So, last night, I had the immense pleasure of attending a performance of Frank's kooky little live show in Hollywood. For those that don't know, the show (produced by Frank and cartoon historian Jerry Beck) is a parody of all those obnoxious kid's shows we were all subjected to in elementary school. Peppered throughout the performance are screenings of some of the worst, most bizarre (and in same cases disturbing) cartoons ever produced. Frank plays Moodsy, the Clinically Depressed Owl. Think of all those shorts from the earlier MST years -- Here Comes the Circus, Johnny at the Fair, etc. -- and you'll get an idea of the flavor of this show. Deliciously dark humor! The show was HILARIOUS. I had such a blast! Apparently they put it on once every month, and I do hope to get out there for the next one in October. I highly recommend it to any L.A.-area MSTies out there (or, heck, to any non-MSTies too!).
Anyway, the cherry on the sundae of last night's show was an appearance by JOEL!!! He was the voice and handler of Dumpster Diver Dan, a cheeky little garbage dweller in a similar vein to Joey the Lemur (LOL). At the end of the show, the whole cast came out to participate in the show-stopping number, a peppy ode to dry-heaving!
After the show, we hung out in the lobby, and after a few minutes, Joel and Frank emerged to mingle! Though I was terrified, I did go over and shake their hands and get my pic taken with them. They were very gracious. A real dream come true for this longtime MSTie!
THANKS GUYS!!!
That is awesome. Thanks for sharing the story. Are their any pics you can post?
Man, I wish I was there. Joel and Frank together again. Now if they can get Trace to join in too... :Iluvu:
The pics I took were on a regular film camera, so I have to use up the rest of the roll before I can see my pics of Joel and Frank. Once I do get them (and assuming they came out okay), I'm going to post them to my MySpace page, and I'll definitely link them here!
As for Trace, I'd heard some whispers that he attends the shows, and there was a guy in the audience when I was there who resembled him, but alas, no dice. Maybe he'll be at the next show (*fingers crossed!*).
Yeah, it was pretty crazy meeting these guys, especially since I've been an avid MSTie since I was 12 (27 currently). Shaking Joel Hodgson's hand was just....surreal. And when I told Frank I was following his Pinkberry blogs on MySpace, he laughed heartily. *I* made Frank laugh!!!!!!! Well, I guess it was about time I returned the favor. :D
Hope Joel comes back next month!
