Far Cry is undoubtedly the definitive first-person shooter. Jack Carver is a photographer ready for a great time on a tropical island when mercenaries attack his boat. Now Jack has nothing but his wits, a gun, and the help of a mysterious man named Doyle, talking over a cellular phone. The graphics in Far Cry are mind-blowing, if you have the rig to run it. My Radeon X1600 Pro allowed me to crank the graphics up to the max, and my Athlon 1.6 Ghz processor ran the game with moderate load times and just a few instances of clipping. Moving shadows, reflective water, and shiny metal surfaces were all present, along with realistic facial and body animations. The gameplay is also very good, with the ruthless enemy AI being the highlight. Enemies will call for reinforcements, fire blindly into your cover, and exhibit defensive tactics, all motion captured. All of the weapons sound and feel different, with varying kickback and such, and control was responsive. Be warned: Even on lower difficulty levels, this game will push your skills to the breaking point. A mere half hour into the game, I was on top of a wrecked carrier ship, being assaulted by a helicopter and ten mercenaries. But Far Cry is now the best FPS I have ever played in my life, and one of the best games I've played this year.
97% A Rated M (blood, intense violence) It is worth noting that the blood can be disabled, significantly lowering the level of violence. PG-13 level swearing appears, along with mild sexual innuendo. |

The minimum requirement is an ATI Radeon 8500. It won't look too good, but it'll run. It needs at least a 1GHz processor and 256 MB RAM.
However, I would recommend something considerably stronger. |

Yeah. It won't look fantastic, but it won't look bad either. Anyway, the real fun is in the AI. I should also add that it if you plan on getting it, I would advise doing so soon. It retails for about $20 now at gaming stores.
