Little 'Kingaroo' to leave pouch

DENMARK'S Crown Prince Christian is only one year old, but he'll reportedly soon start attending nursery school.

Locals in the small village near where Princess Mary and husband Prince Frederik live are abuzz at reports in several Danish magazines that their children may soon be sharing lessons with a future king.

Pregnant Princess Mary, due to give birth to her second child in May, is believed to have chosen a local state-run nursery school for her son.

The royal couple have said since Prince Christian's birth in October 2005 that they intend to give him an ordinary childhood.

Prince Christian to start kindergarden on March 27 2007

Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and the Crown Princess have decided that Prince Christian will start in day nursery: Dronning Louise's Børnehus, Stenbækgårdsvej 202 in Fredensborg.

Prince Christians first day in kindergarten is 27. march 2007, and the medias are invited to take pictures, when the Crown Prince Couple arrives together with Prince Christian at 10 am.

As a service we expect that the media will respect the privacy of Prince Christian and the other children and their families when they are stayed at the Day Care and the neigbourgring grounds.

Denmark's little prince arrives for his first day at nursery school

Despite the fact that it was his first day at nursery school there was no sign of nerves from poised little Prince Christian of Denmark - even though he was greeted by a group of snappers eager to capture the moment.

But then the 17-month-old toddler, who was dressed smartly for his big day in a blue shirt and a navy duffle coat, was getting plenty of reassuring hugs from his proud parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary as he arrived at Queen Louise's Nursery School on Tuesday morning.

The royal couple, who chose the non-private school near their Fredensborg Castle home just north of Copenhagen, have made it clear they want their son to enjoy an ordinary childhood. That means no nannies and an as hands-on as possible approach.

Christian, who held on tightly to his parents' hands as they walked him towards the school entrance, will soon be joined by a little brother or sister as Crown Princess Mary is expecting her second child in May.

The prince and the playschool

The future king of Denmark met his subjects yesterday - as playmates at the local nursery school

Prince Christian, second in line to the Danish throne, took his first wobbly steps as a man of the people Tuesday as his parents dropped him off for his first day of nursery school.

In addition to the friendly teachers at the Queen Louise Child Centre a host of national and international reporters were on hand to watch as Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary dropped off the 18-month-old prince at the local public nursery school.

Though attending a school named after one of his ancestors and being assigned a bodyguard may mean that Christian will never have quite the same experience as his playmates, his parents have emphasised that they intend to give their first born son as normal an upbringing as possible. But as he handed over his son, Christian's dad confirmed that might not be so easy - for either of them.

'He doesn't know what's in store for him. But then again maybe it's we, his parents, that need to prepare ourselves. The more prepared we are as parents, the easier he has it.'

Prince Christian's parents are expecting their second child in May so the timing, according to the Crown Princess, was practical, though she added she felt Christian was ready to get out and meet 'other children his own age'.

Despite the royal pedigree, school headmaster Helle Zacho said Prince Christian had not skipped over anyone else on the waiting list - nor would there be any special treatment for their new charge.

'This is like being entrusted with any other child - except for the fact that we've had to add the word 'security' to our vocabulary.'

Princess Mary's son starts daycare

The 18-month-old son of Australian-born Princess Mary and her husband Prince Frederik has been enrolled in a municipal daycare, in a first for the Danish royal family.

Prince Christian is second in line to the throne and is the first future regent to attend daycare.

At the same age, Crown Prince Frederik had a nanny at the palace.

The toddler arrived today at a daycare centre north of Copenhagen, accompanied by his parents as well as dozens of photographers.

Mary Donaldson, who is expecting the couple's second child, married Prince Frederik in May 2004 after the couple met in Sydney.
