PERSONALITY

CURIOUS && CLEVER
She has an insatiable thirst for knowledge, a love for history and a curiosity about what had long passed. She holds a strong belief that power, without knowledge is useless and practically glorifies the phrase,
'knowledge is power'. She has devoted most of her life not only learning about the stories Invoria holds, but also trying to find out about her past lives. She could have been someone of great significance, done something of immense importance (or she might not), and it frustrates her that she is forced to forget about all her life's efforts only to be reborn and start all over again. She wants to learn from her past lives' mistakes and dig up secrets of that era so she may use them to her advantage in her quest for power. She looks down upon other Phoenixes who seem to not care and make no effort in learning about the past. Currently, she has been training herself to remember and keep on remembering so that in her next life, she'll be able to recall memories easily. Reading and reading and reading has earned her a vast knowledge of the world she lives in and the great events that occurred.

DETERMINED && DANGEROUS
When the Baroness wants something, there is no doubt she will get it. She'll try every means possible to get what she wants, either by persuasion or by force. She rarely gives up and is always two steps ahead. Her plans have back-up plans, and her
back-up plans have back-up plans. There will never be a time when she would come unprepared. As innocent and naive as she looks, she is far from it. She poses a great threat to anyone who gets in her path. Though she is only one person, she could be someone's greatest ally or their worst enemy. She pays attention to Invorian politics and though she gives off the pretense she is neutral, she prefers siding with the side she thinks will win. And if all goes wrong, she would immediately switch loyalties in a heartbeat. Had she the armadas of the Hydriads, the magic of the Mystics and the loyal followers of the Ethereals, she would not hesitate in using them against all other nations.

MALEVOLENT && MANIPULATIVE
Malice hides behind sweet smiles, beautiful faces mask ugly intentions. Perhaps in an alternate universe where Adriel Duvalle was not born the way she was, there might be a slight chance she would be the little sweetling that everyone thinks her as. Not that one would place all the blame of her love to cause chaos on nature. Yes, it was a trait of Phoenixes to want to cause harm and wreak havoc, but being born into something does not mean you cannot fight natural instinct. Personalities like these would manifest and grow only if the person feeds it. It was safe to assume that it was Adriel herself, as a person, who wanted to be this king of being. Scheming, scamming and stealing are just her way making a life for herself and she sees no harm in it at all - plus, it is simply fun. Skillful in the art of twisting words and manipulating peoples' minds, she has had many wrapped around her finger countless of times.

SECRETIVE && SELFISH
What is the use of being in a game if you do not know how to play? One does not simply show other people their strengths and weaknesses, their advantages and disadvantages. She prefers to be an enigma and keep people guessing. A mystery, untouchable. Very few know she is a Phoenix and if they do, they didn't hear it from her. She doesn't care what assumptions people make about her - all they need to know is that she is immortal and she is planning on sticking around for a long time. With that being said, most don't know how greedy she is. A selfish creature, she would not hesitate in sacrificing other people for her own sake. Even if someone is considered an acquaintance or friend, she considers them all as minor casualties.

GUARDED && GREGARIOUS
When it comes to trust, she keeps none for anyone. Especially being a person who has lived many lives and couldn't remember any of them, she feels the world is a dangerous place and anyone can become a threat to her. Of course, there would be nothing more delightful than having a partner, an ally, a...
friend by her side, but she just refuses to take the risk. But that didn't mean she was a brooding loner, no, in fact she loves to surround herself with people - especially those of the high and wealthy class. She feels she deserves a high place in society and that most people are definitely beneath her. Interaction with other creatures fascinate her and she uses it to her advantage when she can learn more about a certain person or an entire culture. Afterall, knowledge is power, and the more knowledge she has on something, the more power she holds over it.

STRENGTHS

Though she doesn't know how long she has lived, but she knows she is
old. She has been through countless of experiences and lived through many ages - if only she could actually remember them. Unlike most of the Invorian creatures, she appreciates knowledge and history and has fed herself with these things for centuries. She is intelligent and she knows it. Being the vain creature that she is, she believes anyone should be envious of her mind and that not many people can truly match up to her. Her intelligence is her main source of pride.

