I'm going out on a limb here, and please delete this, dear Admin (or tell me to and I will) if I am going out of a boundary of my limitations as a mod.

Wow, that was so formal.

Okay, since this seems to, from the way I see it, be a forum for serious, possibly intense discussions, I will start this with the intent of keeping serious discussion here -- no spam. I know we all go off track from time to time, but that needs to be done in another forum, like No Topic Zone. It's a far less formal place.

So, now, I ask that this forum's rules -- as well as Night Wish's board rules as a whole -- be followed. Respect others opinions is my biggest thing, because I am someone who is only closed-minded to those who have a closed-mind. So no flaming. You don't have to like it, just don't voice that you don't.

Anyway, enough dilly-dallying. On to our FIRST debate!

The first topic I chose (again, going out on a limb) is something that's been a hot topic for years here in the US. I realize there are other nationalities on this board, so it may not be as big of a thing elsewhere in the world.

Sexuality. Namely, homosexuality. A huge cause of controversy. If the idea of it offends you, this topic is probably not something you need to read. I, myself, see no issue in it. A person is born the way they are, and no one as a right to change them as the US government has done by basically outlawing it in 48 of 50 states by banning gay marriage. I know of people who believe that a person is not born homo- or bisexual, and that they can be converted into being "straight." That it's their upbringing, or the people they're around at school or social events.

I have several friends who are gay, and I, personally, am bi. I know that may bias my opinion on the matter, but my point is that I know from personal experience it does not involve your upbringing or friends. I was raised in a devout Christian home with strict parents and friends that were nothing of the way they act now (as some of my friends I had when I was younger I am still close to). But I've always been the way I am. Call me a rebel, I suppose, for now I go against a lot of how I was raised, but that isn't what's being discussed.

So, a question to help start the posting of an opinion: Are people born this way, as homosexuals, or is it to blame on the things they're exposed to as they pass through adolesence?

Again, Steph, if I wasn't supposed to start this, just delete it. blink.gif
