Title: April 2012 Off Topic Discussion
HCBailly - April 2, 2012 12:53 PM (GMT)
This topic is for discussing non-gaming subjects, like politics, religions, or anime. I'll let a lot slide here, but be careful what you wish for.
That said, I do still have some rules here, and for the forum, in general, since we had some problems before. Most of them are covered in the Invision TOS. Since these forums are free to me, I would appreciate if you all abide by them, so that these forums are not taken down.
http://www.invisionfree.com/tou/Most notably in the prohibited content from the TOS:
- Abusive/racist behavior, including serious arguments and personal insults
- Pornography
- Excessive profanity
I don't think anyone should have a problem with this here. I also have a Two Strikes Policy in place now. Those who violate the policy will get a warning, but no punishment. A second violation will result in a permanent ban and IP address block.
In short, just behave like a decent human being, and you should be fine.Have fun!

Yeah...
It gives me more chances to bash non-game media, so what do I care?

There's also politics to make sure we'll be depressed at one point or another :)
Also what about comedy shows and good movies? :(
Howsonn - April 2, 2012 01:51 PM (GMT)
I don't think anyone would mind talking about comedy shows or good movies.. but a lot of the time, it literally is just anime.

Good movies?
Why I never....

I can't remember the last time I saw a good movie. Maybe the last Star Trek movie. That was kind of cool.

I started watching the Illusion of Gaia LP when that came up.
That was last year.....

Did anyone enjoy Wrestlemania last night?
It seemed like a pretty paint by numbers type of show. I was able to predict just about every result, except I didn't think Kane would beat Randy Orton and I definately didn't think they were gonna let The Rock beat the golden boy John Cena.
I'm not too broken up about Daniel Bryan losing in 18 seconds...HHH got crushed by the Ultimate Warrior in his Wrestlemania debut, so its not the end of the world.
The Hell in a Cell was brutal and both Taker and HHH worked their butts off to have a good match. It was awesome. But since I am more of a fan of old school wrestling, I enjoyed Punk vs Jericho more. I was so into the match, begging Punk not to tap to the Walls of Jericho. I was so glad when Punk made Jericho tap to the Anaconda Vice.

I watched K-PAX in an english class recently. Had to write a review about it.
Teach then asked if she could show my review to the class because it was 10/10 and she wanted to show them "this is how you do it" B)
The movie itself was pretty good.

Indeed, i watched it. Thought it was one of the best recent PPV's i've watched. But like you, as i've watched it for a tremendous amount of time i could predict most of the results correctly, but was surprised The Rock beat Cena. I figured it'd be, Cena winning and them two shaking hands, and the whole thing being over.
I greatly enjoyed it though, all the matches were decent, even the diva's one lasted longer than five minutes for once!

The movie itself was good, but don't get me started again on how they screwed the canon. I know most of the movie takes place in an alternate timeline, and that's cool. However, they dumped a major event into the original timeline before splitting off. Yeah, let's destroy Romulus and make all the related plotlines of Nemesis and late DS9 totally pointless...
Nosgard - April 2, 2012 03:34 PM (GMT)
huh, thought you were getting rid of this cause it dosen't do you anything and blah blah blah, but I know the truth. You started to enjoy it a little bit over time, because it gave you a place to say gripey things or talk about root beer and even you have to stop gaming long enough to take eat and sleep, and might have a funny dream to talk about. :P
Either way, coo! :D

The Accuracy mechanics in DnD (well, 3rd edition at least as that's what I know) annoy the hell out of me. Whiffing battle until level 7 ho.

DOn't ask me anything else about DnD. That's really all I remember.

Controversial Opinion time
Real music > VGM
And I like VGM stuff, but it can't replace a good old fashioned album from an actual band for me.
Nosgard - April 2, 2012 04:43 PM (GMT)
eh, I think it goes song to song. Some hit me some don't, regardless of band, orchestra, etc etc. VGM..not VGM..dun matterz :D
Taku - April 2, 2012 04:47 PM (GMT)
Well, it matters on what you want to listen to. VGM music does some things better than "Real" music does. But yeah, Real Music is basically so much better.
Anyways, saw the results and some footage from Last Night's Wrestlemania. I figured Rock would beat Cena. It not only cemented Rock's legacy, but also provides a direction for Cena, most likely a heel turn. Think about it. What is there left for Cena to do? He could spend the rest of his career as a Face, and I wouldn't mind, per se, but in terms of what he has accomplished, he's pretty much done everything a face could do. Even some of the best faces in wrestling, like Hulk Hogan, went heel and it did wonders. Of course, that's the biggest heel turn in WWF/E history. Just look at this crowd react.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO9zxsRzN-MSo, if Cena wants to accomplish more, perhaps a heel turn really is in order. Obviously, it would certainly drive the kids away, or turn them heel in nature as well :) , and while I like the fact that younger people are watching wrestling, we need a lot more attitude in the WWE again.

considering the fact i never actually listened to music for fun before i started hearing VGM and that i still didn't find any song from outside a game that i like i think it's obvious what i like more :P
piplh - April 2, 2012 04:52 PM (GMT)
It can go either way for music with me. Just because a certain type is more mainstream does not make it better. If I had to choose between listening to Strawberry Fields, Dancing Mad, or Winter Wrap Up, it'll matter on my mood at the time.
Hukos - April 2, 2012 04:55 PM (GMT)
Well link, you DO realize that "real music" is quite diverse, and there's a shit ton of different styles between them? Kind of hard to listen to one song and say "Yeah, I don't like real music".

when you say one song do you mean 13 years of trying hard to find songs that i like until i found VGM?
trust me i heard a lot..... pretty much most of what you can throw at me now is probably something i HAVE heard before already more then once and didn't like
and yeah in my head im not saying i hate real music
im saying i haven't found yet a song outside of a game that i enjoy
also why REAL music?
vgm is music and it's real the last time i checked
it's just different
HCBailly - April 2, 2012 05:03 PM (GMT)
Awesome music timeOkay, I couldn't find the song by itself, but any time that song plays, it's a real, "Oh shit!" moment.
