So, the title says it all, there's been an undeniable feud/rivalry between Korea and Japan for a very long time now. I would also like to mention before I make my points, whenever I mention Korea, I mean South Korea, not North Korea or Korea as a whole. ~ Japan has always thought themselves to be better, to be one step ahead of Korea in everything from sports to music (no offence meant at all to any one Japanese) and they've always thought that Korea was in their shadows, never a threat to become stronger than them. Well, recently I've noticed, although Korea has greatly improved over the years, Korea is starting to stop being overshadowed by Japan, in a big way! Korea is starting to become a lot stronger in a lot of fields, their music industry is having a great impact on Japan, they're getting so much better at sports(take the olympics, Korea has done great in the olympics), and I think Japan sees them as serious rivals now.
It also goes the other way, Korea sees Japan as a threat too, so rises the rivalry that has been going on between the two asian countries for many years now.
Want an example of this, so-called rivalry I'm pointing out? Well, take the World Baseball Classics. Japan has always been ahead of Korea in this particular sport, but as a great upset to Japan, Korea beat them for the top spot and entered th WBC as the #1 team in Asia at the moment. And I guess Japan wasn't going to stand for that, on account of what one of Japan's players, Ichiro, had said about the Korean team. I will not say what Ichiro had said though because I'm only 98% sure that I have it clear, and I don't want to mix up the facts, all I am sure of is that it was all over the korean news and it was rude and insulting to Korea's team and Korea. Well, It seems like Ichiro(whatever he had said about beating the Koreans) was wrong. Again, Korea had to play the Japanese in the Classics, and will play them again in the semis tonight, Saturday, March 18th(I know I'll be watching) The first time they played each other again in the WBC Japan lost once again, leaving them at a loss for words, no longer able to say that Korea won by chance the first time, or that it was just an off day, in that game Korea proved that they won due to their skill, not luck. Plus, Korea remains the only undefeated tem in the WBC, which reportedly Japan was not happy about. After the game Nishioka said,''I think we are as good as they are, but we lost. We just have to ''face'' that Korea ''is'' a good team''. Weather you see that as bitterness is up to you. (See, I've done my reasearch before posting )
Discuss: Do you believe that there is a rivalry between South Korea and Japan? Why or why not? Other than that feel free to express your own opinions on this topic, but please keep it polite, I know that there are both Japanese and Koreans on Gaia.
Also, I am not trying to sway you to any particular side, I am Korean/Chinese/Japanese and I mean for none of this to be taken offensively by anyone.
I'd love to hear your opinions, thank you!
