I have a sony ICD-P320. It was about $75 at best buy, but it seems to work great. I can record up to 32 hours on it and it has 4 folders to seperate the recordings as well as the date and time stamp. With ghost hunting, it is better to buy a voice recorder that has a usb port on the side so you can easily download the recordings on to a computer. Most of the time, those types of recorders come with a cd to put in the cd rom that has editing software with it.

I have 3 different models of Olympus recorders. They record 4, 10, and 16 hours. Prices were 50.00 - 75.00.

I have a Olympus recorder as well and it records up to 16 hours and also houses 4 internal memory folders. And it came with it's own USB cord, which is nice when I have to download my audio to my computer.

I have 2 Sony digial voice recorders. I can't remember the models, but in high quality audio mode, it will record 8 hours worth of audio, and I believe either 16-32 hours in low quality. Of course I never run them in low quality, so I am not 100% sure on the amount of time. Both of ours have the USB port which is a must for what we all do. Since getting these recorders, I hate backing up our analog recorders. I think I got mine for $70.

I just got a new Sony ICD-P520. It was 59.99 at Target. It came with editing software which is good and it will hold up to 130 hours of recordings. But there is no on/off switch!

The display is always on unless the batteries are removed.

I am not sure I am going to like it. It says batteries will last 11 hours in HQ and 22 in SP while recording but I wonder how long they will
last when not recording. I don't want to have to take the batteries
out all the time and then have to reset everything.

I haven't downloaded a recording yet but when just listened through the recorder itself there seems to be a lot of background hissing,
even in HQ setting.

Recently purchased a RCA RP5030 with a usb cable off eBay for about $25 total. Shipping was ten bucks of that price and it likely cost around three to actually ship it. It is how many sellers there make their profit.

I purchased this one to use while not at a site personally. Didn't want an expensive one stolen while I was gone. The unit is very cheaply made so don't drop it or you will be buying another one.

The sound quality is far better than I expected out of a cheap recorder. To test it I placed in withiin a hundred yards of a road at night and left it for two hours. It picked up all the cars, a cow that was at least 400 yards away, crickets, tree frogs, a chained dog barking about 200 yards away, a jet plane, and something moving through the leaves. The sound quality is at least as good as my most expensive recorder, an OLYMPUS WS-100.

If you need to go cheap then this one isn't too bad. Like I said, don't drop it. It records up to 18 hours in MP3 format. Below is a link to one just like it. This seller posts the entire manual on their auction.

My favorite is the Olympus PC-100. It has a direct PC link. It not only records voices but I can store documents and photos on it. There is no background noise, the recordings are crystal clear.

I work with the Olympus VN - 2100 PC, 3100 PC and 4100 PC recorders. And I agree with MysteriousCozy.....they work really great. But we try to work with other recorders, too, because we want to get the best possible results.
But I think, our next investigations will show it.