There is a reason why she calls herself an Artist of Deception - she is skillful and cunning, a master manipulator. A brilliant actress, many have fallen for her act. She has managed to get away with every single one of her schemes only leaving a few doubtful people suspicious of her. A fast-thinker, she can get creative with her plans and they tend to end not with a fizzle, but with a bang. She makes sure she is always very careful when carrying out her plans and usually, they proceed flawlessly. Of course, there are the occassional glitches.

Not only is she a rare being, she is also a powerful elemental creature. Her body is a walking, talking inferno. She could ignite flames on command and control them as easily as one would control the muscles in their body. Not many people know of this - not that she's actually showcasing her abilities to anyone. Another asset she is keeping a secret, she takes pride in her powers and practices with them whenever she can.

She is overall a hardworker with high perseverance. She rarely does anything half-heartedly. If her mind is set on something, she will put all her efforts in getting it done. An excellent example is her efforts in retracing her past lives and training herself to remember. Knowing that she is making progress only encourages her to work harder. Before, she was sure she knew absolutely nothing of her past but now, she could safely say, she remembers bits and fragments just enough for her to piece things together. You reap what you sow, and she is reaping the sweet fruits of her hard work.

WEAKNESSES

Adriel is far too easily distracted. Like a magpie, the moment she lays her eyes on something shiny, she will momentarily forget all else and go for it. This is her biggest flaw. As determined as she can be in persuing something, she can be as equally aggresive in persuing another new thing. This lack of focus will no doubt be her downfall, especially if someone manages to figure her out and uses it to their advantage to distract her from her main goal. Most of the time, her schemes and plans take longer than necessary to be accomplished because of this problem. Her priorities are a mess and she sometimes does not know how to differentiate between the main goals and the distractions.

Too consumed with the past, she sometimes forgets to be discreet. Though she always makes sure to be careful not to let anyone know of who she is and what she is doing, there are times when she is almost caught.
Almost, but they were very close calls. She delves too deep in the past that she forgets to resurface into the present as usually as she should. She would be gone for weeks, hunting down remnants of her past lives and usually gave lame excuses for her absence. This always causes unwanted suspicion on her, but it's nothing that she can't wave off.

Her lack of friends and people she can trust has become more of an inconvenience to her than something protecting her. No one can stand on their own, everyone needs some form of help, but Adriel just refuses to understand that. She is putting herself more at risk by having to do everything on her own without assistance. With no one to guard her back, she is more exposed to the potential dangers.

A matter of pride and temper, she hates backing down from a challenge. She feels a dire need to prove herself and always be right and therefore would accept any challenge thrown her way no matter how silly and tedious the task may be. She has spent most of her time trying to put a strong leash on her firey temper but every once in a while, it gets the best of her and someone is always there to endure the consequences.

APPEARANCE

Both men and women have fallen prey to Adriel Duvalle. One look and they are entranced by her angelic beauty. Her dark red lips pulled into an innocent smile would diminish any fear caused by the sight of her dark, calculating eyes. If one were to look closely, they would see the sparks of smoldering embers beneath her obsidian irises. Like moths to a flame, she has an inexplicable ability to attract people towards her.

Her beauty gives off a false sense of sweetness and innocence, successfully masking the frightening firebird within her. Long, silky locks of reddish hair frames her child-like face. Underneath the sun, her hair glistens gold with only hints of ginger, but indoors or during the dark, her hair is a very light shade of crimson. She prefers to keep her hair loose, unaffected by the modern fashions women choose to style their hair in.

Her unblemished, ivory skin looks like porcelain from a distance. Once a person gets close, they will notice the way it glows as if dull flames were flickering beneath her skin.

No matter if she is trying to be charming or purposely showing her dislike towards someone, her almost black eyes will stare at a person with cold fury. The dark orbs are calculative and if one were to find themselves the object of her attention, they would feel as if she wasn't looking at them, rather inside them. Unforgiving, they stare on with judgement giving off the impression that she knows every dirty secret someone has. In certain angles and especially in the sun, there is a golden glint to them, reflecting her inner flames. Needless to say, her eyes are her most prominent features and her most frightening ones.

