Title: Questions and Help
Clare - May 15, 2007 10:15 PM (GMT)
If anyone has any questions about using Ignis Ardens forum, feel free to ask away on this thread.
Here's a handy hint, while I think of it:
Quite often, when copying articles, there will be some combination of characters that will produce an emoticon, where you won't want one! For example, the combination v followed by ) creates a V) where you might just rather have the Roman numeral for 5 followed by a bracket! To prevent this, you can either insert a space between the characters, or, un-check the box "Enable emoticons", which you'll find underneath your composition. That should do the trick!
Clare.

Hi Clare, :D
Where can I post about requesting for prayers?
Or can I post one on Licensed Cofee Bar?
Please advise... :duck:
Thanks,
Joan :wine:

Hi Joan,
Pinned in the Discussion section is the
Oremus thread for general prayer requests.
There's also the
Requiescant in Pace thread for prayers for the dead.
Clare.

It's because the Reference Library section isn't a discussion section.
Anyone can open a new thread there (providing it links to some online document or book), but members can't reply to topics.
There is an old thread
here about the temperaments though. You're welcome to revive that one. I've been meaning to do it myself, actually.

Thanks, you're such an instant helper when it comes to this! :ty: :wine:
Adesto - October 29, 2008 10:00 PM (GMT)
The forum looks odd on my screen; is anyone else having problems viewing emoticons when in a post? And when I look at the main screen i.e. the one showing all the different sub divisions of the forum I see "last post" stuck in the middle of the divisions titles.
Kinda like :
last postNotices Adestoand Announcements
It's nothing to do with the viewing size (I've tried changing it with the Control+Mouse Scroll, but it makes no difference)

I'm not getting that on this computer, Adesto.
My standard answer to these questions is:
"Perhaps it's a browser issue!"
I suppose there's no point in suggesting that you :ask: about something like this!

Alas, members can't edit their thread titles, so I'll amend that one.
I won't correct typos in posts, but I often do in thread titles, when I notice them.

Not sure where else to put this Clare,
But a typo on the SSPX GB, page has become the source amusement of some idle minded anit-SSPX Catholics who find it the highlight of their day to poke fun at. Sad !
From 1060 to 1962 Archbishop Lefebvre was a member of the Central Preparatory Commission of the Second Vatican Council. He resigned his See in 1962 in favour of a black bishop from the native clergy, a bishop whom he had formed and ordained. In January 1962 Archbishop Lefebvre was translated to the See of Tulle, France, with the personal title of Archbishop-Bishop of Tulle. In the same year he was selected Superior General of the Holy Ghost Fathers. He held this post until his resignation in 1968.

Is it folks on a Novus Ordo forum, Lark?
I've been maintaining a low profile on them lately!

Hello Clare,
I'm having trouble uploading a .jpeg file from my computer as an avatar. I get a message saying I'm not allowed to upload that type of file. However, it's come up all right as my Personal Photo, downsized to 128x132. I don't look quite like that, so I'd rather have it as an avatar! Any help?
Many thanks. :)

I'll try to sort that for you a bit later this evening, Gabriel. :)
Clare - April 13, 2010 09:45 PM (GMT)
I've done that for you now, Gabriel. :curtsey:

Now your avatar's just showing as a red x in the top left corner, Gabriel! Hopefully it'll sort itself out. If not, I'll try tweaking a bit.

Hi - i have just joined and I can't work out where I can post as a 'newbie'.
Could you let me know what forums I can post in? Thankyou!
Also - am I right in thinking this forum is concerned with the UK SSPX?
My reason for asking is that I would like to attend a TLM and I think SSPX may hold one near my area, but I can't seem to find any info on this site as to times and places.
Please forgive me if I am on the wrong forum, I apologise :)
Best Regards,
DV

Hi deusvult.
You should be able to post anywhere, since I validated your membership.
Yes, the UK SSPX is a speciality here! You have come to the right place! :D
Whereabouts are you?

Thankyou Clare, much appreciated.
I am in the North East, I work in Gateshead and heard there was an SSPX Mass nearby, but I'm not sure where exactly, or what the times etc are.
Thanks again for your help.

DV

How does one go about embedding a video in a post, rather than just posting a link?

Bravo. There are a couple of threads giving instructions. I might post some more in different sections of the forum later too.

Yes, and if you don't mind my suggesting, it would be helpful to have a "how-to" section for things like that.
Oldavid - August 17, 2010 04:49 AM (GMT)
Righto. I'm starting to get the hang of this computer thingo.

But I can't work out how to stack quotes iterspersed with my commentary ( or even just how to stack quotes, for that matter).
I'm sure that someone will be kind enough to explain the process for a silly old codger.
Clare - August 17, 2010 07:10 AM (GMT)
Oldavid,
I'm no good at explaining how to do these things, but I'll have a go.
If you want to quote a bit of a post, and then make a comment, and then quote another bit, etc... It's probably easiest to copy and paste the whole of what you're going to comment on, and paste it into your posting box, and split it there into sections. Before each section put the word QUOTE in [square brackets] and after each section put /QUOTE in [square brackets] and write your comments after each bit.
Hope that makes some sense!

Pilgrimage of Grace - August 17, 2010 06:22 PM (GMT)
Or if you want to quote someone who is quoting someone and then comment you do it like this (except those squarish bracket things should be used instead of these semi-circular ones)
(QUOTE)(B)Posted by Oldavid(/B)
G'day mate.
(QUOTE)(B)Posted by Clare(/B)
Good morning.
(QUOTE)(B)Posted by Credo(/B)
Top o' the mornin' to yer
(QUOTE)(B)Posted by Colleen Hammond(/B)
How y'all doing?(/QUOTE)(/QUOTE)(/QUOTE)(/QUOTE)
Strewth, I'm I the only one who speaks proper English round here, mate?
Change everything above to these brackets [ ] and you get this:
| QUOTE |
Posted by Oldavid G'day mate.
| QUOTE | Posted by Clare Good morning.
| QUOTE | Posted by Credo Top o' the mornin' to yer
| QUOTE | Posted by Colleen Hammond How y'all doing? |
|
|
|
Clare - August 17, 2010 06:50 PM (GMT)
Or you can put =name after the word QUOTE thus:
(QUOTE=Oldavid)G'day mate.
(QUOTE=Clare)Good morning.
(QUOTE=Credo)Top o'the mornin' to yer.
(QUOTE=Colleen Hammond)How y'all doing?
(/QUOTE)(/QUOTE)(/QUOTE)(/QUOTE)
change to square brackets to get this:
| QUOTE (Oldavid) |
G'day mate.
| QUOTE (Clare) | Good morning.
| QUOTE (Credo) | Top o'the mornin' to yer.
| QUOTE (Colleen Hammond) | How y'all doing?
|

I should put on the dunce's cap and stay in this corner.
I have, somewhere in the bowels of this 'puter, some pictures that might be of interest, amusement or dismay to Mr. Wilson (and perhaps others) but I can't work out how to embed them in a post.
If I am not judged to be too irresponsible to have access to such powerful tools would someone be so kind as to explain the process? :pl:

If you want to upload a photo from your computer, (and you can only upload one photo per post), there is, underneath the box where you compose your posting, a button to click on. It says either "Browse" or "Choose file" (or maybe something else) depending on your browser. If you click on that, it will let you find a file or photo from your computer.
Alternatively, if the picture you want to post is online somewhere already, you can write click on it, go to Properties, and copy the URL, then paste it and wrap it in IMG tags (IMG in square brackets before and /IMG after). This way, you can post up to ten pictures per posting.
Hope this makes some sense!
