The Farming Guide has been updated and a few things changed. Several new crops have been added! Everyone who owns a farm must check it out!
February 1, 2012:
We have a new staff member! Alison Summers is now part of the OoS staff. Also, three topics in the guidebook have been revised and re-posted. Very little has changed, but please check up on them to make sure you're up to date!

Emerald Beach
Clear, greenish-blue water. Sparkling white sand. Waves that are generally quite calm but on windy days are great for playing and even surfing. This is Emerald Beach, a public beach that is open year-round, although Summer is the busiest season. One who walks along the shore can find a variety of seashells, clams, and coral year-round. Fishing too is allowed, and there have been reports of people occasionally catching great treasures along with rare fish.

Chalcedony Docks
There is nigh on constant movement here, what with a ferry arriving on the hour and departing at the half hour mark. These ferry rides to the Mainland begin at five in the morning and end at eleven in the evening. Otherwise, the tall and sturdy wooden docks are otherwise occupied by fishermen, taking full advantage of the bounty of the sea.

Sunstone Beachway
This is a small, quiet housing area not far from Emerald beach. It's a great place for those who enjoy the scenes and sounds of the ocean. While it's a ways from the hustle and bustle of Obsidian Village, it's still within easy walking distance of the shopping district. The island's library is located in this quiet neighborhood. This area was heavily damaged in Year 09's hurricane, but many residents were quickly able to rebuild!

Tourmaline Acres
Given the proximity of this area to the beach, salty air permeates all of the farms. Water surrounds the farms, given how they overlook Tourmaline Bay. However, given how much of the grass is sometimes replaced with large patches of sand, the soil here is not very fertile, and trees can be difficult to grow. The majority of the soil is in fact DQ, but with a lot of work and some handy fertilizer the farms here can be as rich and magnificent as any other.

Carnelian Cave
A steady stream of water from the Ruby Waterfall blocks the entrance to this cave. Many rare gemstones can be found inside for those who dare to creep behind the waterfall, but most people venture inside for a casual look. Ruby Waterfall
A beautiful waterfall with sparkling water that flows down a ledge and pools at the bottom to create a magnificent pond. If you make an offering in to the pond, then something may happen. Then again, maybe not. Who knows? All in all, this is a wonderful place to spend a day out in the peace and quiet, or to even have a outdoor lunch with some close friends.

Agate Acres
Heavy clusters of shade trees frame most of the picturesque farms in this area. Ruby Waterfall and the stream that connects into it provide ample water for the soil. Most of the farms here have good-quality soil and very large oak trees grow around the fields. This is a good place to grow strong, healthy fruit trees.

Island's Split
A long, wide inlet of water horizontally separates the island completely in two halves. This is a result of the Year 06 earthquake. One can see a steady flow of ocean water run throughout this crevasse-like gap, which is located just north of the village of Obsidian. As of Summer 25th (Year 06) a bridge has been built so that people can get from one side of the island to the other!

Streets of Obsidian
There is a great deal of activity at all times here with people walking to and from their homes to the school, the park, the clinic, or even to the Mayor's estate that overlooks it all in pristine condition. In the busier areas, benches can be found lining the cobblestone streets, though the alleyways and dirt paths in other areas have a bit less attention paid to them. In fact, as one reaches the outskirts of town, the fine cobblestones give way more often than not to paths overgrown with grass, if not dirt and sand.

Pyrite Circle
The busiest part of Obsidian has been and always will be the marketplace since it is the center of trade. Wares from all over the village are brought here and sold. So many unusual items can be found and a great deal of shops can be found in circle, hence the name Pyrite Circle, for villagers to investigate. A luxurious fountain depicting the Goddess can be seen in the center, which is said to bring good luck if a coin is offered.

Turquoise Avenue
A short distance away from the main girth of Obsidian rests the residential area where the villagers have come to live. Most of the houses are small and modest, but occasionally a larger scale model from higher society can be noticed. This is a lively place and usually filled with rowdy children worrying their mothers while relaxing fathers observe, but there is a certain peace that makes it so appealing.

Unmei's Gardens
A flourishing and peaceful land filled with beautiful blooming flowers in all seasons has mysteriously sprung forth within the village. The area has a light and serene feel to it. It is said that the Goddess has personally created these gardens as a form of "heaven" for all of Obsidian to enjoy. Once every three years a path seemingly materializes out of nowhere, leading to a secluded part of the beach. And once every three years, on this special day, a festival is held.

Forest of Quartz
A peaceful forest where friendly wild animals play with humans that pass through on their way to Obsidian. What makes this place so remarkable is that a few of the trees are actually crystal and have purple or red leaves. It is a beautiful sight to behold, but be careful to not destroy any, lest you anger the Harvest Goddess.

Sapphire Glade
Though there are few trees here, the fact that this area is completely filled with Spring flowers throughout every season means that there is a constant fragrant and fresh aroma in the air. Rumors say that this glade was blessed by the magic of the Goddess long ago, for how else could this area avoid the heat of Summer, the change of Fall, or the snow of Winter? In harmony with the sun setting every evening, fireflies take to the sky and illuminate the entire glade to add a touch of romance to the air.

Amethyst Acres
The farms in this area vary significantly, for they are in the center of three vastly different wildernesses. Most farms are near both Sapphire Glade and the Forest of Quartz, and the soil there is perfect for growing crops. However, the soil near Hematite Woods is said to be cursed, and therefore is of lower quality. For some reason, mushrooms of all types seem to grow very well in that region.

Path of Opal
Taking it step by step, the Path of Opal is the only way to reach the top of the Lazuli Hill. It isn't a very large hill, but it is still a decent walk that will take some effort to finish. Flowers and herbs can be found growing around while friendly creatures come and go as they please. This is a peaceful place, one without fear, and a wonderful spot to sit under the shade of a cedar tree and relax.

Feldspar Summit
"Moonstone Reach," more commonly known as Feldspar Summit, is the place that is closest to the sky. It offers a wonderful view and often the place that many come with their families or that special someone on a private night. Shooting stars can often be spotted and the moon always seems to be so much brighter from this particular place.

Lazuli Acres
Possibly the most eclectic of the farming areas, Lazuli Acres has plots that range from missing all trees to being full of them. However, there is a very bizarre sense of isolation in these farms, especially due to the fact that the great Lazuli Hill blocks the view of the village. Loner farmers of all sorts would more than likely be happiest here.

Town Outskirts
Outside the tall buildings and the bustling activity of the city, there lies as many activities different from those inside the urban hub. They can be found amongst several stretches fields and hills, along with a few houses and small communities. Buses travel back and forth along the roads out of the city, a convenient way to the unique places that are there to discover and enjoy.

Percheron Estates
A quiet neighbourhood located a short distance from the hustle and bustle of the shopping and business district of town. Though the word "estates" is in the neighbourhood's name, there are very few large houses here. Most of the homes are modest, and a few fixer-uppers can be found here and there.

Thomson University
Thomson University, founded in the Fall of 08, is Abyssinian finest (and only) place to receive a higher education! The campus grounds are lush and well-maintained with cobblestone walkways and stone walls. There are three buildings in all, the school itself and then the student and teacher housing, each built to imitate medieval architecture. Included on campus are sport fields and stables for equestrian studies.
