Title: VOTE: 2v2 Map

(RO)Capt. Ramius - January 6, 2010 02:42 AM (GMT)
Amidst all the complaints about the map choice, the ITDC (International ThunderDome Committee) has decided to put it up to a vote. Then, we will take the top 3 maps and do some test runs to see which one works best for the 2v2 format. Once the top 3 maps have been test run, the committee will deliberate behind closed doors (much like Congress over the heatlth care bill) till a final map is chosen.

Also, before you vote, do a little research of your own. I have even made it easy for you. Here are the map layouts with all the HQ locations. Click on each one, then click on the map to zoom in for a clear view. The HQ's are the little green houses.

Remember, the point total is 500... so if a small map is picked, we might need to tweek the respawn time.

Side Note: I did not include the big maps Derail & Wateland, also the other maps in the tourney - Rust & Rundown.

Click a map below, then click on the map to zoom in...

Can't anybody that has access to this website make a vote? Even people that aren't in RO? Should we have this vote in our classified forum? readneck

Yes your right. We are going on the honor system here.

High rise are you guys serious. I would prefer Afghan. Highrise everyone can just camp on those damn roofs and basically spawn kill people while his partner captures. I am not sure where the spawns would be but I am assuming they are inside on either side. I think im going to play all HQ tonight to get a feel of the maps but my vote thus far is Favela.

Did you not see all the links to the maps I posted above? Just bring up the map and see exactly where the HQ points are for each map.

Looks like Favela, Highrise, & Karachi are the 3 favorites. So now we need to test run these maps to see which works best. Lets get together and break into groups of 4 and run all 3 maps in HQ mode and judge for ourselves.

UPDATE-

Me, Smitty, Devil, & Beast did some test runs of Favela, Karachi, and we also did Afghan.

My opinion...

Favela - It was nothing but close quarters & fast paced. Fun, but it was nothing but a shotgun fest. Not a good choice in my opinion.

Karachi - It was good size for 2v2, however, the respawns were very close to the HQ's, and once again it was a lot of close quarters battle. Decent map for the tourney, but not the best.

We did Afghan for the hell of it, instead of running Highrise. The outcome was what I expected. It was unanimous of the 4 of us that it was the better map of the 3 we played for this format. Even Meinbeast, who started all this controversy about Afghan, was totally reversed in his statements about the map.

One of the reasons I originally picked Afghan for the 2v2 is because I was going for a diverse map where all talents could shine. Long range, medium range, & close quarters. I took this advice from Bucker's post here...

Bucker -

What about the map? I mean, Rust is soo small, is there not a better map that lends itself toward more of "middle of the road"? All the fighting will be close quarters. I, personally would like a map that mixes in all aspects (close quarter, middle range, and long range shooting) of the game.

Meinbeast, Smitty, & Devil.. care to share your opinion??

Ramius, I must apologize. It sounds like you did no what the hell you were talking about. touche' my friend.

Favela- was just horrendous! Nothing but shotguns and claymores. It took FOREVER to win! there where so many different entry points it was ridiculous! I never used my assault rifle once! HQ spawns extremely random, but Player spawn was the same spot 8-10 times!

Karachi- was kinda the same with just a little more use of the assault rifle! but once you took a point it was too easy to hold! And the spawns where just too predictable! Once i figured out where Beast and Ramius where spawning, i just camped them. Devil and I went from 150-0 to 250-150 in the matter of 5 min. or less! The HQ spawns where very very predictable too!

Afghan- was pretty balanced! I used my shotgun/assault rifle about the same! The spawns of the HQ and the People where more random and it wasn't that hard to get to them! It was more of an even battle than the other 2!

We need to get more of you to do some test runs in some of these maps. I think based on the test runs we have already done, that Afghan should be put back on the table as a possible map. It really works out well for this format. Also, Invasion is pretty good too.

I know that Highrise & Favela got the most votes, but I really think those were votes for your favorite CTF or TDM maps. For a 2v2 HQ, they are terrible.

Remember, we are not picking our favorite maps here, we are finding the one that is the most balanced for a 2v2 Headquarters competition.
