Guitarist Janick Gers of British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN revealed to BBC News that the band has already started writing songs for its 15th studio album. "We're going to Paris for three weeks to work on some new stuff," Gers said at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards 2009 on November 2 at the Park Lane Hotel in London, England. "The most important thing for a band is to create new music, otherwise you're not valid — you become a parody."

From Smallwood.

"I'm starting to get my head round what we're going to do next summer. It hasn't been decided yet but we'll do something, so I've got to speak to promoters and agents.

"Now we know the plane works, by Christmas we'll have the pattern set. We'll probably be going for the plane and getting that held for us.

"But at the moment, the album's the key thing on the agenda. The guys will be getting together shortly and they're probably starting to get their heads round new ideas for songs individually. Some of them may meet up before we formally get together.

"We'll spend a period writing, we'll take Christmas off and then we'll get into recording. We'll finish the album in time for it to be out next year and I'm just getting my head round what we want to do touring-wise.

"We'll be doing some new places on the next tour. I won't tell you where they are - they're not finalized yet, but some work has been done. One place we can't play that we'd like to is Bolivia — the altitude is just too high for the type of physical performance the guys do. It's a shame."

Cant wait to hear some new material soon! this is some good news here!! :rockdevil :rockdevil

They have probably come up with a lot of different riffs , melodies and themes already, maybe even complete songs. And I have a feeling that songs will get altered in the studio still.

C'mon! This is old and out this Janick bashing!

Who's been ruining certain songs on the last 4 albums is Steve Harris (unintentionaly leaving the fault on Janick's, even Dave's and Kevin Shirley's back). Janick is the most prolific songwriter in Maiden since The X Factor, including on performance, alongside Bruce & Nicko.

Paschendale alone kills your point. Not to mention tons of other songs from Adrian, or Dave and Steve that is far better then Jan's one's. Performance wide, Adrian has been evolving as a guitarrist album after album, and, as always, still the best guitar player ever to play in this band. Live, I'd reather hear a song well executed then to see a guitarrist running, dancing and pracing & leaving his actual job, which is to play the guitar, as a second thought.

How long you're into Maiden?! 2 hours ago?! C'mon! 20 bloody freakin' years and you're still whining about Janick throwing shapes! Fuck off! Seriously!

I think Lord Of The Flies, Ghost Of The Navigator, Dream Of Mirrors, Out Of The Silent Planet, Dance Of Death, Be Quick Or Be Dead are up there alongside and some even surpassing Paschendale.

Stop this Janick bashing and concentrate on those news.

It's great that they start working on something new. And I'll wait to hear how it sounds to criticize, I won't bash the guys before. It would be too easy.

Considering basically ALL Maiden albums have been written in 6 weeks I don't know why this surprises you. Unless of course you've already made your mind up about an album that doesn't exist yet, which it appears you have.

So...according to you, if something in not that good but is there for a long time, it's ok to have it? Let's put an 7'' footer NBA player banging your ass, guess U'll hate (or will you?) and leave him banging for ''20 bloody freakin' years''...I guess you'll begin to think it's ok to, or enjoyable.

And I didn't ''bash'' Janick at the first place, go read it, someone else did it. I just wrote a counter point of view from your, when actually, I shouldn't, cause there in no point, cause Adrian rules in Iron Maiden, as a guitarrist and as a songwriter, that's a non argueable FACT! You fuck off.