As she nears the end of her life, like all Phoenixes, she turns into a horrid creature. Her true being, a firebird. No amount of Mystic magic could possibly hide the sharp tallons her fingers would turn into or the layers of wrinkled flesh hanging off her slowly disintegrating bones. There is no doubt then that the rest of her features would reflect the malice emanating from her eyes. They, too, would turn deep black. Whatever vestige of beauty she has would be lost. Overall, it would definitely be a frightening sight to behold.

And then, rebirth. She would rise up from the ashes once again in the form of an innocent baby.

CHARACTER HISTORY

"I do not know how many cycles I have lived, how many names I have used or how many people I have met. Though ignorance is bliss, I wish to know of my past lives. Memories and experience contain lessons, lessons teach us to avoid mistakes. Tell me, what is the use of having a hundred lives if you continue to repeat the same wrongs over and over again? What is the use of staying on an unending carousel that only plays to the same music? The past holds knowledge and long forgotten secrets, and in them there is power."

493 AD.

Deep in the pits of Mount Dredere, flames licked against flames, combining with each other to form an inferno. The heat could have scorched any being who dared step in a one mile radius. What could only be called
hellfire continued to rage on viciously for days until it slowly died out into nothing but ash all over the ground. Movement from beneath broke the smooth surface of the grey waste and ivory skin could be seen. The wind carried the ash away, revealing the small, plump figure of a baby. Dark eyes look up in amazement and wonder.

The birth of a new Phoenix in her first life, both a miracle and a curse on the Earth. Not only another rare elemental creature was created, but also a monster was born.

The firebird grew and walked the earth, only bearing one name;
Tala.

817 AD.

Fourth life.

Screams pierced the calm of the night. Painful, desperate screams. In the small house by the river, candle lights cast off eerie orange glows. Figures rush to and fro, panicking and nervous. A young woman with silken ginger hair had, on either side of her bed, two other women holding her back against the bed. Bloodstained sheets were entangled between her legs as she forced herself to give one last push.

For a few seconds as the last of her screams finally died out, silence settled between the three women in the room before it was followed by a loud crying. A newborn's cry.

"Sleep well now,
Lilith. You have given birth to a son."

The beautiful young woman, though coated in sweat and blood, heaved a sigh of relief before slumping back into the bed. The other two women, banshees, wrapped the baby in a thick blanket before calling the father in. He looked hopeful and nervous and then overjoyed upon hearing his wife had given him a son.

"And what shall we name him, my love?" he cooed, caressing her hair.

"Eirik." she sighed, smiling up at the man she was naming her child after. "Eirik Thaedus."

1019 - 1324.

Sixth to ninth life.

"Felix, this will not work. You must leave me and
forget about me, please."

The tall young woman spun around and walked away but the graceful vampire caught up to her all too easily. He grabbed her arm, pulling her back gently. His bright, icy blue eyes met her own obsidian irises. Staring into them, she felt her heart break even more. "Don't. Please. This will all be alright, we
can make this work."

"No!" she hissed. She had explained to him over and over again but he refused to listen, and she was forced to say it one more time. "I am immortal, as you are, but I will not always be
Aeve Decrevoix! I will die, Felix, and I will live once more without knowing anything about my past life! I will not remember you... or
us."

He pulled her closer to him, his eyes pleading to her. "I'll take care of you, I swear. Everytime that happens, I'll be there. I'll wait for your rebirth and I'll take care of you."

"And how long do you think you would be able to do that?" her voice came out in a whisper, only to mask how it was cracking. "How long will you be able to tolerate me, especially in my final years? I'll become a monster, a hideous terrifying creature. They say Phoenixes kill whatever crosses their path because they are too consumed with their rage by the time they reach that age. And what about afterwards, Felix? Tell me, how many times are you willing to watch me burn in flames, rise anew, and attempt to remind me of us? What if in my new life, I... I wouldn't feel the same way as I do for you now?" She bit her lip. "What if I won't be able to love you anymore?"

