Hi all,

I've been speaking with the organisers of the St Andrews Uni Gaming Convention about a number of things and when discussing the events I ask what they had in mind.

Now currently they have RPGs, a Magic The Gathering event and a Warhammer Fantasy event planned. I've been speaking to them about maybe having a Bloodbowl event too and was wondering if anyone from here would be interested in going or indeed if anyone was interested in organising an event for the convention (maybe a 40k one?)

They've said that they're happy to host any event I can help to organise which means they'll provide the space and tables. Everything else would be down to the organisers (you guys) which I imagine isn't that big a problem.

Now the convention is scheduled for March 14th and 15th and would obviously be in St Andrews itself. Any event planned could be on either day and possibly be a 2 day event.
If people wanted to make a weekend of it and stay over then there are a number of caravan parks, hotels and B&Bs and such in St Andrews what with it being a tourist town and all that.

I'll post more on the event when I have it. I'm planning on having a stall at the convention.

So.
Is there any interest in attending?
Is there any interest in organising an event?

Alright Davey i will probably come along for a vist. As for organizing a 40k game i will see some of the lads see if they will participate in setting something up.
St Andrews night life is quite good at this time of year so staying over the weekend would be quiet cool (just thinking about all the beer we could drink.)

Excellent.

If nothing else even having a couple of tables with some games ran by the club would be a great promotional effort.

I'm planning on having a flyers printed up to promote the shop plans and have a list of all the clubs on that flyer also.

Definitely looking like a Bloodbowl tournament will be happening after speaking to a number of the Bloodbowl guys at Team Scotland.
The Leuchars club might be interested in running a demo/mini-tourney of Flames Of War.

Cheers bud.

I would be up for trying to get the guys in charge of this convention at St Andrews to let us play a game or 2 of 40K normal 5e or Apocalypse or normal 5e break FOC.
Now, if I turned up, I would not need to be let in as a guest but I would be paying student prices, as I am currently a student at the University of St Andrews but I am not a member of the society who would be in charge of this convention, as I live in Kirkcaldy and commute by bus to the University.

If they can let us play 40K in March at St Andrews, then I'm all for letting my Chaos Space Marines battle.

I'm aiming to meet up with Jonathan (the organiser bloke) after his exams in early-mid Feb to discuss more formally but the more we (and I mean all of the clubs we know) offer to help them with the better I think.

In so far as pricing in concerned I've not had that confirmed to me, however I believe that for insurance purposes that non-students will have to pay £1 more.
If you are organising an event (now that's either 1 or 2 people per event, again awaiting clarification) you will get in for free.

I'm waiting on responses from some other people but I'm popping in to see the Leuchars club folks this Sunday to chat to them about possibly running a Flames Of War event.

I've also asked about age restrictions as it is a licensed venue. Once I have more on that I'll confirm also.

Cheers,

Dave

Right. I'm still waiting on a couple of pieces of information but this is pretty much where we're at.

Ticket pricing is as follows.
Tickets are weekend based so if you buy one it lets you in for both days. The ticket includes a buffet lunch although I'm not sure how erm big this will be.
Pricing is £1 more if you're not a University student, which means any University not just St Andrews.
Actual prices are to be confirmed but I hope to get that bottomed out sooner rather than later.

The convention has 2 rooms at the Union to host events. 1 of them is the "RockSoc" venue if that means anything to anyone. It's a fairly big room and it's where anything that isn't roleplaying will be held. Specifically there will be a Magic The Gathering event on one of the days (likely the Sunday I believe) and a Warhammer Fantasy event on another day (likely the Saturday).
The other room is similar to a class room (it's called the Salad Bowl if that means anything to anyone) and is where the gaming society meets normally.

I think the space will be able to handle 6 or maybe 8 tables of Blood Bowl with some room for manoeuvre. I plan to go back again in about a months time to speak to them about specific arrangements. By that time we might have a clearer idea of Blood Bowl numbers too.
I'm going to be speaking to people about the Blood Bowl event at DWARF on the 23rd (as well as running a Star Wars game by popular demand!).

