Joshua was killed. a week later, Catherine discovered she was pregnant. It was only after that that she was made aware of werewolves. RELATIONSHIPSNOTES

History

Quinn Simon was born to Canadian parents, working at an embassy in Israel. A car bomb took her parents when she was six, and she was raised (and eventually adopted) by an Israeli family. When she got older, she found she had a taste for the Israeli military and even after her stint was up, she found employment with an American-based paramilitary contract company. Or, as their detractors would call them, "mercenaries."

What fun that was! Once she earned the respect of the boys, she was drinking and brawling and womanizing with the best of them. Less the latter than the former two, but now and again she did have to make an exception. There was just something about those beautiful Swedish--

Anyway. She found a great deal of common ground with a coworker in the organization. His name was Zeke Mazuo. After being in his unit for a while, they had a couple of trysts that they kept hidden just well enough that their colleagues could pretend it wasn't happening. A year or two passed of being stationed both near him and apart, and when Quinn's contract was coming up for renewal or termination... she realized that it meant that she might well outlive him. It occurred to her that she didn't want to live in a world where there was nothing of him left but a memory.

Choosing not to renew her contract, she met up with him a few more times and took with her a piece of that best of flings. She went to Canada to reconnect with some extended family, and ended up living with her uncle and cousin Shelly. Her uncle was too drunk to care much about what she did, but Shelly was full of opinions about Quinn's decision to bear the child of some American hired gun and for heaven's sake the man was black.

When their daughter was seventeen, Zea got a study grant to visit an area where Zeke Mazuo's unit was supposed to be stationed. Her daughter saw Zeke more recently than Quinn herself has, but now that Quinn knows her daughter survived the Snap because of the werewolf trait she inherited from her father, she holds out some hope that her old dear friend--and the father of her child--might also be alive. Provided he didn't get himself shot or stabbed or blown up or whatever other occupational hazards might still have gotten in the way, Quinn is comforted by the idea that she hasn't been left alone just yet.

So now she's got farm work to keep her fit, people who need to be taught several things beginning with "F," and plenty of lonely men or cute ladies to comfort. Despite the end of the world... it's a pretty good life. Sure, the opportunities to crawl through the dirt with a blade or a gun are few and far between, but she keeps herself busy and tries to keep herself sharp as best she can. Never knows, after all, when she might be needed for more than a quick tumble or a hand with the wife.

LIAM RUSSELL WESTCOTT

    Nicknames: Liam

    Species: Werewolf

    Phase: Feros
    Calling: Guardian's Calling

Liam Westcott is a man who prefers not to speak without purpose, and he certainly is not one to volunteer himself as a subject of conversation. Snippets of his past, a thing he prefers to leave dead and forgotten behind him, do surface from time to time, but the number of individuals who know even the skeleton of his story can be accounted for on one hand. But by the power of omnipotence, you shall hear the whole thing… or at least the gist of it.

His human years were trivial, if only to him. His mother was a store manager, his father a lawyer, and he their only child. As he would tell it, his upbringing was fairly straightforward. He went to school, made friends, lost friends, made mistakes and paid for them, lived through all the teenage angst that came with an emotionally distant mother and an emotionally abusive father, and subsequently rebelled against everything either of them expected of him. He was 19 and a year out of high school when his father demanded that he stop being such a “fuck up” and to make something of his life. For once, he complied. He made something of himself in a way only his father could appreciate. He enlisted in the army.

The experience agreed with him more than he could have possibly imagined. He flourished in this new setting, gobbling up everything they had to teach him. Within a year he was good enough to teach others, by age 25 he was an officer, and by age 26 his superiors could confide in him enough to send him on a rather confidential undertaking. He was stationed in a remote location within the jungles of Venezuela for two weeks without notable incident. And then, one morning so early it was still practically night, he was attacked. He had been taking a short cut through the forest, a path he had come to frequent by that point, when something drove him to the ground. Before he could react, there were teeth and claws tearing at him, ripping into his torso and face, and shredding his hands and arms as he strove to protect his throat. He couldn’t get to his gun. His assailant was relentlessly tearing at whatever part of him its fangs and claws could reach around the pathetic shield of his arms. Near delirious with pain and blinded by blood, he kicked out, catching the wolf in the ribs. It recoiled, and in that moment he got his gun. He was certain of one distinct yelp of pain above the sound of bullets ripping through the night but heard nothing again. He had collapsed into unconsciousness.

He would come to realize later that his attacker had been a Feros that had probably been hunting near by when it caught his sent, but at the time he had no words to explain what had attacked him let alone the finer details of what it was. Things were no easier to rationalize when he woke. Although his eyes were open, there was nothing but darkness. He blinked hard, recoiled in pain at the motion, and reopened his eyes. Nothing but that same abyss pressing down on his eyes. To complete his panic he could hear activity around him, knew that others were with him, but was kept stationary by his crippling pain… in theory. Panic made him flail and fight and shout out in confusion until he exhausted himself and could do nothing more. A local who spoke English explained things to him then, describing how they had found him and how Joseph had healed him but could not save his sight. This he could understand, but what was infinitely more difficult to grasp was what Joseph himself had to say, and not with words. It was one shock after another for Liam all throughout his recovery, each one escalating until the final breaking point: his first change.

Liam could no more begin to consider life without sight when he changed with the full moon. The nature of the Feros, which he had now become, coupled with his smoldering frustration and confusion over his lack of sight, meant life was hell for everyone involved. Liam had no control over the rage that encompassed him. Every fiber within him wanted nothing more than to tear into something, anything. But all throughout this, Joseph stayed by him, even when he suffered for his resolute support. He became Liam’s guide, acting both as his eyes and his teacher. It took years for Liam to gain proper control over the rage that would boil up under his skin with the slightest prompting, and through those years the two became inseparable. They balanced each other; one providing what the other lacked and became more one complete person than two separate individuals. They are rarely apart, although not for lack of individuality. Liam is edgy when he can’t feel Joseph near by, whether they’re distanced by choice or not. Part of it is his Guardian’s Calling, that insatiable need to protect those close to him, but it goes beyond that, which is something that even their pack members have trouble understanding.
