Tick... Tick... Tick... Tick... Fwip... Tick... Tick... Tick...

The ticking of the hanging clock and the occasional turning of a page were the only sounds that filled Apartment eighty two, and quite frankly, that was a very scary thing. Things were a little too quiet. Kuro stared at the pages of his book through the lenses of his reading glasses, not really paying attention to the words printed on the page. He was too busy trying to listen for any sounds that would indicate the presence of his little sister. Normally she would be cavorting around, sticking her nose into every nook and cranny of the place, being her usual nosy self, but he hadn't seen eye or end of her for a while now, and he was starting to worry. What on earth had her so quiet?

Click. Sqeeeeeeeeeeeeeak.....

Hikari's bedroom door slowly opened. Kuro looked up over his reading glasses at the door, and saw a little head of orange hair poking out. His little sister was staring straight at him, a frightened look on her face. Immediately, Kuro's protective big brother instincts kicked in. He took off his glasses, closed his book, and set it down on the chair as he got up.

He walked over to the door and opened it a bit more. She looked up at him, the frightened expression still on her face. Now he was really worried. Kuro looked down at her, and spoke and signed at the same time, ”What's wrong, Kari?”

Hikari stared up at her big brother, still looking a little frightened, and even a bit confused. What could have happened?

Suddenly, Kuro was yanked into Hikari's room, the door shutting behind him. Hikari looked her older brother square in the eye, and signed, ”.... Something's wrong with me, Nii-chan.”

”What do you mean? What's wrong?” He signed and asked back, looking worried.

”Most people don't normally get blood in their undies do they?”

Kuro froze, freaking out on the inside. She started all ready? But girls weren't supposed to start... that until they were seventeen, right? Hikari was only eleven! He knew it was going to happen eventually, but... Not now! How on earth was he going to explain this? Why did Lanie have to leave earlier? He didn't know where she kept her.... lady items.. Just thinking the words sent a chill down his spine. He didn't want to think about that kind of stuff. It was gross! But it wasn't like he really had a choice at the moment.

Where do girls keep that kind of stuff anyway? Hopefully in the bathroom... But he didn't know what to do with it! And was he supposed to explain it to her first, or get the lady stuff? ... Or do both at the same time? He didn't know what the hell he was doing...

”Uh...Well, actually... It happens to girls... It's part of growing up....” he started, feeling more and more awkward with each word. ”Uh... Okay.... uhm... You see... Girls.... When they... When they start to get older... they... they lay a really tiny egg.... And uh.... If.... If there's not a baby in the... in the egg.... then..... you uh.... it comes out... “down there” and uh.... that... happens.... Yeah...” And if it wasn't awkward enough explaining it, now he had to go and raid the bathroom to try and find some... yeah....

Hikari stared at him a moment, trying to make sense of what he just failed at explaining, and signed, ”..... So I'm a chicken?”

”No! You're not a chicken... But, yeah..... Like a chicken I guess.... I don't know... But... I need you to-” he said, stopping when he heard a door slam. Laney was home! OH THANK YOU GODDESS!!! he thought, relief washing over him. He was saved from more awkwardness and embarassment.
