Title: Oracle of Seasons Discussion
Description: *SPOILERS allowed here
HCBailly - December 1, 2010 04:07 PM (GMT)
This topic is for discussing my Oracle of Seasons LP. I'll be keeping the Oracle of Ages topic open, since I'll be showing the unique content from playing a password game (from Seasons) AFTER finishing the Oracle of Seasons LP.
On a side note, we got our first snow here this winter in Chicago. Just as I'm about to start Oracle of Seasons... Coincidence? I think not.
Thanks for watching!
Jedisociety - December 1, 2010 04:33 PM (GMT)
In poland the snow is getting out of control... and i mean it!

Anyway its nice you started the topic now
Chrona - December 1, 2010 05:01 PM (GMT)
Ooh you're from Poland? Awesome, I used to live there =D
Jedisociety - December 1, 2010 05:15 PM (GMT)
I don't like Poland myself
because of horrible weather there and a lot of many things... but still better than a GUARDIAN ACORN!!!

The snow in England is out of control! The entire public transport system is paralyzed!
Chrona - December 1, 2010 05:39 PM (GMT)
Hah, we have like...no snow at all in Canadaland. Fell a few times and might fall today, but nothing that stacks
HCBailly - December 1, 2010 05:57 PM (GMT)
I'm glad it started snowing today, as I don't have work until Friday. Hopefully, all the crazy drivers from the first day of snow will be off the road by then.

then everyone's reaction would be "Why the f*ck is it so hot!? It's frickin' Winter for crying out loud!" xD anyway, it'd be pretty damn funny if that did happen IMO
HCBailly - December 1, 2010 06:30 PM (GMT)
I was thinking about my Christmas episode a little bit, "Gosh, I hope that I'll be in an ice area around that time of year. Hey, wait a minute, I can make it winter any time I want!"
OLK - December 1, 2010 06:46 PM (GMT)
We got nothing but rain here today v_v
Are you uploading Seasons tomorrow or are you taking a quick break?
HCBailly - December 1, 2010 07:07 PM (GMT)
I'm not going to wait to finish FF9 to start uploading Seasons, if that's what you mean. So far, I have no work tomorrow, so if I have the energy, I'll probably start Seasons tomorrow. I pretty much upload side LP episodes when I have the time and energy.
Unlike main LPs, where I'll upload one every day, regardless of how my energy is. Sometimes, it's a blessing, because I might feel in a slump for the day, and recording an episode may bring me out of my slump. Other days, it doesn't help so much. That is the drawback of making episodes every day, as opposed to how guys like Spoony and AVGN do it. They can wait for a good day to record whatever they like. It's also hard to be funny every day. Something I feel that I'm getting better at lately is simply allowing the game present amusing situations (ie: the bat flying into the Somaria block), and not try so hard to plan jokes in advance.

Sometimes planning jokes in advance can be a bad thing sometimes, as they can feel forced and not a spur of the moment thing. You do a good job making planned jokes funny and I can tell a difference from two years ago of your LPs.
I say try not to make it feel so much like a job with Main LPs. I admire how you upload an episode each day, along with a side LP. Hopefully LPs will always make you feel better on bad days.
As for the Christmas episode. "Hello, this is Santa Link, and I can make it Christmas any time of the years."
Shame there's not a Santa in this game like in Secret of Mana.
HCBailly - December 1, 2010 07:21 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it's going to be pretty hard to top the Secret of Mana Christmas Special. There is the reference to Santa when you get the Shovel, but that's going to be long before Christmas Day.

That is why I take the train into the Loop for work. Chicago only has two seasons: Construction, and I Can't Feel My Toes. And Yes, Chicago Drivers are INSANE. Well, most are already pretty crazy, but add a bunch of cabbies, some potholes, and a coating of ice and you get Hell Frozen Over in the Windy City.
Jedisociety - December 1, 2010 07:52 PM (GMT)
the christmas episode? cool, i hope it will work.
But im wondering if you will ever make a april fools episode?

