Here is an alternative type of 40k Objectives mission type, titled 'Head on a Plate'. For story preamble, you can say that with two armies taking on each other, the commanders of the armies have such a great grudge against each other that there would be nothing better for one general to see the head of his enemy delivered to him on a plate.
As far as the rules go, special rules and conditions apply as follows: Aim to kill the enemy's leader(s) and hold on to that position, to take the remains as a trophy of the battle. Both forces participating must have HQ characters. If a HQ choice taken is a unit, then the leader of that unit is the sole objective model for that unit. [i.e: a 5-man command squad does not give 5 objectives, only the unit leader] There are no objectives deployed at the start of the battle. Instead, when a HQ character is killed, do not remove him/ it from the board, but place it lying down. The killed model now becomes an objective, that can be captured and/ or contested as is set down in the 40k rulebook.
Whoever holds the most objective wins. Both forces have a desire to capture the remains of their fallen enemy but they have just as much desire to ensure that the remains of their fallen comrade does not get taken by the enemy. Of course, if one force is completely annihilated, the remaining force wins, regardless of kill points or objectives held.