No, she didn't want to hurt him. Three years ago, she absolutely despised him and never bothered herself with ridiculous things such as
love. But now, encircled in his arms, she hated the idea of causing him pain. Being what she was, there was no choice. She had absolutely no recollection of any of her past lives and she was sure that when the time came, she wouldn't remember this one either. The life of Aeve Decrevoix. Above all, Felix De'Lenfer would suffer the most. What kind of life is it for a man if he had to remind the love of his life that she actually did in fact love him every century?

She wasn't going to put him through that.

"I will not let you go, Aeve." Something had sparked in him, his eyes widened and his body tensed with new determination. "How do you think this will make me feel when you go on with your new lives, be someone new, and I will go on with mine, with nothing but memories? No. You are mine, Aeve, as I am yours and I will
not let you go."

Despite wanting what was best for them both, she realized she was selfish. She wanted to push him away and leave before the situation got even worse, but she
wanted him to stay with her as much as she wanted to stay. And in a passionate kiss, their unspoken promise to each other was sealed.

He watched and took care of her as she deteriorated in her old age. Even when she became a monstrous creature, he did not leave her side. His complete loyalty both comforted and pained her. She wanted -
needed - a constant in every single one of her lives.

Her sixth life then ended. He was still there to witness her seventh rebirth.

He raised her and when she was old enough, told her about her past life. He made an effort to keep close to her every chance he could as if hoping that his perpetual presence would stick in her mind and she would require less effort to remember him in the next life. It was working, actually. She managed to recall a single, vague memory of her past life when he brought her to a meadow where they used to spend their time together. But it was too unclear and vague that it appeared in her mind as a single blurry scene with muffled voices speaking incoherent words. But the fact that it was the first memory she was able to remember was a success nonetheless. He then awarded her with a golden locket with the initials 'A.D' engraved beautifully onto it. They fell in love all over again.

He urged her to keep a journal, and write she did. She recorded down everything that happened to her daily in great detail, it could have rivaled a novel.

In her eighth life, by the time she was ten, she started rereading her old journal. Flashes of memories came creeping back and so, she wrote some more. By sixteen, she had decided to rename herself
Aeve De'Lenfer. She fell for him much quicker than she did in her previous life or even in the orginal life where she had first met him. No words could describe the gratitude she felt for Felix; the only thing she could possibly think of to do was to put more effort in training her mind to remember.

In her ninth life, though her memories were still scattered and she couldn't piece them together, Felix had become someone
familiar to her. Most of the time, she couldn't differentiate between actual memories or scenes her mind would make up. It would frustrate her to the point where she preferred to be alone to try to sort her mind out than talk to anyone. Felix kept telling her she was making progress but she always told him it wasn't enough.

Needless to say, they were happy together, having fallen in love for the third time. They could have gone on like this and be happy forever, except for one thing...

When she was reborn for the tenth time, it was not Felix who found her and took her.

1324 - 1498.

Tenth to eleventh life.

"Papa, what did I do wrong now?" the little girl backed away fearfully, her back hitting the metal bars of her cage. The towering man drew closer to her, his face contorted in anger. "Papa!"

The Soul-Eater refused to listen to the child's cries. "You will not bring shame to me anymore,
Sif!"

"Papa, please!" her pleas turned into frightened and desperate cries. Cries for mercy, cries for help. None were answered as she was unleashed to the Soul-Eater's cruel punishments. Her screams grew louder and louder but they soon died out, as they always did, and she was left to mourn over herself.

Imagine how fortunate Richmond van Haars was when he left his home to find a victim whose soul he could devour, but instead he found a baby Phoenix, fresh after her rebirth. One of the rarest and oldest creatures in Invoria and he, of all people, managed to
stumble upon one! He had also found a place where the baby had presumably lived in during her previous adult life. A locket and countless of journals detailing the many lives of one Aeve Decrevoix/De'Lenfer was proof enough and he took them as well as the baby.

He had no plans on devouring the child's soul, even if he knew the wonders of Phoenix soul on his body. He decided to think creatively and make a profit out of her. During that time, the only Phoenix that anyone had ever seen or heard was a man who lived far away in the realm of the Hydriads and the last time anyone spotted that man was three decades ago. He was certain people would pay to see a real life Phoenix in all her glory.

