Welcome
While Robin and his merrymen protect the innocents of Nottinghamshire, England is being crushed by the tightening grip of cruel Prince John. As the Sheriff and his associates rob every last coin from the people, new forces led by former noble Marian Fitzwalter strive to protect Nottingham from destruction by less obvious means. With rumors of a coming plague from the East, tensions are high but hearts hold hope for the return of the king and stability to England. Power is for the taking but at the expense of others. Will you grasp it or help those without hope?

~ Every day, when you’re walking down the street,
Everybody that you meet has a look into your point of view
And I say “Hey! What a wonderful kind of day
So we can learn to work and play and get along with each other.”
You gotta listen to your heart, listen to the beat,
Listen to the rhythm, the rhythm of the street,
Open up your eyes, open up your ears,
And together we’ll make things better by working together
It’s a simple message, but it comes from the heart,
Oh believe in yourself, for that’s the place to start
And I say “Hey! What a wonderful kind of day
So we can learn to work and play and get along with each other.”
Hey, what a wonderful kind of day! ~

• Name • Katherine Nicole Maitland
• Nicknames • Kathy, Katie, Kay, and Nikki
• Age • fourteen
• Occupation • outlaw

~ The Reflective Waters ~

• Hair • Auburn
• Eyes • Blue!
• Build • Small and slightly chubby
• Distinguishing Features •
Kay has a pug nose that she loooooooooves to wrinkle when she’s upset. When you see her wrinkling your nose, it is best to either comply to her insane demands or run away very, very quickly; a wrinkled nose is the sign of a forthcoming temper tantrum. Her teeth are also childishly crooked and rounded at the edges like a child’s, which, when she smiles, makes her look younger than her fourteen years.
• Overall Appearance •
Kay is not at all sure what to do with her hair. She could leave it looooooong, like mother and Eva, or she could trim it shooooort, like Gareth. Decisions, decisions. At the moment, however, she has chosen to leave it long and make her decision when she’s older. In the dim shadows of the forest, it appears to be a plain and simple brown, but in the rare moments when the sun manages to poke its golden rays between the thick leaves, it changes to more of a fiery orange-red. Her cheeks have yet to lose their childish puppy fat; she has two dimples, only visible when she smiles, which is quite often. Her teeth are rounded, rather than straight or pointed, like a child’s baby teeth; they simply grew in that way. Part of the reason for this is because she used to suck her thumb while she slept, which slightly altered the way the teeth grew in. The other part of the reason is unknown, except maybe to her mother. Mothers know everything.

She is fairly short for a fourteen year old girl, several inches shorter than her sister; therefore, she has no choice but to look up to her, both figuratively and literally. Sometimes, when she’s feeling adult, she’ll walk, talk, and act like her older sister, but normally, she’ll run around the forest and hide from Eva, to irritate her. Being small has its advantages sometimes, especially when it comes to wriggling about in small spaces and hiding in the trees. Also, it helps when wandering through Nottingham with her sister (as rare as those opportunities are); nobody pays attention to a short, chubby little girl, right?

In fact, pretty much all she can do during those miserable months is lie around making everybody else miserable.
• Quirks •

    - she has a very innocent, childish smile, something she always turns on people when she's about to get into trouble. It never helps.
    - if she wants your attention, she takes no shame in jabbing you repeatedly in the ribs until she has it.
    - she looooooves to pout when she wants something.
    - she makes a point in sulking when she doesn't get her own way
• Overall Personality •
Kay hates it when her mother and sister treat her like she's uncapable of taking care of herself; she's not five, for goodness' sake! However, since she was always the baby of the family, she rarely acts her age. Growing up is no fun, especially since now her body is slowly changing from that of a child into that of a woman. She has no desire to grow up, considering all the pain and suffering adults now have to go through; she figures that if she continues acting like a little girl, maybe she can stop time and no longer grow up.

She has a deep love of pranking, which is why she's so fond of Gareth. He is the master pranker in her world, and she utterly adores the boy, just short of idolizing him. She tends to spend a lot of time in his presence, trying to convince him to teach her his pranks, or just to play with her, as Eva is always away and her mother is too busy tending to the people in the forest. She's rather lonely, as she is the only one her age around. All the single parent families that her mother takes in have children that are either infantile or around Eva's age. When she's lonely, she tends to wander off and sulk alone in a hollow tree she found. When she was younger, she had an imaginary friend; she hasn't told anybody, but that imaginary friend still exists in her mind. She often wanders off just to play with Evelyn (or "Evie", as she prefers to call her), her "friend", named after her older sister.

