i am going to take a few guesses as to why this forum and website were not supported.
as i understood this board and website when i signed up in june -- this was going to be a joint effort to bring together the hockey community of hartford, specifiically, and in connecticut, in general. laudable goals. but this is where the goals break down. the hwbc has no interest in cooperating with anyone who does not see the world through green tinted glasses. secondly, people, like me, who liked the whalers but have chosen to support the ahl hockey in town, and in fact, enjoy it, are seen as the enemy. many of the wolf-pack fans are former whalers fans. we find no kindship with a group of people who treat us like crap. thirdly, this site which seeks to merge the various hockey communities is dominated by the color green and whaler logos. it seems to me that if this place was working to build a good relationship among the groups -- one group's colors would not dominate. in fact, in this forum, the pack, who are an active team, playing actual games, and have real time news, do not even rate their own forum category. while the whalers, an inactive team, rates their own forum heading. this in not going to attract any sort of loyalty to this site from the wolf pack and ahl fans. the goal of this forum and attempt, were great but the execution was not good. some reasons could be controlled, other not. thank you for the effort |

I agree with some of your points. This site can be for hockey in general in Hartford. The whalers logo represent our desire to have the NHL back and to have the new team with the whaler name...if posiible.
I have to say having a thread for the pack would be a good idea if the two groups could get along but after seeing the collapse of the HWBC board , I don't think thats possible. The pack I believe have their own board anyway This board should be just what it was intended for ....the return of the NHL. This was to be a grass roots effort to get the momentum going and I hope it can continue and I truly believe it can catch on. |

I'am a fan of both the Whale and the Wolfpack and would be ok with a Wolfpack forum. It would actually stimulate more conversation because they as you say are actively a team that is playing real games. It might also help the non belivers to understand what great hockey they have been missing. As a Pack fan, I have witnessed the development of one of the NHL's best playmakers (Marc Savard), and many other player s that have made it to the NHL. Including opponents of the local team such as Daiel Briere whom came up with Springfied and is now the top center for the Flyers. Growing up as a kid if the Whale was on the road or had the night off, we often went up to Springfield to watch the Indians just because we loved the game and it was cool to see future stars of the NHL.
Personally I 'am very disappointed with the negativity between many of the Whaler and Pack fans. I thought and hoped we as a community had more class than we have exibited. I think this rift between Pack and Whaler fans although not shared by everybody has certainly hurt our chances and crediblity as a NHL market. I enjoy the Pack but their is no question I would prefer to have the Whalers back in town. I just hope that if we ever do get an NHL team back that the pricees will be affordable for all fans whom want to attend their games. |
