So, earlier this week, I picked up this game from Bioware. Playing it has been fun, they managed to make a decent combat system, the AI on both the NPC support characters and Mobs are good, in that they will move to try to flank during a fight, and generally will try to use abilities that will help the fight.

Granted you still have to tell them to use certain spells or abilities, since they have about the IQ of a dumb field mouse.

The graphics are good, and so far, I haven't seen too many bugs (surpirsing for a new game).

Story line is good, yes it's somewhat linear, but still makes you feel like you are contributing. It is graphic (blood, violance), has sexual undertones, able to romance some of your party members, but in general a good game. huh.gif

You can pretty much steer yourself to either be Good, Evil, neutral. You can end up having 4 members in your party, or just go at it alone (which I wouldn't recommend, since some fights have you going up against a 1:2 odds, with 4 people in your party).

So all in all, I give it a two thumbs up, granted I am kind partial, since Bioware made Mass effect, which I love. wub.gif

I also have been looking forward to this game. As a big fan of Bioware's Neverwinternights I and II it is a logic thing to also try this game.

I would have wanted to get is as soon as it c ame out but for some reason a certain online game took more of my time than I intended.

Though DA;O is extremely awesome. I think it needs to be said that it still is not as cool gameplay and storywise than Baldur's gate II.

Both Baldur's are probably the best RPGs made ever, together with the three Fallouts and Morrowind. So I don't expect any game to reach that level. If they do, great, but I don't usually count on it, or else I will be dissapointed.

This thread has been a reminder for me that the game was pending (and on the shelves now).

I downloa..........got the game yesterday and it clearly is exactly what I hoped for. I haven't played Baldurs Gate too much, but did play Icewind and several other oldtime RPG's. My standards might not be very high but already Ilike it an lot and have installed a new screen and console in my pod. I think I will not be piloting it (at least not too active) due to this game.

I must agree with Sepherim on the Baldur's Gate and Fallout note......... especially the fallout note, i wish they would do a post apocalyptic/fantasy melt like they tried with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcanum:_Of_S..._Magick_Obscura
which in my oppinion was the best try so far in creating a combination of "magic and technology".... too bad they didnt follow up on that genre

Arcanum steampunk looked good on paper, but the end result was pretty meek, just imho.

Also, what's so special that makes Dragon Age so much better than other standard hack and slash rpgs?

I'd say play them game and find that out by yourself.

Going into something or talking about something with a.....well somewhat 'negative' attitude towards it will most of the times not let you enjoy the game as it is.

LadyZelda looks at the present people and says: Empty your minds and open it up.

And what do you call a standard hack and slash rpg? Are Oblivion, Two Worlds, The Witcher comparable to Titan Quest and Diablo?

I have been playing it now and so far the game looks great, plays great and the story at this point seems fine to me.

As partial as I might be I say they did a good job on this one already.

Dragon Age is simply really Solid,There is alot fo good dialouge and interesting choices that must be made, it moves away from the black and white of good and evil in this game, and it shows up alot.

Since we're on the subject, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic I and II was awesome also. Will i get the MMO?... I"ll likely try it, but EVE sets the bar damn high.

I have not played those as I tend to like games 'before gunpowder invention'. So as soon as guns, lasers or anything come in I tend to 'skip' the games.

Maybe I should try those as well.

Hitome stares at the strange words she is reading.... wondering what on EVE has happened. Almost no one was on yesterday. Could it be other things were pulling her brothers away?

I have only heard of Oblivion. My son loves that one. The rest are totally foreign.

I say ban it all and come back to EVE.... sad.gif

LAdyZ, if you try and shooty gun game, try Mass Effect - if you like RPGs, it's an easy way to ease yourself into a shooty game, since it is a truly epic RPG. It's alot like Eve in it's world, really.