Here in Rochester NY it was 50 and rain this morning...an hour later it was 30 and we have 5 inches of snow
Konrad - December 1, 2010 08:30 PM (GMT)
There's a whole half-inch of snow in a few patches here and there in Ohio, and it's been snowing all day.
Somehow I get the feeling that you're going to be stuck doing something in Subrosia on the Christmas episode.
Yokai - December 1, 2010 09:39 PM (GMT)
I don't know if you already planned on doing this, but you should also put an annotated link at the end of the second Oracle of Ages finale to the first Oracle of Seasons video, just to make it easier for future viewers to follow along with the play-through without accidentally spoiling themselves with the next video in the playlist. (Though you did make it pretty obvious. XD)
HCBailly - December 1, 2010 10:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'll try to remember to post annotation links to help people out.
HCBailly - December 2, 2010 03:56 PM (GMT)
Just so everyone knows, I've just finished recording the first episode today, so I'll be uploading it later this afternoon. Enjoy!
Chrona - December 2, 2010 04:34 PM (GMT)
Awesome, I can't wait! :D
I have more memories of Seasons than Ages, I think I played through it more. IIRC I owned Seasons and borrowed Ages off a friend once
Speyeker - December 2, 2010 06:26 PM (GMT)
Christmas episode, you say? Well, you'll be playing Lufia soon, and the castle theme there sounds very much like "We Wish You A Merry Christmas".

HCBailly - December 2, 2010 06:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, when I was preparing the LP, even my fiancee said it sounded like a Christmas song.
neobullseye - December 2, 2010 09:26 PM (GMT)
Also, i may have said this before (I forgot and am too lazy to look it up), but you can sorta hack your link password. By editing the last symbol of your password one symbol at a time (I.e. Start with A, then go to B, C and so an and so forth) the game will accept the password as a correct one, allowing you to get some random extra rings. You might not get any new rings at all, or you might get something like the Green Ring (Halves damage taken, Doubles damage dealt).
Maybe you could show this off for those interested?
HCBailly - December 2, 2010 09:36 PM (GMT)
I could mention it. I was thinking of showing off Paulygon's Password generator in the next episode.
Jedisociety - December 3, 2010 12:02 PM (GMT)
hmm... why not?
HCBailly - December 3, 2010 09:36 PM (GMT)
Just so everyone knows, I do have an episode for today and attempted to upload it earlier. Unfortunately, YouTube decided to eat it 2 seconds before it was finished. I'll continue trying to upload it again.
As for the shield... I mean, password generator, I decided to save it for a bonus episode at the end. There's some things in there that could be potential spoilers. It's not a huge deal, but I'd kind of like to be able to explain exactly how it works without having to stifle myself on what everything means.
Chrona - December 3, 2010 11:04 PM (GMT)
Man, I really really REALLY wanna play OOT and MM again, but I'm holding out for OOT3DS D:
Explosions In The Sky - December 4, 2010 01:51 AM (GMT)
So, I didn't really understand how you are going to handle the secret passwords in these games. Are you going to show to cut to the oracle of ages minigame during your oracle of seasons video or post all of the secrets in bonus videos later?
HCBailly - December 4, 2010 02:01 AM (GMT)
What I will eventually do is take my passwords, go to Oracle of Ages to use them, do whatever I have to do with them there, and come back to Oracle of Seasons. Normally, I would have done this all right away. However, the Maku Tree doesn't "grow" enough in Seasons to allow us access to Farore until after the third dungeon, so I'm not going to do anything in Ages until then.
I'm not certain if I want to do bonus episodes showing how to get all the passwords by playing Oracle of Ages second. That could just end up being really tedious, as I would have to do a lot of content over again. Still, I'll think about it when I get there. I'll at least show the rescue of Princess Zelda from the Black Tower and the Hero's Cave.
Red Silvers - December 4, 2010 06:41 AM (GMT)
I like the way you transitioned from the "Continued Game" to the "New Game" in the video.

He's been doing transitions like that in his LPs for quite a while.
TehMuff - December 5, 2010 01:20 AM (GMT)
I heard you mention you haven't used the link cable for both games in your LP.. I used it as a kid and from what i remember it was horribly confusing and i really don't think it should have been.. I actually have both games but i don't think i ever played them back to back, so it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
Red Silvers - December 5, 2010 01:23 AM (GMT)
Link cables in general is a section of gaming I'm glad we've moved beyond.

Psh, those cables weren't as amazing as I thought. I can't tell you the amount of times I tried pulling the cable out mid-trade, hoping that a Pokeball with Mewtwo in it will pop out for me to use...

You say that now, but I would prefer to use that over entering 260 characters for a Golden Sun Password.

Oh. my.god ditto D: I need to replay it and beat it agian so i could try to re enter it again... *shudders* btw i'm getting the new Golden Sun game for Christmas? I can't wait :D
Alxprit - December 5, 2010 07:27 PM (GMT)
I just finished the other two games to refresh my memory of the plot. Can't wait to play the third.
HCBailly - December 6, 2010 12:10 AM (GMT)

Someone has been asking me about how they can enter the above passwords into their next game. The problem is that it clearly contains a lower case "e", which is impossible to enter as a character for your password. Does anyone have any knowledge on this?
