Every person goes through a moment in their life when they have to come to a decision that could make or break their lives. It could be where someone decides to put his or her personal relationship over their career or vice versa, when a person has to make the ultimate sacrifice for their job. Either way, every decision we make comes with a price. From experiences, the only solution to the problems at hand comes at how you face it. Ask yourself the question at hand. Is the sacrifice worth it in the end? Island Medical Clinic Days before Killer Instinct V There had been a lot going on in the life of Jimmy Helmsley over the past couple of weeks. Chris Rollz had humiliated him on numbers of occasions along with losing a chance at winning the Killer Instinct tournament. While he had gotten some measure of revenge, it still wasn’t enough for him. On the personal side, it was a little bit brighter. He had managed to smooth things over with Rachel after the whole Charisma fiasco. He explained everything and luckily for him, she forgave him for not telling her the truth. Still, he wanted their relationship to grow, so a few nights ago at dinner; Jimmy wanted to have a little fun. He had made a bet with Rachel wondering whose job was more stressful: a doctor or a wrestler. After constant begging, she finally agreed to let Jimmy shadow her during her shift tonight. Jimmy honestly believed that his job brought more stress to his life than Rachel’s career did to hers. We would see in the next couple of hours. Rachel Cohen:: Where the hell is Jimmy? I wouldn’t have agreed to this little shindig if I knew he was going to make me fall behind. Along with Rachel was her intern, Sean. Even though he was an intern, she liked to treat him with a little bit of respect. Rachel Cohen:: Hold this coffee for me Sean. She handed him the coffee without one of the holders on it and his eyes lit up with anguish. She begins walking towards one of the patients rooms while he placed it on the counter and whimpered for a little bit. Rachel Cohen:: I don’t have all day. Sean followed her into the room as they were met with a slightly overweight African-American male lying in the bed. Rachel Cohen:: Alright Sean, what are we dealing with here? Sean looked down at his chart and then back up at the patient. Sean: Bryan Jackson was admitted with a severe case of pneumonia along with complaints of headaches and lower abdominal pain. I’ve run several tests and everything seems to be looking good.[/color] Rachel Cohen:: All right, everything does look good from the test. Mr. Johnson, we are going to keep you around a few more days though, you still have a little bit of recovering to do. The patient wasn’t paying any attention, however, as he had his eyes on the door where Jimmy Helmsley stood there with a doctor’s jacket on along with a stethoscope. Rachel Cohen:: Oh you have got to be kidding me. She drags Jimmy by the arm as they exit the room for a moment. Rachel Cohen:: I wouldn’t have agreed to this if you weren’t going to be taking any of this serious. Jimmy Helmsley: Whoa babe, calm down. I just wanted to look the role. I figured I would need to look like a doctor to walk around this place with you. Rachel Cohen:: You look like an idiot. Jimmy Helmsley::[/b]Don’t you have patients to attend too? They both look through the window of the room looking at the patient, but Jimmy takes an even closer look at the man lying in the bed. It may just be because of his match coming up tomorrow, but he couldn’t help himself but look in the bed and imagine that it was Chris Rollz himself. Rachel Cohen: Are you coming? Jimmy snapped out of his little trance and followed Rachel into the patient’s room. Rachel Cohen:: Bryan Johnson this is…. Bryan would go on to finish her words…. Bryan Johnson:Jimmy Helmsley! Rachel looked back at Jimmy before looking back at the patient. Rachel Cohen:: I guess you’ve heard of him. Bryan Johnson:: Oh yeah I’ve heard of him. This guy is taking on my main man Rollz tomorrow night! Rachel Cohen:: Fascinating…. Bryan, let me know if I can do anything for you. I’ll be out here. Bryan Johnson:: Sure thing doc. Rachel leaves the room followed by Sean as Jimmy stays behind for a second. Jimmy Helmsley:: Rollz fan uh? You must be sick. Bryan Johnson:: Don’t hate homie. I been running with Rollz since his early days in the UiWF. Jimmy Helmsley:: No hate coming from me. Everyone has their favorite wrestlers… just know yours won’t be holding anymore championships after tomorrow night. They both begin laughing for a second as Jimmy takes a seat next to Bryan’s bed. Jimmy Helmsley:: I cannot tell you how many times I have wished I could be looking at this business from the fan’s perspective. There’s no pressure to watch your back or anything like that. At one point in my career I probably wouldn’t even talk to you for liking an opponent of mine. Bryan Johnson:: I remember those days son… you’ve done some major growing up since then. I respect that. Jimmy Helmsley:: I appreciate that. I