Well, we have generated a bit of interest on the old elder scrolls forums. Even Maiq talked on the chat, so I think it is time we started another game right from a single cell. Anyone at all interested?

Posted by: Seb (sjvan0) Aug 14 2008, 05:56 PM
Why not? Although, who would be host? You?

Posted by: M'Aiq Aug 14 2008, 06:52 PM
biggrin.gif

Well, I'd be happy to join, but since I didn't actually PLAY last time (I just looked on), I'll need an introduction.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 14 2008, 07:53 PM
Think of it as an elaborate and expansive multiple choice game. I could host... but Oath was good at this stuff I mean he seemed to have a good grasp of biology and stuff and was an excellent host... in that aspect.

I am not sure if I would be up to the task of it, do you think if we asked Oath he would come back Seb?

Posted by: Snefru Aug 15 2008, 08:26 AM
I'm up for it, sounds really interesting.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 15 2008, 10:07 AM
If anyone knows people that would be interested. I don't mean a yea Ill check it out but a for sure interest and they would post in this topic please go and bring them here tongue.gif

Still not really sure if I want to host, I don't think I would be good at it I have no knowledge about biology damnit!!!

Posted by: M'Aiq Aug 15 2008, 11:13 AM
How about making a discreet little post in CD?

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 15 2008, 11:21 AM
Err I am not sure I want to risk it... the mods are strict. You mean a new topic or post in that spore thread?

I was thinking a new topic, but the one who does it will most likely be warned. Make a new account? tongue.gif

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 15 2008, 01:17 PM
Moderators can see IP's so there is no hope with a new account unless on someones else computer. I could easily get my last warning removed... but then getting it back again would look shifty. It may perhaps just be something to consider. Oh maybe they will give us permission to host a game there or um look for people tongue.gif

Dunno, send a PM to someone nice, and include some begging puppy eyes. Who's the nicest moderator? Stomper?

(BTW, can you change the font colors here in the forums? Dark gray on black background isn't very easily readable)

This is awesome. It was only a couple weeks ago when I felt some nostalgia for Genesis again, and wallah, a new game is born. I'm more than up for it, but I'm in Cambodia for the next two weeks...doesn't mean I can't do it, though. We'll see. I'm definitely up for it.

How many interested do we have?

biggrin.gif

Only we who have posted in this topic, so far. We need to reach more people, somehow.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 16 2008, 05:32 AM
So far? A grand total of three and possibly a fourth guy who posted above but not since his first post tongue.gif Also it is good to see you, soon as I seen how much spore sucked compared to when it was announced and the barbaric "safety" measures I knew we needed a Genesis again. I will try to round up some more people now that I know we have a host even if it gets me a warning... tongue.gif

Edit
Okay I posted a little message in the spore topic on ES Forums, lets hope we get some people.

Posted by: Acesolid Aug 16 2008, 05:55 AM
I'm realy interrested in playing in a new game. biggrin.gif

But damn, it's been a while since I last played.

PS: I think the best way to resurect the game would be to somehow get it back on the elder scrolls forums.

Let's just ask every single moderator one after the other and say we wont cause any trouble untill one accepts, and if no moderator accepts... ninja.gif 188.gif 676.gif

That's great news, let's hope they will agree to let us bring Genesis back to life!

Acesolid?! It's been a while.

Wow, I didn't even think we had a chance to be back on the ES forums, what with the strictness and all. I agree, that's the only way possible to have a constant stream of members both in and out, which is how to keep the game alive. I can start it with five, though.

Do you want to make another 'vanilla' game, or do you want to make it a bit more interesting? Hydrogen gas giant world, or maybe we'll evolve flora instead of fauna. Who knows, I'm up for anything.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 16 2008, 05:04 PM
Vanilla for now Oath, should we need to change I am sure we can find some obscure way of doing it wink.gif

I think it would be fun to play a game on a younger planet, with a lot of volcanic activity. Our cell could start underwater near an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrothermal_vent (where the whole ecosystem revolves around the chemicals comming from the vents rather then the sun). It would be cool since there could be a lot of weird creatures around.

But that's just a random idea, and I think playing a vanilla Genesis game could be equally fun, if not more.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 16 2008, 06:43 PM
Oooo how about a high gravity planet that is almost entirely rolling plains and desserts with just a little bit of forests. So it would be an incredibly arid planet, we would most likely have to adapt to storing water for long periods of time since there is so little of it.

Posted by: OathinBlood Aug 16 2008, 11:47 PM
See, now we have the ball rolling. All good ideas...the heavy-gravity planet would be strange, though. I still like the idea of a gas giant where everything floats.

Posted by: M'Aiq Aug 17 2008, 11:00 AM
Any news from the mods?

I think a volcano style planet would be awesome.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 17 2008, 12:16 PM
No news yet, if he doesn't respond tonight I will ask him if tomorrow if they reached a decision.

I don't want to be pushy as it might ruin our chance tongue.gif

It's kind of similar to what we had with the Xivai though, isn't it? The gas giant idea sounds interesting, although it doesn't really give much variety in biomes, does it? I like the high-gravity idea, though

nah, I dont think it would be enough.

