The life of a young, Japanese schoolgirl is destroyed when her family is killed by a Ninja-Yakuza family. Her hand cut off, she replaces it with various machines-of-death, and seeks revenge."

At one point she stabs this woman through the back of the head and out the mouth. The victim gags on the blade and vomits, then spews blood over her sons decapitated head.

I watched Ong-Bak 2 the other day. It's basically Ong-Bak 1, but set in a feudal era, as opposed to recent times. I thought the ending was a cop out, but really, who watches this for the story? It's all about doing martial arts flips off of elephant tusks, etc, and as such, I was highly entertained.

Yeah, the ending seemed kinda abrupt but that's what happens when the star/director goes crazy with stress and wanders off into the jungle to meditate. The fight scene are much improved from Tony's last flick, nice to see he's putting some serious effort into the choreography.

The movies have been piling up.
I guess the last one I watched at home was BENJAMIN BUTTON. I thought I should watch it cuz I really liked Fight Club and Zodiac. This proved to be a terrible reason. It bored me to tears. Also, Benjamin is one of the most non characters I've ever seen in a movie. Aside from his unusual life cycle, there is absolutely nothing different about him. Those gelflings in Dark Crystal are more interesting. (I don't think it's Brad Pitt's fault...I'd been watching Burn After Reading, too, and the contrast is kinda surreal.=p)

Yes Man- Another Jim Carrey comedy and it's his pretty standard film. Lots of goofy faces and over the top slapstick. Of course the movie is about as predictable as they come but that's not why I watched it. It made me laugh and it being a comedy it accomplished it's goal.

Om Shanti Om- Great Bollywood film! I've had this on my netflix queue for a while and just got around to watching it. It's a lot of fun with about a million cameos from Bollywood stars. Also features newcomer Deepika Pakudone who is gorgeous.

Yay! I love Om Shanti Om! I have the soundtrack in my car.
Eye of the Needle- Old-ish (1981) suspense flick about a German spy who winds up on an isolated island with an English lady and her handicapped jerk husband. Plays kind of like a Hitchcock movie except with a lot of sex. The spy (Donald Sutherland) is good and creepy.

Last night the wife and I watched Eagle Eye, starring 2007's RD Actor of The Year Award Winner Shia Labeouf. Man, what a stinker. It was one of the most horribly paced films I've ever seen and the vibe of the film really seemed to conflict with the underlying sci-fi plot.

It did have Michael Chiklis in it, so I guess that made it worth sitting through.

Sunshine

Great sci-fi movie, kind of 2001ish with just a little dash of event horizon. I thought the way they presented the crew, in dealing with all the stresses and pressures of the situation, was excellent and I was gripped throughout the whole film, though my head was swimming in its very own uh, "space cloud", the whole movie, if you will. "We've reached the Cannabinoid Nebula, sir!"

Don't worry. I've seen Sunshine twice, once in the theater and once on Blu-ray, and I was swimming in the same nebula both times.

What I didn't quite like about Eagle Eye was that it couldn't quite seem to decide what it wanted to be. One minute it was a thriller, next a straight out action flick, next a sci-fi flick, now, with that many elements it could have been an entertaining and nicely made flick but I thought it was just very uninspired.
