Victor as you've never seen him before
(Posted Image) Here are two reviews from the play in 1972. "One feels that the cast is celebrating the performances of Victor Garber...It has been a mainstay of the evening. Singing, cavorting, admonishing the other kids, driving the message home with humor and simplicity. Garber is as impressive as he is ingratiating." "Garber, an intelligent performer...didn't have the over-awareness of his own talent which tripped up almost everybody else." (Posted Image) (Posted Image) (Posted Image) I love the singing and dancing :weiss: Costumes and makeup give me a headache  |

I have loved "Godspell" since I saw it onstage when was 13 years old, long before I ever heard of Victor Garber. I can sing all the songs. Too bad I never saw that legendary Toronto staging with Victor in it. I knew there was a film version, but never got to see it until it was finally released on video not long before Victor started "Alias." The costumes, hair, and all that don't bother me -- I remember the era! I have seen photos from more recent productions, with more modern costumes and hair, and they look interesting.

There was a time when I found Victor's hair, makeup and dress, in this movie, to be beyond odd, but now I am so use to it that it seems perfectly normal.

The 70s hairstyle and clothes always makes me laugh  They just looked so ridiculous.
Victor was so skinny back then. I'm glad that he put on weight. |

I haven't seen this since I was in college. It was on at the school's (cheap) movie night. I recall that I found that the movie was odd. We used to play the music from Godspell in high school band class, so I wanted to see the movie in college a few years later. Ha! That was before they had VCRs. |

I first saw Godspell after I had seen Titanic in the theatre 9 times. The movie happened to be on Cinemax and when I saw Victor I decided to check it out.
Amy (filmlover) and a few of you know what my initial reaction to Victor in this movie was. :neener: |

It was indeed. But after seeing him as Thomas Andrews 9 times and then seeing him in Godspell was a :yikes: for me. I found it hard to believe that it was Victor at first. But I've grown up alot since I first saw that movie at age 12.

Yeah, I can see how it can be a shock when you see Victor in Titanic and then see him in Godspell. He bulked up a lot in between those 2 periods.

Those of you coming to NYC in May should try to get to Lincoln Center to see where they filmed more than a few scenes from the movie. :P

I know you would! :D Lincoln Center is just a few short blocks away from the HOLIDAY INN where a lot of these Victor-fans will be staying. :) |

I would love to stop by the Lincoln Center, so hopefully I'll be able to.
Ok, so those who saw the Making of Godspell, I don't remember but did you say it was winter when they filmed it? Or it was really cold or something? I was imagining how cold Victor had to have been during the fountain scene in just his shorts. |

He has a jacket on in one scene. It looks like Autumn.

Yeah that was me to, to go from Jack Bristow to Godspell was scary indeed, although I think I had MITA Victor first, which actually may be more  when you think about it |