just want life to be simple again. If I’m perfectly honest, I still don’t even know why your boy Rollz hates my guts. It was business back in the day. He knows that. I know that. Suddenly, everything goes personal and I keep getting bashed in the head week to week with different objects. I guess everything can’t be perfect. Bryan Johnson:: No disrespect to you or anything, but you gotta look at it from Rollz angle. In his eyes, you abandoned him. You fucked him over. Everything went from business to personal as soon as that happen. It doesn’t matter if you did it on purpose or not. Some people just take things certain ways and unfortunately for you, Rollz took it by bashing your skull in. Jimmy couldn’t help but laugh for a second. He was having a conversation with a major Chris Rollz fan, even taking snide comments here and there. Jimmy Helmsley:: I just want everything to go back to normal. I miss normal. I get what you are saying though. Everyone has their own agenda. Jimmy was going to say something else, but he noticed that something seemed to be wrong with Bryan. Jimmy Helmsley:: Hey Rachel, you might want to come in here for a second? Not a second later, Rachel entered the room and walked over to Bryan’s side. Bryan Johnson:: It’s my head. It seems like I just got my brain bashed in. Rachel begin checking his blood pressure and noticed a significant rise. Jimmy watched from the side as she injected in with some type of sedative that seemed to help the pain ease down. Rachel Cohen:: We are going to order you an MRI and make sure everything is alright. Bryan Johnson:: Thanks doc. Rachel left the room again, this tiem, followed by Jimmy. Jimmy Helmsley:: What do you think is wrong with him? He was fine for a second, then all of the suddenly he begin thriving in pain. Rachel Cohen:: We won’t know until he has an MRI, but hopefully it’s just a bad side effect from his pneumonia. Jimmy watched as Sean wheeled Bryan to get his MRI done as Rachel was looking down at some other charts. Jimmy Helmsley:: He’s a good guy. Horrible taste in wrestlers, but a good guy. Rachel Cohen:: Who? Jimmy Helmsley:: Bryan. I talked with him for a few minutes, seemed all around besides his like for Rollz. Rachel Cohen:: Yeah, he’s in here every six months or so. I haven’t quite figured out what’s wrong with him though. I feel bad for him though. He does a lot of charity work and donates so much of his time handing out food at shelters. It just makes me question things. Jimmy Helmsley:: What do you mean? Rachel Cohen:: I have people in here week in and week out simply trying to score drugs, yet they are just fine outside their addiction. Then you have Bryan, a great guy who helps people and he’s the one with a possible serious case. I just don’t get it. Jimmy Helmsley:: Yeah, I’ve always questioned myself on how this world work’s sometimes. Rachel looked as if she didn’t want to really talk about it anymore, so Jimmy slowly backed away from it. Jimmy Helmsley:: Are you coming to the show tomorrow night? Rachel Cohen:: Unfortunately not. It seems like I’m the only doctor that actually does any work around here, so I’m the doctor on call tomorrow night. I’ll be watching though. Rachel leaned him and kissed Jimmy before walking away, but Jimmy called her out for a second. Jimmy Helmsley:: Do you think we’ll always be doing what we are doing? Rachel turned around and just looked at him before another doctor caught her attention and she had to take care of something. Jimmy just took a seat at a desk and just stared at the empty room where Bryan had been just a few minutes. He had only been in the hospital for around thirty minutes and was already bummed out. He couldn’t help but wonder how Rachel handled it. 2 HOURS LATER Jimmy had been following Rachel around for most of the day and it was getting into the night. He had seen his fair share of people tonight, but he was glad that he was about to get a break. Rachel was about to get Bryan’s test results back and Jimmy wanted to be around for when she figured out what was wrong with him. Rachel Cohen:: I sure wish some money had been on the line. Jimmy Helmsley:: Uh? Rachel Cohen:: The bet? Because clearly I have won it. I’ve been watching you Jimmy. You can’t fool me. Someone hates it here and that person is you. Jimmy let out a small smile. Jimmy Helmsley:: I never realized how stressful just being in a hospital can be. I thought it was just like on television and that you walk around and people are having love spats and what not. I just wanted some entertainment. Rachel Cohen:: Have I ever told you that you’re an idiot? Jimmy Helmsley:: Actually you have. Rachel Cohen:: Leave. I’ll see you later tonight. Jimmy Helmsley:: I want to stay and see Bryan’s test results. Rachel seemed somewhat impressed that Jimmy actually cared about one of her patients and they begin heading back to his room where they would get the results. Jimmy headed in first while Rachel waited on the results. Bryan Johnson:: Yo man, I forgot to ask earlier, but are