Title: Group Build
Lux - November 19, 2008 10:03 PM (GMT)
hey peeps,
as we have more people on the forums now i was thinking of starting a group build, what we do is:
pick a gundam show
pick a kit from that show
do a work in progress (WIP)
at the end date everyone posts their final kit
im not sure how long to let the build go on for, im thinking about a month due to not everyone being able to build all the time and we want these looking their best.
you can mod build and paint as much as you like at any grade you wish as long as you show your progress on the forum.
now lets get some feed back and some kit ideas.
Wing-Zero - November 19, 2008 10:12 PM (GMT)
sounds cool im up for it...if you lets us no in a month in advance that atleast give people time to buy the model (although some may want to start early but we all good people here)...then the following month give time to build and customise...but saying that im not very good at that stuff i just build them stick on the decals/stickers and pose em....
StarGazer - November 19, 2008 10:50 PM (GMT)
This sounds like an awesome idea, although i'll need to learn how to paint them.
Demon lord of L5, odenst - November 20, 2008 12:08 AM (GMT)
Sounds great I'll give it a try even though I am a complete novice due to I have only done 1 kit yet and that was my SD Exia
Lux - November 20, 2008 07:00 AM (GMT)
im glad to see everyone so far is upfor it,
a months notice is a good idea, gives us time to think about which mecha to pick etc
id say dont worry about things like painting if you dont want to but i think it would be a good way to learn, after you put some pictures of the WIP you can then ask about what people think of it and what could be better ect
in genral id say this a good way for every one to pick up some new skills and we can add things to tips bit of the forum.
as for the show i was thinking starting with 00 as its new and theres some very good lower grade kits out there on the cheap, ideas?
Wing-Zero - November 20, 2008 08:56 AM (GMT)
im all for it i already have a 1/60Exia and Exia trans-am with GNArms...but iv had my eye on the Over Flag and Gundam Virtue
G-man - November 20, 2008 01:41 PM (GMT)
Hmmm good idea Lux, bout time we did something like this, well if you give me a fair bit of notice i can try and wrangle up the kits you choose and let the forum group get them at a lower price than usual (if they want it from me of course:P). Always worth having stuff cheaper i think:) 00 Sounds good, i know i could get us all a very good deal on the Ali al-sachez enact in future, maybe even around the £8 mark. but it should be around favourite kit to build really not, price. . . . hmmm, my vote is for tieren space commander type, it's a odd build and looks unique to make, plus there's less liklihood of other people of having already built it.

I was actually thinking of buying this yesterday, so that could be an awesome one. Im a big fan of tierens in general, got my friend to pick me the ground type one up from china a few months ago.
Demo - November 20, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
While I like 00 a lot, if I'm honest I'm not a real fan of any of the actual Gundams in it (except perhaps the virtue, fat gundam!). I'd be happy to make one of the mass production suits from the series though. I'll have to have a look and see what's available.
Oh yeah, and this is a cool idea, good way to keep the forum community interacting.
StarGazer - November 20, 2008 04:20 PM (GMT)
Also if anyone was wondering:

Im pretty sure this is the one G is talking about.
Demo - November 20, 2008 04:56 PM (GMT)
That looks like a pretty nice kit. I'm tempted to do a land unit though, try out a camo paint job :D
Lux - November 20, 2008 05:58 PM (GMT)
just to clear some stuff up (mostly G getting the wrong idea i think) the idea is to pick any kit you want from a show not all the same kit.
i like the camo idea demo good thinking,
so far im planning to start this on the 1st of Dec and deadline it on the 31st of Jan.
thats two months to make sure every one has time to get things over the xmas preiod
im willing to put up a small kit as a prize if like that idea.
if every one is ok with this ill add a new area on the forum for group build so you can each do your own thead for your WIPs and the final pictures can be hosted there.
ill also post some rules and guide lines there as well
ideas?
Demon lord of L5, odenst - November 20, 2008 06:16 PM (GMT)
In comparing the different models we'll have to take into consideration scale and grade
StarGazer - November 20, 2008 06:17 PM (GMT)
Oh that sounds awesome too. Maybe we could have two group build thingies, one where we build individual kits and another well we all build the same kit.
Wing-Zero - November 20, 2008 06:20 PM (GMT)
this all sounds good id like to see everyone doing the same suit as it would be intresting to see the different colour schemes...although seeing all different 00 models with custom jobs sounds pretty cool to...im game either way
Demo - November 20, 2008 06:27 PM (GMT)
Hye G-man, any chance of getting a Tieren Ground Type in? The site says out of stock, and I think if I were to do a 00 kit that would be the one.

