Bwa ha ha! that is hilarious!

B, that kind of shower is a larger than usual stall with three sides and a shower curtain that you can roll your wheelchair into. Then you transfer to a little fold- down seat and the controls are within reach. They are quite roomy and nicer than the usual stall. There probably isn't a bathtub with it unless it's a faboo place and they have a stall AND a tub.

Betty, you are not so far off...the first time I went to England, when we got to London at the end of the trip, we stayed at a big 20 story tourist hotel at Picadilly Circus. I was shocked that they had two bathrooms on the floor! We had a sink in our room, but there were common bathrooms with several stalls on either end of the floor, one with a shower and one with a tub! Needless to say I enjoyed sponge baths every day! It was kinda comical though to traipse down the hall in the middle of the night and pass others in their pj's coming back from a trip to the bathroom.

The last several times I've gone, I've flown in to LaGuardia and that's worked well. Did you say you and your neice are likely to go Thursday and return Sunday? I think that's my plan. Knoxville seldom has direct flights. I usually have to go thru Atlanta, Charlotte, or Washington. The nice thing about Washington is that they have hourly flights to NYC, so lots of choices. Then I usually take the Super Shuttle into the city, delivered to your hotel. If you guys make your reservations, let me know and I'll see if I can match up a flight to go thru Charlotte, if it's best cost wise and time wise.

Sending you a pm also.

Good grief! Would everybody please get off of the bathroom thing? I'm sorry I brought it up.

Anyway, Spying On Jack, unfortunately, my niece, and I will only be staying 2 nights. I'd rather arrive on Thurs., but she only agreed to Fri.-Sat., depart on Sunday. It will be another short-rushed trip, just like I felt the Boston trip was. But we will make the most of our time, I hope.

She also, now, is saying that she had rather fly out of Greensboro, for convenience, (close to her home). It will be a little more expensive. I leave the best pricing up to her.

About the hotels, didn't someone post earlier another Holiday Inn Express that was at 15 West 45th Street? I prefer as early a check-in time, as possible. Especially, since my stay will be so short. They may not allow early check-in.
Do ya'll usually ask for 2 seperate rooms when booking 3-4 persons?

It's not a must, but I would surely love a room with a small fridge, to keep a cold drink. But the price to have one, or to have one rolled in, would probably be out of the question in NYC.

You could fill the sink with ice from the ice machine, if the ice bucket doesn't keep the drinks cold overnight. Be imaginative: if the waste basket is plastic, it can hold a lot of ice too.

Thanks SIO, on the helpful tips about the ice. But, praytell, what would I do if I had to get up in the middle of the night, (to use the "chamber pot")? I would still have to wash my hands over the sink.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist that. But we will come up with something, if we don't have an icebox. The maid will probably wonder, "What in the Sam Hill are these people trying to do?" BUt I'm sure she has seen it all before.

I might bring my own plastic bag, if I can fit one into, what I'm sure will already be, an overstuffed carry on.

Betty, regarding early check in... If you can't get into your room and you want to explore the city, all you have to do is leave your bags with the bell captain.

And.. if the scenario came up that you had a sink full of ice, and needed to wash your hands, you could wash them in the tub.

You seem to have a fixation. :ponder:

As Toria surmised, you could wash your hands in the bathtub if you are using the sink as your ice bucket. A plastic bag wouldn't be good for holding ice, since it could be leaky or get punctured easily.

UPDATE: I've found a guy who posted on the internet about using a hotel sink as an overnight refrigerator. He suggests folding one of the spare bath towels two or three times over the top of the sink to insulate the ice. The guy says the ice water will probably leak out of the drain overnight, so fill it to the top with ice. Having your ice in a plastic bag sealed with a twist-tie in the sink will solve that leaking problem. http://onemansblog.com/2007/07/17/travel-t...t-hotel-cooler/

I think all these look like possibilities but also agree with 1,4, and 7 to narrow it down.

Comments, and reviews, of The Edison seemed to be mixed. Some say clean, spacious rooms, others say small rooms, tiny bathrooms, really old, in need of a makeover. Most do agree that it is a great location.

The Travel Inn is on 42nd, which is on the same street as the American Airlines Theatre. What does that WOOT mean after the price that Seier listed?

To SIO, and Toria, I will just wipe my hands on my clothes!!!

"WOOT" is the 'woop' sound of approval in written form. Toma is showing her approval of the price.

I could have said that it was the acronym for "Without Option Of Toilet", but that would be bad of me to do. :angel_not:

I'm open to any of those hotels. The closer to the theatre, the better.

Now if I was going by myself, I would book through Priceline. I booked two rooms through Priceline for excellent prices.

The Milford Hotel we stated at in January was very nice and in a good location.

As long as there are no bugs crawling around, I'm open to anything. I've stayed at some not so nice hotels, and survived the experience. It's not like we spend a lot of time in the rooms.

Me too, Toria. I would also like something convenient to the theatre location. And, naturally, I do want a clean, non-smoking room. After seeing several news stories on the upswing of bedbugs, I will forever look for them under my mattress, no matter how nice a hotel seems. And yes, I realize that I am responsible for opening up this can of worms. Now, SIO will surely give us the origination, the demise, and the present re-infestation of the dreaded bedbug.

I figured that WOOT meant pretty much what you explained. Is that one of them thar Yankee words?

I'll pass along the scientific tip that bedbugs don't live in waterbeds and air mattresses unlike upholstery and stuffed mattresses. That's useful for travelers to know.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedbug

QUOTE

Bedbugs were known at least as early as 1726 in Jamaica.

Bedbugs were originally brought to the United States by early colonists from Europe. Bedbugs thrive in places with high occupancy, such as hotels. Bedbugs were believed to be altogether eradicated 50 years ago in the United States and elsewhere with the widespread use of DDT.

One recent theory about bedbug reappearance involves potential geographic epicentres. Investigators have found three apparent United States epicentres at poultry facilities in Arkansas, Texas and Delaware. It was determined that workers in these facilities were the main spreaders of these bedbugs, unknowingly carrying them to their places of residence and elsewhere after leaving work. Bedbug populations in the United States have increased by 500 percent in the past few years. The cause of this resurgence is still uncertain, but most believe it is related to increased international travel and the use of new pest-control methods that do not affect bedbugs.

The dramatic rise in bedbug activity came approximately 10 or so years after professionals stopped spraying for cockroach activity.

You should all know by now, I don't care where we stay. I'm only focused on one thing  I trust you ladies to pick a nice hotel.

I do want to take a trip to the Paley Media Center in New York when I am in town, because there is a video of a pilot that Hugh Laurie co wrote and starred in that was never picked up by the networks. So, I may end up coming into town a day early.

And Filmlover, I haven't the vaguest idea, as to the one thing that you might be focused on.

I am so  happy!!! My niece agreed to leave on Thurs., instead of Friday, so we will have a little more time in NYC. This makes me feel soooo good!
Hot dog, yippee, and all that other stuff!
