Information on murder mystery RPs
A murder mystery RP isn't much different than any other RP. However, there is the issue of choosing a murderer, and how it's done varies from game to game. The way I've always done it is through the use of PMs -- randomly choosing one person to be the murderer and sending them a PM with the necessary information. The same goes for plot twists. It's really up to individual players to decide how things are done, though, and sometimes using a different method will better fit the story.

Our Standard
Mysteries to Die For has a posting standard, and if your post does not meet the standard, you will be asked to modify it. If not modified the post could face deletion. As harsh as that sounds, this is an advanced roleplaying forum for skilled roleplayers. My belief is that each RP should feel like an interactive mystery novel, so think of that when creating a new RP. The following is a short guideline to creating an acceptable RP that is up to standard.

--CONSIDER PLOT AND CHARACTERS-- When creating an RP, think about a possible story and what impact participants could have on it. Creating a plot ahead of time is encouraged, but much of the time it's more fun to simply let the participants create the story as things progress. The decision is up to you.

--POST RULES-- Please post any rules or necessary information when creating an RP. Possible things to include are what characters are available, whether or not the RP has a plot, how the murderer or murderers will be chosen, and any information not included in the first post about the setting, background, story, etc.

--USE CORRECT SPELLING AND GRAMMAR-- Probably the most important rule. An excellent post can be ruined by incorrect spelling and grammar. I recommend copying and pasting your post into Microsoft Word (or it's equivalent) and running spell check before posting.

--WRITE CAREFULLY-- Choose your words well. Think about what you write -- is there a better way to say something? Is there a more appropriate word you can use? Can you vary sentence structure? I really cannot stress enough -- think about what you write.

Of course, I'm really very loose about things, and chances are you'll never be asked to edit anything. I hope you've taken the time to read this, and if you have any suggestions or comments feel free to reply or send me a PM. Thanks, and happy mystery-solving!
