Title: Chapter 4 Discussion
Description: *SPOILERS allowed here
HCBailly - September 23, 2011 12:46 PM (GMT)
This topic for the discussion the events in Chapter 4 of Final Fantasy Tactics. As of this post, I am currently uploading tomorrow's episode.
For this chapter, I think I'm still going to power through everything. There's really no reason not to, as I feel that the benefit of mixing it up would be outweighed by the increase in length of the battles. I may still try to mix it up a little bit. In any case, I'll show off the other classes I'm not using either in bonus episodes or during battles where I'm showing off unique maps, like Bervenia Volcano.
Any suggestions for grinding up Beowulf and other such knights? Obviously, they don't have access to Accumulate. I've tended to use Steal Gil in the past.
Have fun!
Hukos - September 23, 2011 01:30 PM (GMT)
I've never bothered to grind up Beowulf, honestly. I suppose you could wait until you get a whole bunch of special units like him, and then grind them all up together at once so things even out.
HCBailly - September 23, 2011 01:34 PM (GMT)
That would be the idea, yes.
Chrona - September 23, 2011 01:41 PM (GMT)
You could always Yellcumulate with spillover JP a bit - include a Squire or two in the battle and have them spam Accumulate :P
Taku - September 23, 2011 01:48 PM (GMT)
I think you should've used CT 5 and hit everyone with Holy or Flare. I wanted to see mass destruction on everyone.

Er... I'll keep my friendly fire comment to myself ;)
But yeah, Math is great if you got all the targeting abilities. There are so many ways to abuse the game with it, so I guess it is good they are pretty expensive. (Well, compared to others) But as there are enough ways to break the game...
Milk is the best beverage for an adventurer! Alcohol only lowers your ability to fight so it's reasonable Ramza would go for a healthier drink. ;) Though, I also find it weird how games censor some thing and others not. Did Auron drink alcohol in X? It was... kind of prominent, iirc.

I can't remember, but as either his victory pose or one of his overdrive moves, he takes a drink.

Yeah, it was pretty much Alcohol. Most likely Sake looking at his character.
As for Milk, yeah Ramza does ask for Milk in the PSP version too. I don't think it's a censorship problem at all. It shows how Ramza's character is.
Jiruru - September 23, 2011 04:59 PM (GMT)
Ramza doesn't seem like the kind of guy who'd go to a bar and get wasted, so I thought the milk thing was fitting for him.
DoomSwell - September 23, 2011 05:06 PM (GMT)
I think the bar master says it best, it just shows how much bloodshed Ramza has seen.
I still think it would be neat to show off mimes at the same time as dancers/bards.
Picture it this way, 1 bard, 1 dancer, 2 mimes = 3 bards, 3 dancers and 2 monks without abilities.

