X was founded in 1982 while vocalist Toshi and drummer Yoshiki were attending high school together. They began by performing at clubs and was really popular among youngsters. hide, Taiji and Pata joined later.
They couldn't find a record company, 'cause it was a risk to sign heavy metal bands(Demo tape - I'll Kill You). But with the help of Yoshiki's mother, who sold the family business to get money, Yoshiki started his own record company - Extasy Records and X released their first album - Vanishing Vision.
The band later participated in an audition by CBS Sony which would lead to a contract with the label. X was later changed to X Japan to avoid confusion between another punk band from US.
At 1997, Toshi quitted the band.

Things was all quiet until 2007, Yoshiki had announced a reunion. Now they are ready for a World Tour.
