Which of these artists did you hear of first?, :D

^^ I heard Utada first, then Koda Kumi, then Namie Amuro (I think) then BoA, then Ayumi :D :3 You? ^.^

I heard Utada first, she is who really got me into japanese music. I remember what song it was too~ Never Let Go, from her first cd. It's still one of my favorite songs by her!! :ph43r:

Utada Hikaru started it for me as well~! I first heard of her from Kingdom Hearts, singing the theme song "Hikari" / "Simple and Clean". Right after that I heard of Ayumi Hamasaki! The other artists strung along out of no where from my best friend. :)

I remember finding out about Asian music from some rotation site and it had Ayumi Hamasaki, BoA and Utada Hikaru. I would have to say that Ayu's A SONG FOR XX and BoA's SARA (English Ver.) and BoA's Amazing Kiss brought me to the Jpop scene. :uhoh:

I heard Amuro Namie's "LOVE 2000" first, then "For My Dear" by Hamasaki Ayumi. Utada came much later, and I only recently actually heard any of Koda Kumi's music, though I had known of her for a while. I heard BoA like 3 years-ish after I got into Jpop.

I heard about Koda first, that's how I got into the asian pop world. Then BoA, then Utada I think, and for Namie and Ayumi, I don't know

i heard utada first because my sister`s friend let us borrow her album, then ayumi or namie, boa, and koda kumi [but strangely she`s my favorite out of the bunch xD]

Well, I heard of Hikki years ago in some videogaming magazine of my wee brother's. She was described as "Japan's answer to Britney Spears, only not slutty" or something like that... but it wasn't actually until a this year that I actually (accidentally) came across some of her music.

I heard of BoA next through this project and if Ayumi is Ayu, then her too, but later.

As for the other two... sorry... pudding hasn't got a scooby! :uhoh:

Hamasaki Ayumi got me into Japanese music, she was so popular a few years ago that even I heard about her, and I was so engrossed in Western culture at that time xD I started searching for her songs on Kazaa (yes, kazaa!! haha oh man, memories), and that got me into J-pop. The first 2 cd's I ever owned were of her too.

But I don't listen to her anymore, heh xD

This girl in my art class back when I was a koukou ichinen had me listen to Ayu's Evolution. And I was hooked.

I was befriending a Korean exchange student at my school, and she said she was sad she couldn't bring her music with her or something, so I offered to look up a list of songs for her and burn her a CD. BoA's "Dreams Come True" was on the list (along with a song or two by Matsuura Aya, Shinhwa, Brown Eyes, SES, Arashi, and maybe a couple other artists). I fell in love with both the BoA song + the Ayaya song (DOKIDOKI Love Mail), but fell mostly in love with BoA's other works than Ayaya's, so... BoA all the way for me. <333

I learned of Hamasaki first. I was looking through some Inuyasha songs and came across Dearest. Boa's Every Heart closely followed. Then came "Come" by Namie Amuro and "Hikari" by Utada Hikaru. Lastly came "Real Emotion" by Koda Kumi. Heh, all my gateway songs are from video games or anime. I still like Ayu and BoA a lot. Utada is still pretty good ,and Namie's ealier stuff is good. I don't really like Koda Kumi though, I don't like the lyrics to her songs.

Well, I heard OF Ayumi Hamasaki first - I mean, she's like the FACE of J-Pop. EVERYONE knows who she is. XD But I actually heard a song by Koda Kumi before any of the others... And then it was Hikki, then Boa and Namie around the same time (from InuYasha, LOL. :D )

Tell that to my Japanese language learning peers...
Anyway, I learnt of HAMASAKI Ayumi first, her "Boys & Girls", but I didn't like it...through HIROSUE Ryoko (Daisuki!), then came AMURO Namie (Body Feels EXIT) and I was looked. But I really love ELT's (Every Little Thing) MOCHIDA Kaori! =)
