Kate Walsh returning for an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy'

Feb 29, 2008, 02:27 PM | by Lynette Rice

The redhead is back at Seattle Grace! ABC has confirmed that Kate Walsh, whose freshman show Private Practice is on hiatus until fall, will return to Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Addison Montgomery for one episode this spring. Executive Producer Shonda Rhimes is still fleshing out the script, so there's no word yet on when Walsh's episode will air. ABC will air five originals of Grey's beginning April 24.

The last time Addison was seen walking the hallways of Seattle Grace was in the series debut of Practice, which is this season's second most-watched new drama (10.76 million). In the Practice pilot, Addison said goodbye to Seattle Grace to start a new life and career at the Oceanside Wellness Center in Southern California.

I just saw that posted on the ABC board :) And I'll say here what I said there:

I don't care why she is coming back, as long as I get some MAddison sex! lol. It's Addison's turn for a transcontinental booty call :)

Agreed, although in my strike-induced TV famine I will take whatever I can get!

So Kate was asked why she is returning to GA and she said.......

"I don't know, because Shonda told me to, she was like hey I am going to put you on this program, so I said OK. I dunno, I don't really understand, I mean Private Practice is still on the air, so I imagine I won't be staying for long, but I dunno what the hell I am going to do up there in Seattle Grace."

Oh Kate I don't understand either.

Very Bad idea. It could kill PrP then Addison will be gone forever b/c Kate would not go back to GA and I dont want her to.

I think it may do some good for Grey's, it hasn't been as good since Kate left- but that just may be this season, but I really don't see the point, what is Addison going to do? It's rather pointless.
Also, I agree that she really does need to stay in LA- PrP sounds as though she needs to be there as the 'foundation' in order for the show to be kept on air.
Or I may be completely out of line here, don't really know much about PrP's standing in the ratings in the US.

as someone said over on the ABC boards, I think it might be a full circle thing - addison entered the show as a consult, and there is still no obgyn at seattle grace since she left, so i'm guessing the chief called her back.

Exactly what I am saying, this just all seems extremely pointless, it is a stupid move on Shonda's and ABC's part.

Kate spent months promoting Private Practice saying she wouldn't be going back to Grey's anytime soon, none of the characters from Seattle would be coming to LA anytime soon as well, as they needed to establish the PrP characters first, PrP is not Grey's 2.0 it is its own separate show etc etc, and now in what can only be deemed to be a money grabbing ratings move by ABC (because we all know this will be the most watched episode of Grey's for Season 4) they undo all the hard work Kate put into promoting PrP as different as she ends right back up where she started.

Someone had a theory on TWoP that she would be going back for maybe flashback scenes.....which is a good theory, and I hope that is what happens, as it won't mess up the PrP cliff, if not what? Addison went to the police station to meet hot cop, Pete was at her door waiting for her and then all of a sudden she is in Seattle, so will we find out what happened when she got back home was Pete still there? will we find out if she is dating hot cop? or will they just not address any of that? Then obviously when PrP starts back they will have to go forward in time. I don't know about any of you....but I was looking forward to seeing if Pete would still have been there when Addison got home, or what would have happened the next day.

IMO I don't think Kate is too open to the idea, she didn't sound too enthused in the "interview" with Billy Bush, but of course she will put a big smile on her face and pretend she thinks it is great, as ABC owns her soul via contract, so she pretty much has to do this.

I have always been scared about what is going to happen come fall with PrP, will the ratings stay the same? that's my biggest fear that with all this time since the strike and stuff the show will take a hit, and now this could either help the show or hurt...hopefully it helps, either way the PrP cast is going to be spending a lot of time promoing the show in summer, and once again Kate will have to say, PrP is not Grey's 2.0 it is different etc etc. I know one thing for sure if PrP gets canceled Kate won't go back to Grey's, I will be highly shocked if she does, seeing her play supporting again instead of lead with 5 mins of screen time instead of the amount we get of her/Addie in PrP now would just SUCK.....ugh....

ABC sucks.

(if you read all of my rant then you deserve a gold star :P )

EDIT: OK new thought, Addions NEEDS to take someone from LA with her, that would be cool. She should take Dell. I miss Dell :(

Bad idea. I think a lot of people will say "yeah I liked it more when Kate was on Grey's Anatomy. This sucks. Pruvate Practice sucks."

Kate doesn't seem too happy about it either.

I have found a lovely white picket fence and I am parking my sadly untoned ass on it until further notice.
I went from crazy excited, so slightly devastated and now I'm just pondering. This little newsflash made me exhausted, and I spent far too much time thinking it over. I've come to the conclusion this could go very well for GA and ABC, but terrible for Kate and Private Practice, or, it could go really well for Kate and develop and even bigger following for Private Practice. But, with all the previous experience I've had with Shonda and Grey's, I find it highly unlikey that this one episode will blow me away.
Why? Why go to all the trouble of developing PP, promoting and giving it it's own idientity seperate from Grey's and now they're throwing Addison back on for ONE episode. Because we know the Grey's timeline is whacked enough already............. <_<
I feel bad for Kate, it's blatantly obvious now that ABC is riding her sucess to the money and ratings bank. Smart move in their part, but in the fans behalf, and also the character of Addison, it's really just screwing things up in the long run.
Unless they want to make me a very very happy puppy and get Derek and Addison back together....
So, yeah, big white fence, here I am. :UGH:

Okay, I get a gold star!

I read about the flash back scene thing on TWoP, and that seemed to be the only thing, IMO, that would possibly work without having desperate influences on either shows or Kate herself.

And the fence idea sounds great also....

Oh, and I think I heard somewhere that PrP had already been picked up for a second season....

^*sticks gold star on your forehead*

*joins Lou on the fence* I like this fence, it is comfy.

Yeah it has been picked up for a second season, but not a full one, only 13 episodes, if there had been no strike then maybe we could have gotten a full one with 20 something episodes, but now we have to wait and see what happens when it returns in Sept, how well it does, and then ABC may decide to order the back nine. I am upset, we got cheated out of a lot of epis in season 1 because of the strike, instead of 9 we should have had 22 *cries*

*throws things at strike*
