Okay... let's start working

Calyn used her new (and paid for) hammer to clear away that big rock at the top of her field. It took a while but eventually she was victorious! Next were the branches, but, until she had the money to buy an ax they'll just have to be moved aside for now. Maybe she'll buy one once these onions grew. It was kinda strange for her, to be growing vegetables since her diet called for her to avoid eating any plants. She wondered what it would be like, tending to the crops as she used her new hoe to till three spaces of land.

With the seeds planted and water she plopped down in dirt , examining her dirty hands. This was.... really new for her. Stranger still she'll be making legitimate money! Now that is a really new concept.

What happened?

Calyn Bren returned to her farm only to find... all her onions dead; all of them hardly more than withered sprouts. But how? This was her first time returning to her field since planting the seeds, so any amount of things could have happened during that time period. The whole concept of "watering crops everyday" was still unknown to her.
Though, in her mind, the crops would have grown just like any other plant in nature.

However, what upset her the most was what a huge waste of money this was. That money could have feed her for a week and now it was gone! Wasted on withered plants. She killed plants. Plants! The bearers of life. What would Brother think if he could see her? Maybe he did.... from where he was in the after life.

Calyn sighed and decided she might as well finish weeding her field and clearing up the rest of the rocks. At least that way she was somewhat productive.

I hope this work... I spent 2000G on these stupid seeds!

After acquiring funds (through mostly legal means) for the seeds, Calyn prepared to try this farming thing again. This time, however, she'll try planting trees. It would take a miracle for her to kill a tree right? They grow all over the island, and this time she'll keep a careful eye on their growth, just to be sure.

Since her last visit two days ago a few weeds had sprouted up in her field and they were pulled from the ground without mercy and tossed into the grass. Where they mixed with the brown remains of weeds pulled days ago. Now, with the field cleared Calyn took her hoe and tilled the ground in six spots, evenly spaced apart for her trees. Once finished she threw the hoe into the grass and pulled out the apple seeds from her bag and began planting.

Dirt covered her hands like brown gloves by the time she finished burring the last seed under the soft dirt. A few quick wipes on the ground and most of the dirt was gone and she grabbed her watering can to water the trees. With that done Calyn stepped back to stand at the edge of the field and examine her work. Farming, yep.

More trees

Calyn Bren moved the remaining branches off the field and used her hoe to till tree spaces for the new apple seeds she bought. The extra bag of seed was sitting the barn for whenever she decided to expand her field. When the seeds were planted she watered each one and sat down under the now fully grown trees she planted near the beginning of summer. Small green apples weighed the branches down, only a few more days until they turn bright red.

I'm ready to do this

Today, she decided she could put off her work no longer. Really, the apples were ready to be picked yesterday but yesterday she wasn't feeling well. And yesterday she was with the kid, which had helped her out immensely. It got her focused again, and back on track. So today felt like her first day actually farming. The failed crops before didn't count because she didn't take care of them and they died. But now, with six healthy apple trees and a bunch of apples on each, it now felt like farming.

She had anticipated the need for baskets and made sure to steal some from town and other farmers a few days prior. No one would miss a basket or two and her sign kept people off the farm. For the most part that is. That one girl, Lily, ignored it and pranced all over the place. Well, with the dogs around, hopefully everyone else will think twice about poking around on her farm.

A basket in hand Calyn approached the closest tree. The trees still weren't that tall yet so for some of the apples all she had to do was reach up, pick and throw into the basket. The ticker ones were higher up so she climbed up, nestled the basket between a fork in the branches and picked and picked and picked. Two trees worth of apples filled one basket and when the basket was filled she took it over to the shipping bin, tossed them in and went back.

It wasn't hard work, in comparison to the other work she's done it was hardly a challenge physically, but it was long work. Picking, setting up the basket, moving between trees. A little over half an hour later she had all the apples picked and put away in the shipping bin.

Now, time to go check on her sheep.

Winter is coming....

It was the last week of Fall. The apple trees were a surprising success. Calyn Bren has never had so much money before and she was at a loss of what to do with it or even where to put it. Sure, the bank occurred to her but it was never seriously considered. Due do her thieving tendencies she tried to avoid town as much as possible. Wouldn't want to get caught after all this time spent on the island.

But, her biggest worry was Winter. It was approaching fast. She didn't worry about getting warmer clothes, she had a high tolerance for the cold already and she planned on spending the winter inside the barn. Maybe she should get that cow she was thinking about. It'd be good to have some milk to get by on incase she needed it. Though, she planned on saving up enough jerky and hard biscuits to last her the season. Maybe she could smoke some fish as well.

There was a lot to do.
