The potions room was deserted. There was no one insight within the room, not in the store cupboard at the back nor in the equipment room to the side. The professor’s desk was unoccupied and nothing had yet been laid out upon the benches that filled the centre of the dank, little hole in the castle dungeon. All that was present when the doors were opened for the first lesson for the collective first, second and third years, was a little silver snake, coiled tightly upon the desk before. The black eyes were watching the door with a fierce intent seen only in hunting mode and the tiny forked tongue began to flick as the sound of footsteps approached.

Master Slytherin was not yet present, although, he was always watching. Sergio, his pet snake kept an eye out for late students and informed him should any not behave themselves. Still, the younger students within the school could not be expected to understand the connection between snake and man and the integral part of their potions masters personality that linked the two so finely. Those more intelligent students could probably guess, Sergio, or one like him at least, did appear on the Slytherin house crest after all.

And so, here began an important journey into the art of potion making for some, a further progression along the path for others and a bridge for the eldest of the collective group to cross. This term was going to prove to be very interesting and Salazar Slytherin was itching with anticipation to see what dregs Godric had managed to drag into the school this time and also, he could not wait to begin picking the wheat from the chaff and selecting those for his preening process. Oh yes, Salazar had his plans in place already.

Today would be a good day and for once she would wake up on time and not be running late. Rolling out of bed with a yawn she jumped on her friends beds bouncing them awake. All but one of her roommates seemed reluctant to rise from their comfortable spot. Catching the bathroom early Evee showed and prepared herself with a smile present on her face. Dressing herself accordingly she walked out of the room with only one of her friends in toe. The girls chattered about random things as they headed down to the dungeons.

There was something so intriguing about the potions class and she was very much excited to start off. It did worry her a little though; the teacher was a creepy old man, the head of the Slytherin house. It was becoming a known fact that Evelina Indor and the Slytherins did not get along because she was a Gryffindor and was always constantly talking back to them. One of the reasons she got herself in quite a few predicaments but it could not be helped.

Entering the classroom the girl next to her froze and her laughter silenced, Evee glanced around before turning her attention to her friend. "What’s wrong, you look like you died twice and risen from the grave." Her friend slid her eyes towards Evee ever so slowly, "Don't you think this room is creepy Evee, no ones even here yet...not even the professor" Evee let her eyes slide around the classroom finally taking notice of the emptiness that she failed to have recognized, she must of woken up earlier then she thought.

Evee's eyes stopped on a silver snake on the desk and she walked over to desk kneeling a good distance away and watched the snake with a smile. Her friend finally able to move again took a seat in the back of the class and watched her friend frightened, "Be careful Evee it might attack you." Evee just chuckled with a smile and continued her watch of the snake, "Don't worry so much I'm being careful, this is the professors snake is it not."

Her friend remained as cautious as ever and continued to whine trying to get Evee to join her in the back of the room. Evee sat in one of the front seats and motioned for her friend to sit behind her, "You'll never learn anything from way back there." Her friend moved behind Evee and the two talked quietly as they waited for others to arrive.

Ada swept with a grace that suggested her entrance to be into a ballroom or great hall, not a near-empty, dark classroom. Behind her, the usual gaggle of giggling third-years and a couple younger walked in a considerably less graceful manner. They where her backdrop, the ensamble in the play titled "Adalisa's Marvelous Life": never designated to shine like their star did, only present to fill out the ranks. And indeed, her group was very much like an army, but of course less disciplened, and ready for things much more intense than fighting. Rather, it was 3rd year potions.

But the army did have an arrangment of sorts. Ada, the general of the group, immediately seated herself in her usual seat, at the front of the classroom, dead center of the row. It had been her position for the last two years of potions class, and the six seats around it where traditionally "reserved" for her friends. She settled down in her own seat, which was empty, with all the grace of a true Slytherin.

And speaking of serpents, her eyes lit up appreciatvely as she noticed the Professor's snake: Sergio. A faint smile played on her lips, which moved in something that almost seemed to be a silent greeting. Or maybe one that simply did not have true words. She averted her eyes respectfully from the creature soon after, for in her mind, it was esteemed as much as it's master.