I've asked for fuller details of the Warhammer Fantasy event so that I can share it around the various clubs for input and participation.

If the Blood Bowl event is only to happen on 1 day then we have space to run something else. I'm speaking to the Leuchars crowd to see if they want to run something. If there's interest in the Kirkcaldy Club doing something it'd be great to chat about it on Sunday. I think it'd be great if we could get a Flames of War (World War 2 15mm gaming) event or a 40k event or given the current love-in for Urban War at some clubs maybe some of that?

Roleplaying wise they're finalising the line up. Definitely some D&D (Fantasy) and Traveller (Sci-Fi) and hoping to get some horror stuff too. Because I'll have the stall it's unlikely I'll be running anything but we'll see how it goes.

Age restrictions - it is, unfortunately, 18 years and over. This is purely down to the venue licensing. If anyone is 17 AND A UNIVERSITY STUDENT (any Uni) then they can get in but are not allowed in the bar area.

I plan on having a small stock of stuff to sell at the convention, likely to be mostly board and card games with some other stuff thrown in (including comic trade paperbacks) but if anyone has anything specific they want me to offer then I will bring it to the convention.
Currently negotiating my Games Workshop account so could have stuff from them also.

If you're planning on staying over let me know as I've compiled a list of B&Bs/Hotels which might be of interest.

Questions comments etc appreciated.

Cheers,

Dave

I should be coming along on at least one of the days if not both. I'll be taking the car so if anyone requires a lift there and back climb aboard. If you have your GW account up and running by then I'll probably purchase something or other.

Tickets for the event are confirmed at £8 for non-students and £7 for University students (that's any University, not just St Andrews).
That gets you in for the whole weekend.

Blood Bowl event is confirmed for the Saturday with 16 spaces (more in the Blood Bowl thread).
Urban Mammoth guys are planning to be there on the Sunday to do some more demos of Urban War and some other stuff. I'll confirm this when it's erm confirmed ;-)

RPG wise I can confirm 2 Traveller games (1 each day). Some old school RPG players might remember this game which has been relaunched in the past year, infamous for it being possible to DIE during Character Creation!
Also hoping to have games of the new (and unreleased!) Doctor Who RPG! Again I'll confirm this when it's erm confirmed :-p Also hoping to have games of Starblazers too, if you ever read the digest sized sci-fi/pulp comics in the same vein as Commando then you'll know what I mean.
There are other RPGs just I don't have the details yet!

What else? Ermmmm Magic The Gathering sealed deck event (Shards Of Alara and Conflux if that means anything to anyone).

Once I get a specific schedule I'll pull it together to share.

So, who's going?
I'll have the car so won't be drinking but if you're all up for a late one on the Saturday then that'd get my vote.

Right, i dropped by Dwarf last night and caught up with Ant (who apparently is organising/helping to organise the BB event) and reserved myself a space in the BB tourny.

So i'll be going. Might try to swing by on the Sunday too.

Ant is pretty much organising the BB event, all I've really been doing is brokering the space and filling it with events other than those put on by the St Andrews society.

Appreciate the Sunday might be harder than the Saturday for most of you, no doubt because it's when the KGC meets. If you missed the Urban Mammoth event at DWARF though it would be an opportunity to come along and try out the Urban War game.

Speaking of which, i had a chance to try out a small game of Urban War last night.

I was rather impressed. Seems like a decent set of small scale skirmish rules.

I've already downloaded the pdf of the rulebook (it's only a quid from their website!) and i'm currently mulling over which faction i'm gonna buy in too...

Current faves are Triads, VASA or Syntha (if i can get my hands on some old Void androsynth models tnhat is).

I'm still debating the whole stock it / don't stock it.

Definitely seems to have a buzz about it at the moment so if nothing else I'll dip my toe into the starter boxes. Will likely discuss further with them at the con.
