Title: Disc 3 Discussion
HCBailly - January 13, 2010 05:36 PM (GMT)
This topic is to discuss the events of Disc 3.
Red Silvers - January 14, 2010 02:02 AM (GMT)
Don't forget to visit all the shops in Esthar. Even the ones that seem to be closed most of the time.
One of them sells Elixirs, so it's very nice to visit once so you can use it with Call Shop later.
HCBailly - January 14, 2010 02:08 AM (GMT)
Do you HAVE to visit the shops for Call Shop to be able to summon them? If so, perhaps I should add that to the notes, if only so others know that when I do the LP.
Chrona - January 14, 2010 02:10 AM (GMT)
The only ones notable are the Pet Shop, Book Store, and Esthar Shop!!! (Johnny's Shop) that can sell you Elixir with Familiar. And yes, you have to visit them at least once for Call Shop to visit em. In case you didn't know (Though you probably did), one shop never opens but gives you a useful Rosetta Stone
Red Silvers - January 14, 2010 02:12 AM (GMT)
I believe so. For most shops it's not too bad since they have duplicate items, though. The stores with magazines and the one with Elixirs are the important ones.
I don't have the liberty of being able to load my save right now, but I remember the name of the Elixir shop had some ! in the name on the Call Shop menu.
HCBailly - January 14, 2010 02:14 AM (GMT)
Is there a list of all the shops that can be called with Call Shop?
Red Silvers - January 14, 2010 02:20 AM (GMT)
I did some searching and haven't found one yet. Hopefully someone with access to a save file can provide a list, if not, I'll get you one as soon as I get my copy of FF8 back.
Chrona - January 14, 2010 02:22 AM (GMT)
I think it does every shop in the game basically, but almost all of them sell the same stuff. Just get the special ones in Esthar and you'll be fine. The one that sells Elixirs you have to try to access repeatedly.
FenrirWeapon - January 14, 2010 03:35 PM (GMT)
I found:
Balamb Item
Timber Pet
Timber Item
Deling Item
Winhill Item
D-District Item
Balamb Garden Item
FH Item
Rinrin's Store (Esther Pet)
Cloud's Shop (Esther Item)
Johnny's Shop (Esther Item)
Karen's Store (Esther Book)
That was from GFaqs, i need to look at the list I have in my call shop
EDIT: You need to visit the shop at least once to be put in Call Shop

I believe that once you gain the Call Shop ability, it wouldn't matter so much as to which shop you actually wanted to call. From my experience, what Call Shop does, it acts as its own "shop". I think this is the same "shop" that one of the CC Club members acts as on the Ragnarok of Disc 4. Anyway, when selecting Call Shop, you should be given access to many Items to use that would be available late in that disc. Hope that makes sense.
Red Silvers - January 15, 2010 04:41 AM (GMT)
The important shops are the Esthar ones. The Book Shop because you can buy any magazines you miss, and the Item Shop with the Elixirs because of Elixirs.
The Balamb Garden Item shop is Joker, if I recall.

I stand corrected. Its been awhile since I've played this game. I just checked one of my completed files and you betcha you do have a list of shops you've been to previously.

Just a thought about disk three, which is when most LPers (from what I can tell, though I hate to say "most") get the summon Odin, something worthy of note (for humor more than anything) There is an area you may want to stop by on the way to get him, called the "Centra Crater" which seems an awful lot like a reference to the Centra from FF7....
Red Silvers - January 18, 2010 12:47 AM (GMT)
He's planning to get Odin ASAP, in Disc 2.
Arcanas - January 20, 2010 12:24 AM (GMT)
People wait to get Odin? I never would have thought. I'm curious though, is HC going to use Enc-None to solve the puzzles, or fight through and solve puzzles?
Yggdrassil93 - January 20, 2010 12:31 AM (GMT)
I think I usually get Odin sometime on Disk 3, mainly because sometimes I just don't feel like going through the Centra Ruins and I'm anxious to do the epic mobile gardens battle. I love that scene of the game.
Fun fact: When I certain characters is hanging off the garden, Zell says something like "Let's go find a rope." The first time I played this game, I spent like 10 minutes running around the Quad, looking for a rope.

lol. Glad to know I wasn't the only one to do that...I think I went a new level of crazy, looking for the rope. Course, I think I got this game back when I was a kid, before the Internets decided to become a big thing. So I couldn't do any forum searching.
Chrona - January 20, 2010 03:13 AM (GMT)
Proof that Rinoa has super-human strength - she can hold onto the edge of a moving building being constantly crashed into by another, for hours on the while you spend time walking around trying to find a rope :D

She's just connected to you. Somehow, she always holds on just long enough for you to save her. (or fails at the very last second, allowing an even more heroic rescue XD)
Also, too bad that you can't play cards during that scen (i don't think you can...)
I would do it just for kicks, and be all like "Hold on just a minute longer, Rinoa! I almost won this super-rare card!" ^_^
PKUltimaOmega - January 24, 2010 01:30 AM (GMT)
I would prefer saving people with card games with Yugioh. Saving the world from time compression could be done a lot more quickly though a children's card game then by drawing magic. But I hate Triple Triad, so...much...reseting. I got Odin in disk 2 by the way.

The only time Triple Triad is annoying is when the random rule is there. Other than that, it's very simple if you actually take the time to think things through.
EDIT: I just realized there are so many words that start with t in my post. Especially the end.
thegamingdude01 - February 1, 2010 09:11 AM (GMT)
hey hc will you be abusing the certain island hidden draw points after you get the air ship if you know what im talking about
HCBailly - February 1, 2010 01:37 PM (GMT)
No, those hidden draw points take way too long, even with Enc-None equipped. Drawing those spells from bosses is much more efficient.

I dont think you have to visit the shops because i never visit the pet shops (because i dont use gfs) and the petshop was still there.

You can get it as soon as you get Garden mobile, after FH
The Ragnarok is srsly like my favorite airship. It's a flying dragon ship, what else could you want? <3