The class multiplying the actions of other characters without actually having much combat use itself seems to be a common role, if I think about it... Alongside of mimes, Time Mages with Quicken (while they also have quite a bit of actual use themselves, though they focus on increasing the actionability of the other characters) or FFTA jugglers with Smile and bards in Fire Emblem, for example.
I can't think of more examples right now, though.
Hibernation - September 23, 2011 09:27 PM (GMT)
You should show off Math Skill with the auto-battle setting "Save Fading Life" (or whatever) if you're going to be using it a lot more. It's one of the few cases where the Game's AI is actually really awesome and it can save a ton of time because it comes up with moves that completely mess up the other team super efficiently. It'll nuke them with CT5Holy as well if you have it set up!
DoomSwell - September 23, 2011 09:40 PM (GMT)
With Math Skill instead of checking the numbers myself I just checked how good each combonation looked before the final confirmation.
Jiruru - September 24, 2011 02:06 AM (GMT)
I tried using an Auto-battle Calculator on my last playthrough but eventually it got pretty boring because she would just clear the battle as soon as it began and it made the rest of the team I carefully prepared rather pointless.
Chrona - September 24, 2011 02:23 AM (GMT)
Amazing how the AI works in this game...there's a pretty huge difference between "You're missing 25 HP? ELIXIR!!!" and the mastery the AI has over Math Skill...
goggles1200 - September 24, 2011 04:10 AM (GMT)
Ya, at this point in the game, just utterly destroy your enemies. I'm sure most viewers did some grinding, so they are a little higher then what you currently are, but are probably using some of the same techniques.
This is the time to get the rest of the story line and any extras that the game might have. 187 away!
HCBailly - September 24, 2011 01:52 PM (GMT)
Let me know if today's episode shows up in your subscription box today.
Taku - September 24, 2011 01:54 PM (GMT)
It did mine, but I was the one who never had any trouble in the first place, so I'll let others state this instead.
Dsilink - September 24, 2011 01:55 PM (GMT)
Erzie - September 24, 2011 02:17 PM (GMT)
It wasn't in mine, but I went to your channel to watch Seiken Densetsu III, and it was there with 10 views. ;)
Chrona - September 24, 2011 02:34 PM (GMT)
Showed up for me :)
Will watch shortly
Xehanorto - September 24, 2011 02:41 PM (GMT)
It showed up for me just fine. Also are there going to be battles where you just say forget this, use Math and wipe all things out?
HCBailly - September 24, 2011 02:59 PM (GMT)
Not really. There are some battles like the Roof of Riovanes Castle, where I'll kill the one guy immediately to make them run away. In general, I like to draw out the battles a little, just to show off what all the enemies can do.
IcarusMJ12 - September 24, 2011 04:20 PM (GMT)
JBlane - September 24, 2011 05:08 PM (GMT)
Showed up on mine as well. My subs have been showing up since around Monday.
CelerityNova - September 24, 2011 05:23 PM (GMT)
I haven't had any problems with subs. I have had problems with Youtube videos (anyone's, not just HCBailly's) sometimes causing 100% CPU use and becoming really choppy ever since they switched to that black background thing.

i don't remember how to fix that but there is a way
DoomSwell - September 24, 2011 05:31 PM (GMT)
My sub box is working now, appears I missed quite a few, got a lot to catch up on today.

Actually no, it's not Cosmic Panda. Every time I try watching HC's SD3 videos, it fades on the thumbnail, then freezes. Also on a quite some other videos. On Shadow of Israphel: 31, it worked today by forcing me to choose between watching a minute long ad, or have 2 breaks with ads in the middle of the video. That was the only video that it gave me that option. The rest just froze.

Go to bottom of the youtube home page and go to try something new
CelerityNova might choose exit HTML 5 player and Cosmic Panda
And Erzie do the same

Goodbye Internet Explorer. Youtube is a bitch, now. Gonna have to watch it on Chrome. It's the only other browser that I have installed.

Psh...hook it up with the Firefox. It's the one I use.
(It could also be because besides Glaceon my favorite pokemon is Ninetails...but that's a technicality.)

Hey HCBailly!
Is there any chance that you will share your notes for FFT with us fans?
Like you did in your FFIX run (link below):
http://z10.invisionfree.com/Kingdom_of_HCB...hp?showtopic=46I guess I could find what I'm looking for in your videos (EQ, abilities, jobs and steal inf.) but that's kind of tedious and it's easy to miss out on stuff..
Keep up the good work and thanks for all great LP's you've done so far.
Sincerely yours
iloveTSA
HCBailly - September 25, 2011 12:35 PM (GMT)
My NotesThere you go. Note that these are based on how I did things during my test runs. Obviously, during the LP, due to the randomness of missing, Teleports, and such, my JP growth is going to differ from one playthrough to the next, so some things are different in the LP from those notes.
Xehanorto - September 25, 2011 01:46 PM (GMT)
I just finished watching your new episode and I knew exactly who were talking about when you said a god character. Agh spoilers, when you know them you want to scream them to the heavens. However, I will not spoil it.

HCBailly, first of all I'm really enjoying this game. I'm seriously thinking of picking up this game thanks to watching this LP (and kicking myself for not getting back when it was on the PS1).
I got a question, I know that you have said to avoid the remake for the PSP at all costs, however if I was to download the original game onto my PSP, would I still be dealing with the slowdown issues from the remake?