Her attention switched to another target, one that didn't recieve half the respect that the Professor's pet did. A firstie. Or rather, two of them who between eachother had just caused a good deal of trouble. As a result of the younger student's presumptious seating, two of her own friends had lost their positions of two years. The seatless girls threw appealing looks at Ada, as if she was supposed to do something.

She turned towards the younger girls: not only had they stolen their seats, but they weren't even Slytherin. Her nose wrinkled, Now this won't do at all... and with movements as lethargic yet graceful as a snake;s she rose from her seat and approached the firsties.

"My dears," She began, drawling in her most condensending manner. Blue eyes sparkled with concern and innocence, and her lips curled into a small smile as she leaned one white-gloved hand on the first girl's desk.

"I'm sorry to inform you that there's a bit of a problem. You see... those are our seats. And if it wouldn't be horribly inconvenient, would you mind scooting a few over, just to be you know... friendly? After all, we wouldn't want there to be a problem, would we?" The words where all in the form of a request, one so polite and almost shy that one could hardly refuse it. But in her eyes, a strange confidence glowed: nobody took her seats.

She glanced around briefly as she spoke, as if making sure that she was being back ed up by others. And she was, a few of the girls her age had come to stand closer to her, multiple heads nodded in agreement as she spoke. But in truth, it was not her classmates' endorsment that she sought, rather, she was glancing about for signs of the professor. She didn't believe he'd do anything to stop her from reclaiming those poor seats, but still... he was unpredictable. She smiled slightly at the thought, and her face tilted ever so subtly towards the serpent.

"My dears,"

Evee turned her head at the appearance of a voice; she had not been paying attention and hadn't noticed the Slytherin girls make their entry. She watched the young girl in front of her, from the way she spoke it was obvious she was at least two years older and something about her almost seemed......malfoyish. This must be the Malfoy girl Evee had heard about, so this is Adalisa.

Evee caught her friend’s movements from the corner of her eye, the girl seemed a bit hesitant. If she remembered correctly the girl once told her that the Slytherins frightened her and above all else the Malfoys most of all, her friend was a muggle born after all. Evee's attention returned to the supposed Malfoy girl as she began to speak again. A problem...our seats...inconvenient...scooting over...friendly! Evee's brows rose when the girl finished her lengthy request when move over summed it all up.

Evee watched her friend stand up and move to the back of the room rather quickly and then nothing more from her. It was fine by her, she didn't want her friend involved but there was not a chance of this Gryffindor backing down. She slowly let an amused smile slide on too her face as she turned to face the girl laying an arm upon the desk and showing no signs of moving.

"My apologies for the troubles I have caused but...I'm rather comfortable in this seat so your friends will just have to sit else where today and try to get here early tomorrow."

Evee's eyes reverted to Adalisa's friends for a moment before she turned away with a smile; she wasn't one to be scared away easily. She had dealt with worse on the streets; she could handle some spoiled little girls. Evee glanced once back at her friend before turning her attention to the snake but also keeping an eye on the Slytherin girls next to her.

Ada's lips pursed in an expression of unmistakable displeasure, and she sniffed daintily before spinning around and returning to her seat. She was by no means going to start a confontation in the class her favorite professor ran, but there where... other, ways of getting what she wished for. Settling back into her own, seat she couldn't help but sneer in the direction of the uppity Gryffindor first year. The brat didn't know what she was getting herself into.

As for the other girl, the one who had moved. She recieved an utterly honeyed and grateful smile. Perhaps there was something diturbing about the expression directed to the one who had given up her seat... but, nobody could really pinpoint it. Ada jerked her heads towards one of the now empty seats and the girl in her group who's it was sat down promptly. Incidentally, she was a rather intimidating, big-boned creatures, who's unladylike heavy breathing would probobly be bothering the first-year before her all class.