She has heard a few people speaking of "true love", but has no idea what it is; the most she knows of love is the love of a family. She has, however, reached the age where she is beginning to be somewhat curious about men. She has started to branch out in her explorations through the forest, hoping to find out what this "true love" is. And what Katherine Maitland wants, Katherine Maitland gets, even if she has to throw a fit to get it. There is one boy in Robin's gang who looks to be about her age that looks rather interesting; she tends to spend a lot of time watching him.

Yes, Kay loves to spy on people. She tends to follow her sister around and watch her from a distance; sometimes, when she sneaks into Nottingham, she gathers some information from the Sheriff and his men. After all, who would think to suspect a little girl? None, so far, but one of the men has been watching her pretty closely lately..

• History •
Kay has no knowledge of her history before the age of six. Her mother doesn't like to talk about it; neither does her sister. However, she does know that her father was killed by the Sheriff's men, and that her older sister had a twin, also dead. She doesn't much remember her older sister, though. All she knows for certain is that she lives with what people call a "witch", something she is constantly throwing a temper tantrum about. Jeannette is not a witch, for goodness' sake!

When she was nine, her older sister Evelyn suddenly disappeared. Again, her mother and sister didn't like to talk about it much. She never found out from them what happened, but after some snooping and sneaking into Nottingham, she found out from the civilians there what had happened. Ever since, she loathed the Sheriff, but never told her sister or mother what she had done, especially since she was strictly forbidden to leave the forest, or even go far from the camp on her own.

She found out, albeit accidentally, about her sister's "secret identity" as the Green Lady of the Forest. She was rather impressed, and decided that she wanted to something similar. Now when she sneaks off, she practices banging a large stick against a tree, pretending she is fighting one of the Sheriff's men. She stole a bow from a sleeping guard just outside Nottingham, and spends a lot of time practicing how to shoot it as well. However, as her sister is growing more and more protective, she finds herself wandering farther and farther away, closer and closer to the edge of the forest and the Sheriff's grasp. Nobody can be trusted, almost everybody is an enemy...and how does the Sheriff know that she doesn't know anything about Robin Hood and Marian Fitzwalter?

Kay stopped listening to adults when she turned ten; she doesn't plan on starting again any time soon. She started disappearing for long periods of time; where she went is a mystery to most. Usually she tends to sit in a tree near to Marian and Robin's camps and watch the hustle and bustle, but at least twice a week, she slips into Nottingham to swipe an apple and wander around, listening in on conversations between the Sheriff's men. She always makes sure the information gets to the right people, but never tells them herself; no, she writes a note and leaves it where one of the gangs is sure to find it. Never signed, of course. She doesn't want anybody finding out what she's up to.

Being in that wonderful stage of life that she absolutely loathes, Kay has found herself paying more and more attention to a certain boy in Robin's gang. She doesn't know his name or age, but she is fairly certain that he's around her age. She finds him rather...cute, to say the least. She made the mistake of telling her mother, and of course Margaret threw a fit. She forbade her to leave the camp unattended ever again. Not that Kay cares; she slips away anyway, doing whatever she wants to.

Once in a while, she is brave enough to wander into Marian's camp; Marian did live in her clearing for a while, after all. She doesn't do it all that often though. The less time she spends with people who know her, the better; you never know if they'll rat you out to your mother or not. She has never been to Robin's camp, though, for two reasons. One, she doesn't know anybody there, and two, she might run into that cute boy. While he's fun to watch, she isn't quite ready to meet him face to face yet.

Pending!

Notes from the Admins!

Lovely, Rei! The only thing we'd like to see is a bit more about Kay's personal history. Did she ever have a friend in the camp? Sneak into town by herself? Does she have any dreams for her future life yet? Being in that fun stage of life, has she had her first crush yet? What is her relationship to the gangs, especially since Marian lived with them for a time?

I'm kicking myself but I also just realized I accidently cut out Jeannette's death from my original application :headdesk: Margaret's taken her place as the Forestwife and the Maitland women are feeling the strain of the added responsibility of taking care of their guests with one less person. Since she's getting older, I wouldn't be surprised if Eva starts expecting her sister to hang around to help more (whether Kay concedes to such wishes is a different thing entirely biggrin.gif ).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Pinky or I. In the meantime, I'm incredibly excited and already plotting up shenanigans for the sisters!

Congratulations and welcome to For the King!

Notes from the Admins!

Yay! How exciting! Just one quick thing to keep in mind: given her social class and being female, Kay probably wouldn't know how to write. Small thing but always poses an interesting challenge smile.gif ::throws confetti: Let the trouble begin!