The only way for such a game to work is to have a large and constant flow of peaple playing. And the only way to have that is to be on an already large forum, or have a lot of publicity.

And I think a game on a high gravity world would be realy fun.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 28 2008, 01:37 PM
Well I am still here waiting for any sort of development. Oath surely you can host us somewhere either on the gamefaqs... *sigh* forums... or someplace else preferably.

Posted by: smurfslayer Aug 29 2008, 04:34 PM
In all honesty though, we should probably wait until a while after Spore's out to do this, as I can foresee the game eating up all of my free time, as I'm sure it will with others.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 30 2008, 07:52 AM
It won't be eating up my time... what a disappointment it was. My time will be taken up with college and X3: The Terran Conflict.

Posted by: Seb (sjvan0) Aug 30 2008, 05:22 PM
With the copy-protection that EA have decided to implement, it won't be taking up any of my time either.

Posted by: Acesolid Aug 30 2008, 05:53 PM
Well, I dont think there is any chance at all of having the game going back on the elder scroll forums.

I just mentionned the evolution game and the Men in black erased what I said, then all posts leading to mine, and then all those slightly related to it in the entire thread!

Apparently they realy are very very passionate about that.

Damn, I had hoped the game could be resurected on the elder scroll forums, but apparently it's impossible...

Anyways, about Spore, I'll buy it even with the copy protection, because I am certain after a while they'll get rid of the 3 activation limits. But I agree it would be much better if it would be sold on Steam, that is in my opinion a much better system.

Posted by: Seb (sjvan0) Aug 30 2008, 06:03 PM
Dude, not a good idea to make a comment like that. You probably know this already, but the TESF mods are veeerrry touchy about calling attention to their activities.

It's just that I was under the impression that a mod had simply "sterilized" the whole thread and went away without saying anything.

Posted by: OathinBlood Aug 31 2008, 05:03 PM
Well, I'm back home again and ready to go. Simply point me to a forum and I'll go. Your job is just finding a suitable one.

Posted by: Gamgee Aug 31 2008, 07:07 PM
Ooo here that guys? Well I have a few likely candidates in mind, we just have to investigate them a little bit more.

Giant in the Playground, a mature website devoted to DnD. However they have an excellent area for off topic games which I am sure we could use for spore. It is a big forum so I don't doubt any lack of players.
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/

Another option is here, another DnD site but slightly more strict. I am not sure if other games would allow something freeform, and the way the forums are set up there would be no influx of members because of a one time sign up policy type thing. http://www.dndonlinegames.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6106

Finally... and my least favorite choice out of my ideas is gamefaqs forums... not known for their intelligence do we won't those types of players? However a secure player base is completely assured. Another reason I don't really care for it is long time rivals have born and died there, it would feel odd taking over when all of the others died wink.gif

I think our best bet (within your 3 suggestions) might be the Giant in the playgroud forum, it looks good enough. With more then 30 000 members, it should be ok.

Anyways, wherever Oath decides to start a new game, I'll follow. cool.gif

I'll throw my vote in for GitP, I all ready frequent the site and have read the web comic in it's entirety, so for me it's just one less bookmark (and yes, I have kept this site bookmarked).

Bookmarked? I don't need no stinking bookmark for this page! It's the first thing that comes up when I type "z" in the address bar...

Anyway, I don't think the "silly games" section is the right spot for this.

(In case any of you were wondering why I didn't reply to this topic, I've been on the Baltic Sea for the last two and a bit weeks. Helsinki was nice, as were Stockholm and Tallinn. St Petersburg was interesting, if still rather obviously recovering from the Soviet era. A lot of ruined mansions and unpaved roads pretty close to the city, and the public transport system in the city centre looked like it had been using the same buses and trams for the last 40 years. A really strong contrast to former East Germany, which from what I saw (which admittedly wasn't all that much), looked pretty similar to Holland)

Posted by: OathinBlood Sep 25 2008, 07:44 PM
Yay I too love GitP

But sorry for my recent absence, unlike the last time I hosted this game, I have a thriving social life and am actually busy making money and earning grades

But no fear, Im still very much up for hosting this game. Lets see some replies before I make the topic though

Again sorry for phasing out on you guys, but im back

Been away from a computer at home for some time due to me being a suspected pirate at least a pirates right hand man... long story and I don't want to repeat it just in case they are serious, although I will say that I am not a pirate.

Point being they disconnected me for awhile for showing up one too many times on the bandwidth radar and are now charging an extra 10 a month for 100 gigs total. Anyways I am hopefully back and won't show up on the radar again...

"any preferences? im not liking high grav. might just go vanilla with some spice."

Posted by: Gamgee Sep 28 2008, 07:12 PM
We were discussing what type of setting or planet we wanted. I suggested high gravity, others were also made. I assume spice would mean some zest and interesting locals to a relatively familiar planet with earth like qualities.

Edit
Looking back on what I typed above... I sound like a robot I can even picture myself saying it with this sleep.gif and a drone voice. tongue.gif

Oh, well in that case I'd go for vanilla with some spice because it would be more like the original game, which I am extremely nostalgic about.
