My review of Amped 3 for the Xbox 360.

When I had first heard of this game, I thought it would be the run-of-the-mill "X-TREME" sports game full of stereotypical "punks". When I got my Xbox 360 Amped 3 was one of the only games availiable, so I figured, "Why the hell not". I then found out it was more than an "Xtreme" sports game.

The pros: Outrageous story, one of the only games I actually laughed out loud at, fun gameplay, many different mountains, completly free-roaming, can use a snomobile and sled at any time.

The cons: Relatively short, controls take a little getting used to, load times are long, no multiplayer.

First, let's start with the best aspect. The story. This is probably one of the most humorous games I have ever played, even funnier than Conker's Bad Fur Day. Most of the cutscenes are completly outrageous, many of them are cheesy that look like they were made in flash, but it's this corniness that makes the game funny. There was no possible way to predict what type of cutscene would come up next. Whether it's a russian game show, sock puppets (that somehow manage to use sock puppets), anime, scrapbook style, or frame-by-frame animations done with toys, I was laughing through pretty much the whole game. They also spoof classic games, like Super Mario, Frankenstine, Megaman, and Final Fantasy VII.

The controls took a little getting used to, but once you get past that, the game is good. Instead of grinding down your analog sticks like SSX and Tony Hawk, you score many more points by gently holding the left analog stick and scoring "style" points.

The gameplay differed from other skate/snowboard games. Instead of being locked on a specific run, you can freely roam about the whole mountain with your snowboard, snomobile, or sled. There are also missions you can do to earn money, respect points, or mandatory story missions. One of my favourite missions is the Sled Trauma Challenge, where you have to hurt yourself as much as possible on a specific sled. Doing these missions can earn you new sleds.

Overall score: 8.4/10
