The Crystalli - Wandering Tribe
-------------------------------------------------------
Tribe Description: The six-member tribe is a ragged collection of Crystalli separated from their various families and tribes. There are three males and three females, one of which is pregnant. The only general look that the tribe members share are a gaunt, muscular leanness.
Spoken Language: Grunts and hand motions are the most complex their spoken language gets, enough to minimally function.
Written Language: They have no concept of writing.
Current Area: Flooded Jungle
The flooded jungle is an unrelentingly humid rainforest where most of the ground is covered in water, from inch-deep puddles to forty-foot deep lakes. A wide variety of flora and fauna thrive in the jungle’s various levels – the canopies, the ground, and the water. All main clades of animals are represented well here save birds. Bony-headed amphibians dwell in the shallower regions of the lake, carnivorous fish swim in the depths, and mammals and reptiles populate the higher reaches of the jungle.
Current Location: Lake Fringe
A strand of trees overlook a shallow cliff leading to one of the jungle’s many deep lakes. Moss overgrows nearly everything here, but sunlight is plentiful due to widely spaced trees. Small reptiles and amphibians are abundant, preying on even more abundant insects. The largest creatures here are predatory amphibious apes and reptiles and fish deeper inside the lake.
Religion: They have no concept of religion.
-------------------------------------------------------
Total Population: 6
Amount of Elders: 0
Amount of Elder Adults: 0
Amount of Adults: 4
----- Males: 2
----- Females: 2 (1 Pregnant)
Amount of Young Adults: 2
----- Males: 1
----- Females: 1
Amount of Young: 0
Amount of Infants: 0
Unborn Children: 1
-------------------------------------------------------
Adult Male #1 – This is the leader of the small tribe, and the largest to show it. At almost nine feet, this giant amongst giants has massive, supple horns and a deep commanding voice. He carries a certain royal elegance despite his lean figure and dirt-smeared down. He has mated with the pregnant female.
Adult Male #2 – This male is of average stature and brawn, though he has a cunning mind. Although he is the eldest of the tribe, he is not much older than the leading male, though obviously not as strong. He has a natural affinity for herblore and knows many medicinal properties of various jungle plants.
Adult Female #1 – This adult female is the mother of the younger female, and is rather protective over her. She has a loving, if somewhat overbearing attitude. She is known for her ability to appraise various fruits by just sniffing them to tell if they are edible or poisonous.
Adult Female #2 – This female is an older adult, yet maintains much of her youth through her sleek downy feathers and strong horns. She is obviously pregnant, for her stomach swells out rather far. She must be due soon. This female has a soft, motherly personality. She is unable to work due to her pregnancy.
Young Adult Male #1 - This male is the son of the tribe leader, and takes after his father handsomely. He is very intelligent and has a sharp and keen mind as well as a body filled with youthful strength. He’s a brilliant hunter, and has his eye on the only other female his age in the tribe.
Young Adult Female #1 – This female is in the prime of her life, and has the attention of the leader’s son to show it. She holds more than just beauty though, for she has a great sense of direction. She claims it comes from her stargazing, a favourite hobby of hers.
-------------------------------------------------------
Food Needed Daily: 17

Resources and Supplies:
    Living Wood (N/A)
    Dead Wood (N/A)
    Driftwood (N/A)
    Stones (N/A)
    Vines (N/A)
    Fresh Water (Unlimited)
    Broad Leaves (N/A)
-------------------------------------------------------
Food Stores: No food is stored.
-------------------------------------------------------
Shelter and Housing: The tribe is using natural cover, like broad-leaved foliage and trees.
-------------------------------------------------------
Separated from their individual families and tribes, a small group of lost Crystalli have stumbled upon a wide-spaced fringe of trees bordering a beautiful azure lake in the northeastern branch of the flooded jungle. They have been wandering for quite some time and eating whatever small animals they could find. A pregnant female who has just recently joined them has forced them to settle down. The leading male has decided to settle down in this particularly fertile branch of the jungle. They have easy access to fresh water and a variety of prey, and there aren’t too many large predators to worry about here. Not many beasts would be willing to attack an eight-foot armoured giant, and the tribe is relatively safe for now.

A preliminary scan of the surrounding area finds that it is as abundant in resources as it is in beauty. Several small amphibians crowd the lakeside, with fish further in. Small reptiles and mammals climb the trees, preying on equally tasty insects. Many of the trees bear fruit, and some of the trees have edible leaves. Wood is available in abundance here, whether it be living, dead, or washed up on the lake shores. Strong, supple vines are in almost limitless supply, and the lake has washed up hundreds of stones of every shape and size.

The larger trees here are large enough to provide a place to sleep for the six-member tribe. Their stomachs are empty after their long journey, and tomorrow they shall have to hunt.

Everything in the 'production point' category has a 100%. Each production point you assign them, you fill out that much percent. The more they're filled out, the better they are. A 1% done spear will be a rough stick, a 100% one will be a damn fine weapon.

Pretty much the same thing for culture, except for obvious things like names. Put a lot of points into names and they'll add up to a general 'Language' category or something like that.

For actions, you assign tribe members. The more assigned, the better it'll be done, and the more skilled the tribe members will become in that area.

I've got it. Each thing has a point limit, from 1 up to 100 somewhere. The harder and more complex the project, the more points it'll have. For example, making a fire would have a larger range than sharpening a rock. There's only so many ways to sharpen a rocks, and a master rock sharpener isn't too different from a novice rock sharpener. Fire making though is a much more complex process where there's much more room for skill, so it would have a larger range.

