Title: Off Topic Discussion May 2012

HCBailly - May 2, 2012 02:45 AM (GMT)
This topic is for discussing non-gaming subjects, like politics, religions, or anime. I'll let a lot slide here, but be careful what you wish for.

That said, I do still have some rules here, and for the forum, in general, since we had some problems before. Most of them are covered in the Invision TOS. Since these forums are free to me, I would appreciate if you all abide by them, so that these forums are not taken down.

http://www.invisionfree.com/tou/

Most notably in the prohibited content from the TOS:
- Abusive/racist behavior, including serious arguments and personal insults
- Pornography
- Excessive profanity

I don't think anyone should have a problem with this here. I also have a Two Strikes Policy in place now. Those who violate the policy will get a warning, but no punishment. A second violation will result in a permanent ban and IP address block. In short, just behave like a decent human being, and you should be fine.

Have fun!

So... best religious, political anime out there?

Funny part is, you might actually get a serious answer to that.

I wish my balls were half as big as this guy's.

Bill Burr was with some other, amateur comedians in Philadelphia who waited backstage over three hours only to be booed off stage, many of them also called racial slurs as they walked off. Bill Burr got angry at this and, when he heard boos as he walked on stage, decided that he would use his 14 minute set to verbally abuse the entire city of Philadelphia out of spite for how they treated his fellow comedians. He insults everything from their education to their city to their mother to their sports team, changing topics every time he thinks they are starting to find him funny, all the while reminding them how many minutes his set has left. It's the most legendary destruction of a heckling audience I've ever listened to.

“Six minutes left, and I will be selling my CD after this shit you mother fuckers.”

That was pretty funny. Interesting act he has. Are there any comics that are not angry?

Welcome to the kingdom, MAPPARU!

Since you are new blood here on these forums (so many new people today, wonder why?), there are three VERY important questions we must ask you in case there is a turtle invasion.

1. What is your most hated kind of turtle?
2. What is your least hated, but still very hated kind of turtle?
3. What is your prefered method of dispatching turtles?

Either post here send Nosgard, the leader of the turtle-defense brigade your responses, and they will be duly recorded. Thanks in advance! :D :P

Why is applying for unemployment checks so much work? ugh

HCBailly - May 2, 2012 06:57 PM (GMT)
I love balancing my budget for the month and realizing that I have a $30 surplus. Somehow, I have a feeling that if I were an accountant, I'd be dealing with people who are far less organized.

Isn't that kinda the whole point of accounting?

You don't have a set voting day that never changes in Israel? (Hope I remembered your country right. If not I apologize) ? In America it is always on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

What's a budget?

/shrug

Eh, whatever. Accounting work isn't necessarily financial advising, but moreso just organizing what you've already done financially. We don't tell people what to do with their money, unless it's for tax advice. Like, "Go buy more RRSPs." or "Setup a wage for yourself to increase your expenses and reduce your income."

Schloss Ritter - May 2, 2012 07:48 PM (GMT)
The best financial advice I ever heard was "Don't spend more than you make." You'd be surprised how many people get that wrong, even doing it myself too much.

Sociologists have a whole thing about that. The middle class likes to buy beyond their means, throwing debt on credit cards, because they are concerned with "outdoing " their neighbors and feeling more wealthy than they are.

Begaria - May 2, 2012 07:56 PM (GMT)
That's sound advice.

Yeah, as Begaria said, that's sound advice. I don't plan to ever touch a credit card unless I need to and never plan to spend so much. I don't need a lot of needs in my life. High end car, big house, lots of extremities? Don't need them. Even if I won the lottery and got a couple of million dollars or even a couple hundred million, I'd probably invest a lot of it or something. I'd probably get me a new car, just for the sake that my car is old and rusty. Wouldn't be a great, expensive one, just a new one. I'd probably obviously move out of my parent's house, still live in it for college. After that? Probably support my hobbies of playing video games. Save the money to travel.

Even still, that's hardly that much money compared to a couple of million I'd have, so I'd just invest it for the future.

QUOTE (Taku @ May 2 2012, 02:32 PM)
Yeah, as Begaria said, that's sound advice. I don't plan to ever touch a credit card unless I need to and never plan to spend so much

Actually, credit cards aren't bad if you use them correctly and smartly. I've got a credit card from my bank, but I've got one of the lower limits on it set at $2000.00 (even though they keep bugging me to increase that limit).

This accomplishes several things:

1. Having a low limit means that, if my credit card credentials ever get stolen in a set (i.e. PSN hack last year), thieves are less likely to target out lower limit cards (such as mine).

2. Having a low limit means I have a hard, realistic cap on how much I could potentially spend.

3. I've rarely even come close to reaching $2,000. The highest was $1750ish across two months when I built my PC two years ago.

4. Always, ALWAYS keep an eye on your due date for payment and pay off your card. This means you'll never get charged interest.

5. Using your credit card, instead of a debit card or cash, builds up your credit rating. It builds up even faster if you follow my advice in number 4.

Having a good credit rating will come in handy if you need to get a loan for a car, education, or when it comes to purchasing a house. When my wife and I were in the process of obtaining our home, my great credit rating worked in our favor.

So, having a credit card is not a bad thing. Misusing your credit card is where the trouble arises.

I don't know about stupid. I think it's more of a greedy thought process that causes them to make the choices they make. Which in our eyes appear stupid.
