Childhoodstories I, Scarlet, Violet and Sterling

[Neo]

"I think you said something wrong, Vi..." Scarlet said staring at the door.
She looked at her sister who seemed displeased but smirked at the same time. It wasn't good when Violet made a face like that. It meant she would try to squeeze out whatever Sterling was refusing to tell them by force.
"Maybe you should wait until... we got used to each other before you ask him personal questions."

While talking Scarlet put on her nightgown and sat on her bed. "Say Vi, have you ever seen Sterling-kun around. He does not live in the castle, does he?"

"Hmmm, I think he is a newcomer. Come on, Sasa, I'm just trying to be friendly with him. Father said that he'll be our friend right?"

Violet put on her own light purple nightgown. "Maybe I should ask him again tomorrow..."

[Neo]

"Newcomer? But Sir Darphin and father seemed to know him for some time... And...uhm... The way you say "friend" sounds like some sort of toy."

On the next morning Scarlet woke up earlier than Violet and decided to take a little walk. She got dressed as quietly as possible and went outside. She got a small shock seeing Sterling standing in front of their door already. Did he spend the night out there? It was so early in the morning....

"Uhm, good morning... Sterling-san..." Scarlet said.

[Reika]

It was still dark outside when Sterling got out of bed. Another day of duty awaited him. Actually, he had the duty to take care of the two princess everyday now. Changing into his daytime clothings, Sterling made his way from his room and to the room of the princess. He should be there when they were awake.

Approaching their room, Sterling took notice that they were probably not awake yet. It was still very early anyway. Sterling leaned against the wall and yawned. He went off to a bad start yesterday with the twins, mostly with the one named Violet. There was something about her and the way she looked at him. The other one seemed more okay though.

Sterling didn't know how long had past, but the sun was already staring to rise. Suddenly the door next to him opened and out popped Scarlet.

"Uhm, good morning... Sterling-san..." she said.

"Morning princess," he replied, taking a glance at her. He then waited a few seconds longer before speaking again. "Your sister isn't awake yet?" he asked when Violet didn't come out with her.

Scarlet took a look over her shoulder into the room. "No, it seems she's still asleep." she said closing the door behind her.
She stared at Sterling for a moment. In the light of the rising sun he seemed less creepy than the night before, even kind of cute. In fact it was only now that Scarlet could see him more or less properly since he had lingered in the shadows for most of the time.
His hair had the color of really dark chocolate and his eyes were grey like Violet’s but darker and … different. While Violet’s eyes were rather a mirror of milky glass, Sterling’s eyes seemed much harder, clearer and deeper, like a well where you drop a stone and hear the sound only a few seconds later.
Sterling looked calmer than the first time. Or maybe he was just more relaxed since he got some sleep? It couldn't have been much though if he really had been waiting there for some time.
Either way his presence was confusing and maybe a bit irritating to Scarlet. She had intended to sneak out the castle which was hard enough without somebody who’d follow her like the death himself. And Scarlet was sure that Sterling would. It was his duty after all.
But since he was there it wasn’t like she went out all alone, right? She was allowed to go outside when someone was with her, wasn’t she?

“I… uhm, wanted to go outside. For a walk.“ she said looking up at him with a most puppy-like expression.

(Note: Actually she’s not allowed to leave the castle at all. Even if she takes a guard with her, she still needs her father’s permission. But Sterling cannot know that. That little woman! She’s going to get Sterling into trouble on his first day. xD)

Sterling stared atthe girl in front of him. He started to sweat when he gave her puppy dog eyes. "As you wish, princess," he finally said, turning the other way. "Where do you want to go?" Something told him that this job was going to be a lot harder than he expected.

[Neo]

"Oh, thank you so much!" Scarlet squeaked joyfully. Followed by Sterling she made her way down the stairs, to the court yard and outside the castle. Odd, where were all the guards? The two children took a little path next to the castle walls that lead into the fields.
"You know, I'm so happy to have you as a guard. There is no one close to my age in the castle except Vi-chan. But you're older than the two of us, right?"