As for Ada, she settled back down with the air that nothing had ever happened. An elegant ebony quill with acid-green designs running it's length, and a similarly decorated inkwell appeared from her bag. Accompanying them on her desk, sat a thick notebook that was already half full: from the last two years' notes. Of course, the notebook would probobly never really run out of room, as it was spelled not to.

As she flipped open the notebook, and positioned her text-book on the other side of her desk, Ada briefly lifted her eyes to make contact with the snake. Behind a cool exterior anger was boiliing. Did you see that?! She seemed to be yelling as she met it's eyes. You know very well that's my seat. But of course, nothing like this was heard across the classrroom. She was close enough to the creature that all the keenest observer might have noticed would be a faint hiss, one that oucld easily be imagined, escaping the young girl's lips.

Here was yet another lesson that Maira hated. Not that she couldn't do the subject, but it wasn't the type that made her bubble with excitement and have eyes wide with eagarness. Actually, quite the opposite. It had been her next stop after being in the library, and the walk from there had been taken slowly, but not so slow enough to be late for the lesson, with surprisingly minutes to spare.

The only reason why she stuck this lesson the way she did was because of two small things. One because being a Healer was the most important thing in her life and having Potions would help her on the way to her dream and two because she was still in her third year and even if she didn't have to use Potions, she wouldn't be able to change until at least her sixth year and that was ages away.

Eyes caught sight of where Professor Slytherin should've been, but wasn't...thankfully. He was the most creepiest man she had ever had the displeasure to meet. This definitely had to be his domain, though saying that Maira was pretty sure that she wouldn't want to meet this man in a dark alley.

Voices reached her, and she instantly recognised her friends, Evee and Ada talking, all mostly arguing. Oh dear. This was what she as a Hufflepuff hated. She liked both people, Slytherin and Gryffindor, but it was obvious (thanks to their lovely Potions Master) that they wouldn't ever like each other because of the House and blood problems. Taking a deep breath, Maira walked into the classroom, smiling at Evee, but keeping her eyes on Ada to see what she was thinking. They had only really just met in the library, but there was something there that could be considered friendly if Ada kept her opinions to herself.

"What's going on here then?" she muttered to Evee, sitting not where the Malfoy normally sit on her place near the back, a table away. "I come in and it looks like you're both wanting to rip each other's heads off!"

Evee's smile widen as she watched the Malfoy girl storm back to her seat aggravated or so it seemed but, who really knew. She meant no harm but she wasn’t about to give up her seat just so the Slytherin could have her way. It was this attitude that the Slytherins showed that annoyed Evee intensely, why they had to fuss so much over something simple as a seat. Her eyes left the pampered creature known as Malfoy, no point staring and making the situation worse.

She was aware that her actions might cause trouble for her and that from what she heard, messing with the Malfoys was like messing with death. It was too late now and she liked to shake things up, the princess snot had probably been getting her way long enough. It was time for her to learn that not everyone is going to bow down and kiss her feet, yes, it would be a long year indeed.

Ignoring the snake girl behind her she turned her eyes to the hufflepuff Maria who had now entered. Evee really liked Maria; she was a very nice girl and fun to talk too. She flashed her friend a smile and then listened in as she whispered her inquiry about the scene earlier. Evee leaned to the side to whisper back to the girl a smile plastered on her lips.

"She's sore cause I wouldn't give up my seat to one of her friends, nothing too bad but who knows. How have you been Maria? Fairing well I hope."

A ever-so-unsubtle glare was directed towards the first year who'd been bold enough to anger Ada, and then her attention was back to the front of the class. Now that there where others around, good behavior was mandatory: things would get better in a bit. A bad-tempered, but blank stare towards the front of the room followed this conclusion, and almost absently, she shredded a piece of parchment on her desk.

Glancing up only to make eye-contact with the snake, Ada kept her eyes stubbornly lowered. This class was not exactly her prime, populated mostly by immature brats. *Cough* Griffie firsties *cough*. She sniffed delicately, and so as to make use of her time dipped her quill carefully into the stationary inkwell. Twirling the feather gently between her fingers, she continued her rather mindless staring, waitint for the professor to come in.