If he can you should maybe try get the 1:100 one cause i have both of them (the 1:144 and 1:100) and i dunno why but the 1:100 one just seems to look better in general.
G-man - November 20, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
I already have the 1/100 in stock, just haven't put it online yet, been sort of busy getting stuff ready for Memoribilia this weeked, but yeah it's easy to get hold of any kits usually and i have 2 tieren 1/100 with me right now. Also have the space commander type and the sadly coloured taozi :P Sorry Lux i did get confused though i agree that both forms of modelling would be a good idea. Hmmm maybe i can get come dead cheap kits (less than a fiver) and sort out an identical comparison build sometime down the line?

If that is the pink one i may have to buy it just because my Ground type needs a girlfriend.
Lux - November 20, 2008 06:42 PM (GMT)
building the same kit would be fun but as it takes more time to fine some where to get the same kits from i think we should leave it till next time.
im more the happy to use 1/144 or 1/100 so it should be a group vote on size
StarGazer - November 20, 2008 06:49 PM (GMT)
Either would be great maybe we should make a suggestions thread for what people think we could make (or we could do it here).

You realise the forum is off GundamNation . . . anything we vote for i would get in specifically for the build??? But i agree, that would require more planning and time. My vote goes for 1/144, mainly for cost and detailing fun.
Genese Gundam - November 20, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
Sounds like an interesting idea... Perhaps it should be divided up into a few categories. Like Factions-those who voted for *X* build kits from *X* side while those for *Y*... It might make it sligtly easier to plan...
Demo - November 20, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
Personally, I would much prefer a 1:100 kit, I find they tend to be better in quality, and the kits are more fun to build.
And G-man, as we discussed on the phone, if you could keep a 1:100 Tieren Ground Type aside for me that'd be awesome.
G-man - November 20, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
No Problem Demo:), I agree 1/100 kits are generally more fun, was focusing on what everyone's budget was really. But to be fair would we all need to do the same scale etc. if we do the same kit later down the line, then it won't matter what we go for now. Perhaps we could simply just pick something we want to build and show it to the other members, that way some people who are just starting out can pick simpler stuff and those of us with more experience can pick some more complex projects. This way the info and processes we use and demonstrate could be used to guide and help others and this is a really good way to exchange ideas, tips n tricks. I think lux is onto something, maybe we could just set a date to announce what kit your building then even if some people pick the exact same kit, it'll be interesting to see what the different versions are like and if not, it would be good to compare FG modding techniques against MG modding/painting etc. What do you guys think?
Lux - November 20, 2008 07:47 PM (GMT)
i think this isnt going to be a one off thing, so all these ideas can be used later down line :D
i think lets for this one keep to the 00 theme, any grade, any size, any mecha.
StarGazer - November 20, 2008 07:49 PM (GMT)
So the theme for the first Group is 00 awesome, now to pick a gundam :D
G-man - November 20, 2008 07:59 PM (GMT)
Fair enough, though sadly that rules out any MG kits, but your right lux we can always try again later. I'll stick to my original proposal and pick the 1/144 Tieren Space Commander Type as my kit to build:) Gonna stick it online after this weekend also if anyone else wants one:)
StarGazer - November 20, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
Hmm what other 00 kits you got back there :o
Ima need to get some advice on customising my gundams, i've never done it before.
G-man - November 20, 2008 08:14 PM (GMT)
Sadly not many more, mostly whats left on the site, the 1/100 Dynames and Kyrios is available aplently and i have some 1/100 Astrae's to put online and the tieren's. That's about it really, i spent most my funds on getting in the macross and gurren lagaan kits. As for modding etc. i've done a little but Lux is the man, he's done more than me and is pretty handy when it comes to the tips side of things but i'm sure we'll both be happy to help. PM us if you have any specific questions.
StarGazer - November 20, 2008 09:23 PM (GMT)
Im slightly confused are we allowed to do 1:100 kits or are we sticking to 1:144
Demo - November 20, 2008 09:25 PM (GMT)
Any scale kit you want dude, so long as its from Gundamm 00.
StarGazer - November 20, 2008 09:38 PM (GMT)
Mmmm now i gotta make some money. Im thinking of the 1/100 Gundam Kyrios, now to think of some ways to customise it.
Lux - November 20, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
if the times not good for people money wise we could put it back abit.
Wing-Zero - November 22, 2008 12:04 AM (GMT)
For me im fine either way...if we're doing the same suit id like them to be 1/100...and if we're doin different them imma get a over flag
