I just got off from FEAR multiplayer beta, and oh how damn fine it is. It is damn fine indeed!

Bear in mind this will be brief, I haven't really got the inclination to write paragraphs about stuff, although I could. The gameplay feels solid, the guns are meaty, and the graphics are uber. There are a lot of cool effects, especially the slowing down bullet time effect, complete with Matrix-style bullet trails and slowed down sound effects. It's also damned atmospheric too. Combat had me on edge when it was being played properly, using tactics instead of basic run'n'gun action. There are a lot of room for tactics in this game too. With close combat moves such as flying kicks, punches, stomps you can get personal with people too.

The only downsides I had with this beta was that some parts of the levels were rather empty. Although this is in beta stage and quite forgiveable as the rest of the game is so cool, I'm sure it has been filled with more crap than they know what to do with. I did have something else that bugged me, but I can't think of it.

Anyway, my overall verdict is being: a whopping 9/10! Gameplay, sound, graphics, and stuff are bang on. The only improvements need to be more stuff in some of the maps to make them look more populated, because some parts look plain. I'll get some screenshots up of it soon for you guys.

I want this game. I have to play this game. The videos scared me, and the gameplay looked awesome :D except from that dude who was playing didn't have a friggin clue :P

From the videos alone, i'd rate FEAR 8/10. But, I need to play it first :D

I've just come from my first Slow-Mo FEAR Deathmatch session, and it's awesome stuff. There's the slow mo control placed on the map for anyone to take. Once you have it, you have control over the slow mo, but you have to wait for it to charge up. Once it's charged up, it's up to you when you use it, plunging the entire map into slow motion matrix goodness. To balance it all out, a big marker appears above you letting everyone know that you've got the controller :D

One particularly adrenalin fueled moment I had (there were plenty to speak of) was me and my team were holed down in a corner, and I was behind the desk, attracting enemy fire. Two of our guys came round the corner and threw grenades, dissipating the enemy force. Then our main man who had the time controller activated it as we ran in, with the enemy team all around the top balcony, surrounding us. It was a real 'RAAARGH!' moment as we charged through the room in a pack trying to defend ourselves while rubble, smoke and sparks filled the room. Awesome stuff.

Another was when I was seperated from the team. I was following the markers trying to get back to them, and I had the time control. I came into an office and there were two enemy teammates sweeping the room. One saw me and opened fire, so I activated the control and dodged to the right, while the two branched off in different directions to flank me. I waited, and then dodged out firing at the right hand one, who wasn't expecting me to come out so soon. I launched myself into the air, and brought a roundhouse kick to the face, killing him instantly. By this time, the other guy had started to retreat, so I moved around the cubicles and waited on a desk for him to appear. He did, and I launched myself off the desk, booted him in the back and brought him down.
Then the slow mo ended, and his other two team mates came and kick the crap outta me.

And the last big adrenalin moment was when I was pinned down by four guys behind the aforementioned desk. I pulled back down the corridor to my right and heard them advancing, so I dropped a remote charge. They came around the corner and I exploded them in a shower -literally- of body parts. Then another three came round the corner and I was properly pinned down by their fire. Then out of nowhere, one of my team buddies flew down the end of the corridor in mid air, and clouted one of the enemy with his boot. Just as the other one was turning round to see what happened, my team mate jumped up off the desk behind him and planted his boot on the side of his head. It was so damn cool, I wish I'd recorded it.
It's those type of moments that make you feel proud to be a gamer :D