Names generally just cost 1 point. The excess points, if any, will go to an overall language bar.

It'd probably be best if you set a minimum amount of points that can be given to a certain choice before it can be considered to have won. Then you can average out the winners and add or subtract points from those averages in a ratio that reflects the wishes on the majority.

Sounds kind of complicated, but unlike many of the past Genesis incarnations that have been complicated, I actually like this one.

B 5. Weapons!
C 5 Clothes/Armour!
F 13 Fire, one of the most important discoveries, and something that we will need to do skillfully because of our setting.

C 1. Having names promotes individuality and a sense of pride, increasing productivity.
E 1. Having a tribe name unifies individuals, and gives them a sense of a greater purpose, increasing productivity and decreasing arrogance/greed
F 10. Having a language allows much better communication, and will lead to things like writing, fables, and laws, in addition to simply increasing the effectiveness of communication, increasing productivity.

C. Adult male #1. You sort of need wood to make a fire, also, the deadwood sound like it would be the driest
D. Adult male #2. He knows plants, so might as well put him in charge of that (not that I'm thinking we'll use these for medicinal purposes), and vines are very useful, serving as ropes.
E5. Adult female #2. I don't quite know what stones are best for making fire, but I know that sharp stone have many uses
I. Adult female #1. She knows berries, and we need food
K. Young adult male and female #1. They both seem rather intelligent, and more children are always better.

In addition to the main updates, our tribe will run into situations which, depending on the way their resolved, will shape the tribe culturally and technologically. These often occur in between updates.

-------------------------------------------------------
At dawn the Crystalli awoke, and attended to their basic needs. They ventured to the lake as a group to drink, and spotted triangle-headed amphibians living in holes along the river bank. After drinking, the Crystalli split into two groups. The females would begin harvesting wood while attending to the needs of the pregnant female, who was unable to work. The males would hunt for the entire tribe, going after larger game. When they were done, they would meet back up at the stand of trees that they had slept in the previous night.

As the females waded through the pools of the flooded jungle, they found that there were three types of wood for them to choose from. The first was living wood, which had to be cut from trees. It was the strongest and firmest of the wood, and carried a lot of moisture. The other type was dead wood from rotting logs and fallen trees. This wood was the softest and would sometimes crumbled into soil if even touched. It was also incredibly porous and carried the most water. The last type of wood was driftwood washed up on the banks of the lake. It was smooth and blanched, light and dry. One of the females argued that they shouldn’t harvest living wood, because the jungle spirit would be angered.

-------------------------------------------------------
How do you want to deal with this situation?
A) Listen to the adult female, and don’t gather living wood.
B) Heed her advice, and only gather some living wood.
C) Ignore her and gather living wood.

Because both are very negative attributes? However, if that is just part of the basic idea behind the Cryst, then I'll change my vote to A.

Well, I don't like the fact that the Crystalli are little girls, but it's been that way since they strayed to the surface.

Whoot the Crystalli are back

How do you want to deal with this situation?
C) Ignore her and gather living wood.

While the Crystalli normally have been very superstitious aswell as somewhat cowardly these ones have gotten seperated and will basicly be forming their own views and values, as such i think it would be more interesting if they differ from the original blueprint

I'm all for the whole being spiritual thing, but not collecting the best supplies simply because we don't want to anger some 'jungle spirit'? Heck no. The problem with this scenario is that what we really want is the drift wood, but by choosing not to take the living wood we set a precedent for similar situations. So this decision is lose/lose. I chose to take the living wood this time simply because it would be easier for them to adapt in the future to taking drift wood for fires rather than trying to get rid of following these stupid self-imposed rules to not anger certain 'spirits'.

On a side note, I do think that they should have 'spirits' or 'gods', but that we should choose carefully what exactly we want these gods to be and what exactly they stand for, because what we choose the god's viewpoints to be will likely have a big influence for years to come. A jungle spirit that prevents us from gathering wood is not something we want. In the future though we may want to develop a nature god or something that encourages moderation in taking things from nature, or that encourages us to help nature along by making things more habitable for animals/helping plants grow/etc. That would stop us from ripping apart the ecosystem, yet still getting the stuff we need to continue our societal growth.

A) Listen to the adult female, and don’t gather living wood.

It may be the best material and you may think this a weakness now but in the long run you can turn a weakness into a strength. While slightly cowardly now I am sure there will be chances later to turn this into a useful trait.

Maybe you guys go fucking psycho in a religious kind of way. Zealots of the trees? Touch that tree and you die? In other words your at your element in battle or defence if you have all the more reason to protect said trees. Not only that but if you want to keep you "technology" from polluting in the future now is a chance to start down that path.

Short term it is kinda useless but you have to build up to it.

Also any idea when you may get around to bringing the Xivai an update? Also twitch good to see your views of them have not changed much.... if at all tongue.gif

Edit
Hate to be counter productive to the Xiva but those trees if they have special traits may be ways of combating us if left undisturbed. It was a crazy thought to cross my mind but it would be cool if there was a way to defend yourself against floods in the long run. Sure the initial thing would get you but if you had lots of things to absorb said water then you might not have to worry for long. Maybe even a way of harvesting something from the tree like a fruit that contains lots of water or something.

Yeah, it seems kind of weird to update the Crystalli first, when they're little wuss girls that no one likes.