you hitting Dr. Cohen? Because that would give you major props. Jimmy Helmsley:: This is definitely not the place to be talking about that. Could you imagine what would happen if she knew what we were talking about? Bryan Johnson:: Oh come on man, help a sick person out here. Rachel entered the room as soon as Bryan finished speaking and Jimmy quickly silenced himself from saying anything. Rachel Cohen:: Jimmy, could you step outside for a second? I need to talk to Bryan alone. As soon as she said that, Jimmy knew that it wasn’t good news. He looked over at Bryan before heading towards the door. Bryan Johnson:: He can stay. Just tell me what’s wrong. Jimmy stopped at the door before turning around and looking at Rachel for an ok or anything like that. Rachel Cohen:: Bryan, I don’t know any other way to say this, but you have a tumor lodged into your brain. All of the smiles and laughter that had been in the room earlier were completely gone. Rachel Cohen:: It’s gotten larger and apparently it has been around for a long time, but it was just too small for our cameras to see. Bryan Johnson:: Is it treatable? Rachel Cohen:: I’m going to bring in one of our neurological surgeons and he is going to explain to you your options. I’m really sorry Bryan that I didn’t find it sooner. Bryan Johnson:: It’s no problem doc. I appreciate everything you have done for me. I’ve grown up to believe that everything happens for a reason, so let’s just hope what happens next is a good thing. Rachel Cohen:: I’m going to do whatever I can to make sure that does happen. If you need anything, just page me. I’ll be around. Rachel had to go take care of a few things while Jimmy stood in the corner of the room. Jimmy Helmsley:: I’m really sorry Bryan. I wish there was something I can do. Bryan Johnson:: It happen man. There’s nothing either of us can do about it. We can’t all control our fate. Good luck tomorrow night against Rollz… you are going to need it. Jimmy couldn’t help but smile and nod. He got up from his chair and headed towards the door. Jimmy Helmsley:: It was nice to meet you Bryan. And to answer your question earlier, yeah… Bryan laughed and applauded. Bryan Johnson:: Keep up the good work. Jimmy exited the room and walked over to where Rachel was sitting doing paperwork and took a seat next to her. He placed his hand over her hand as she looked at him. Rachel Cohen:: I don’t know about me, but definitely for you. Jimmy was slightly confused. Jimmy Helmsley:: Excuse me? Rachel Cohen:: You asked me earlier if we’d always be doing what we are doing. You will. Every time I see you wrestling, training, whatever you have to do for that business, and you are enjoying every single minute of it. It’s something you live for Jimmy. As for me, I don’t know. I don’t know how much longer I can handle giving people bad news and handling the expressions on their face. I think if I’m every lucky enough to have a family and be financially stable, I think I’d walk away and never look back. Jimmy Helmsley:: You did good work today Rachel. I’ve been walking around with you all day and you have done your absolute best to make sure your patients have the best care. You’re a great doctor and nobody could have better. Rachel Cohen:: Sometime’s being a great doctor isn’t enough…. And before she could continue, the code begin beeping as many nurses begin running into Bryan’s room. Rachel rushed in behind them as Jimmy stood at the window. They were doing everything that they could for him. Rachel begin reaching for the paddles. Rachel Cohen:: Charging now! Nothing. Rachel Cohen:: Again! Nothing. Rachel Cohen:: Come on Bryan, don’t give up like this. Charging again! Just like the two times before, there was no response. Rachel threw the charges against the wall before looking up at the clock. Rachel Cohen:: Time of death, 6:43 P.M. Rachel begin walking out of the room right past Jimmy. Jimmy Helmsley:: I’m sorry Rachel. She looked back at him with a shed of tears in her eyes. Rachel Cohen:: Me too. She walked away as Jimmy turned around and looked back at Bryan. He had only known him today, yet he had been one of the better men he had met in a long time. He tried showing Jimmy that people do things for different reasons. Still, as Jimmy looked at him lying in the bed motionless, he couldn’t help but imagine Chris Rollz in that position as if he were the one lying their dead. Jimmy didn’t want to think like that, but it was something he couldn’t control right now. Jimmy had vowed revenge on Rollz at Killer Instinct V and wasn’t going to let up until he had finished him off for good. Jimmy Helmsley:: Everyone has their reasons…. It’s funny how looking through someone else’s eyes can change your outlook on so many things. It could change the way you think of other people or even make you take a long hard look at yourself. Are you doing the right thing? Are you following the right path? Sometimes looking through the eyes of others can answer all those questions and more. -------------------- ![]() |