And that was what Sif was. Something someone would pay to look at. Her 'papa' would force her to grow wings. She had told him many times of how painful it was and how she couldn't bear it, but he forced her. Every weekend she had to endure pushing out bloody wings from her back and when everyone was awed and pleased and Richmond had gotten his money, they would leave her and she would slump down in her cage in a bloody mess.

During the lonely cold nights, she would lay down and think. She would have dreams of a kind man, teaching her and loving her. He would call her Aeve and his icy blue eyes would stare at her in warmth and kindness. And then she would wake up and she would feel a throbbing in her chest as if she was missing something or someone badly.

She tried as hard as she could, but she could only remember a face but not a name. She experienced sporadical random scenes flashing in her mind, scents and sounds that seemed so familiar to her but she could never pinpoint what they were.

Afterall, according to her papa, this was her first life and she had yet to live.

The torture continued on into her next life. During her death, Richmond had held a grandshow where everyone who was willing to pay could witness a Phoenix combusting into flames and come back a week later to watch the new reborn baby. Her life started all over again where Richmond would be an abusive father and force her to grow wings on her back.

The day she accidentally left her cage was the day she found out the truth. The Soul-Eater had kept her old journals and her locket. The moment her fingers had touched those old items once belonging to her, she immediately felt something. Her mind worked wheels trying to understand why those objects felt so familiar. 'A.D' stood for something important, she knew. She quickly read through the entries, fragments of memories flooding back and information slowly piecing themselves together.

Enraged, she had killed Richmond van Haars by burning his body to the bone and making sure he suffered.

She moved on to rediscover the world.

1565 - present day.

Twelfth life to fourteenth life (current life).

Another fresh start, another purpose, another name;
Adriel Duvalle. The oldest and most traditional profession of a Phoenix was thievery. Even way back during her early lives, she had been tricking and scamming people. So it was only natural that after two centuries of Richmond's oppression and when she finally freed herself, thievery was her career choice.

She made a name for herself, climbing up the social hierarchies and playing nice with the aristocrats of society. If she was nice enough, they would give her gifts and she wouldn't need to steal - but usually she did, just for the fun of it.

She resumed writing in journals and made sure her current name shared the same initials as the locket she now wore everywhere she went. She was obsessed with finding out about her past lives and the only way to do that was if she had unlimited resources, one of them being money. So, when she caught the interest of Demetrius Legendre, she realized he was going to provide all her needs. He was a vampire who was looked highly upon by the society in Atrave. So much so, the vampire leaders had even presented him with the title of Baron and gave him the small barony of Chimere to rule over.

Love was never apart of the marriage, but she didn't care. He was her source of money and connections, the title of Baroness was just an added bonus.

All the while she knew something was amiss. A certain face kept popping up in her head, a face with icy blue eyes. Being married to Demetrius reminded her of someone... she just couldn't remember who. She referred to her old journals and the name Felix De'Lenfer was written in practically every single entry. She could only assume he was the mysterious man who she sometimes dreamt about.

But the one thing she was sure she remembered; pain. Sharp wings protruding from her back, flesh ripping apart and blood spilling against her skin. Having to do that every week for nearly two centuries... no one could ever forget that.

She was determined to find out more about her past, but how was she to do that with her
dear husband watching her every move? Conveniently for her, the Demons and the Vampires were at war because of a power struggle. It was all too easy to blame his death on the Demons and no one questioned it at all. Afterwards, Chimere was left to her and all his subjects and servants obeyed
her. In her thirteenth and fourteenth rebirth, the servants of his manor raised her well. Well, it was either that or... she would burn them all to a crisp.

For three cycles, she kept under the same name of Adriel Duvalle, a fixture in high society. Despite her inherited wealth from her husband, she would still come up with schemes to swindle people every once in awhile to keep herself entertained.

She now dedicates most of her time to try and find out more about her past lives. With unlimited resources, connections and money, she could easily search through old town records and whatnot. Consumed by her past, she only acknowledges the present when need be.
