~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The world had changed. It wasn’t the world she used to know. Then she wasn’t the girl anymore the world knew. With a sigh she looked out over the dark landscape of southern england. It was time, time for her to return to the world she hated so much, but at the same time was the thing which bound her here. It was time. She was not afraid. After all, she had looked Death in it’s horrible face once, he couldn’t get to her twice.
With an almost psychotic grin, she stood up and brushed the dirt of her black cloak. It was time. She wondered if the world was ready.
“But why didn’t you let the boy kill him?” A high-pitched voice asked demandingly.
“Draco couldn’t do it, Master,’ he explained: “It’s one thing to get the Death Eaters inside Hogwarts. It’s a whole different thing to kill one of the greatest wizards alive.”
“So you are saying that i, Lord of the Darkness, made a wrong decision by giving the boy this task?” Voldemort asked, in a seemingly calm voice.
“I wouldn’t say it was a wrong decision, merrily a slight miscalculation. After all it’s just a child..”
“I’m not a child!” A boy, looking like he was in his late teens, piped up: “I was just....deciding how to kill the old bastard!”
“Silence boy!” Voldemort roared: “I’ve set a task for you, which you couldn’t complete because you were hesitating. I don’t allow such delay in my ranks!”
Draco immediatelly let his head down, knowing pretty well he was in a bad position.
Severus Snape shook his head. The boy had been weak, letting his emotions take over. He didn’t understand yet that The Dark Lord didn’t understood such things. He himself had learned a long time ago that emotions were useless, they only weakened one down. It was better to not feel at all. But yet, the boy still had a lot to learn.
“Master, if you allow me to say something.”
“Very well, though i must warn you that i’m not in the mood for weak explanations.”
“Draco might have the right intension to follow you dark path, master, but he is still weak. If you’d allow me to educate him a little more, to not let his emotion take over again.”
The Dark Lord sat down on his throne-like chair again. “Yes, that might be a good idea. Though without Dumbledore we haven’t got the same strong resistance, it would be foolish to think we don’t need every single Death Eater. Educate the boy. Make the pathetic fool stronger and not as treacherous as his father. Make sure he’s ready before we start the final battle.” Voldemort grinned delighted by the thought of destroying the wizarding society he loathed so much. “It won’t be long untill the snake rules this world and people would look upon us with respect and fear. The world is changing.”
The former potionsprofessor slightly inclined his head: “Indeed it is, master. We will leave you alone now.”
“Yes, yes, please take that piece of filth out of my sight and do not show him to me untill he’s worth baring the name of a Death Eater.”
Severus Snape metioned the light-haired boy, who was fuming on the inside, to follow him out of the room. Once the heavy wooden doors had fallen shut behind them, the boy let out his anger.
“I’m not weak and i’m not filth! I’m a Malfoy!”
Without hesitation he smacked the boy against his head. “Stupid boy. I saved your life in there. If you really want to save your father you have to learn to be strong. Now, go out of my sight untill i call for you again.”
Draco still was angry but he knew better than to start a fight with his former professor, so he obeyed and left for his own room in the mansion.
The older man decided to not head for his own chambers but the strut around the old mansion a little. This night had gone so fast that he hadn’t gotten the time to think about it all. Now reality hit him. Dumbledore was dead. And he’d killed him. So he had done what he was supposed to do. Now the world indeed had changed for him. He had to watch out. He would be one of the most wanted wizards in the wizardingsociet, with only Voldemort above him.
He was pulled out of his thoughts when a man came hurrying by, almost kicking him over. “Stop right there Amplewater, what’s the rush?”
The old Death Eater, an old servant of Riddle Mansion, stopped in his tracks. “Sorry master Snape, i had not seen you sir. But there is news i have to tell the master of the house.”
“And what’s so important, you actually have to run?” He inquiered.
The old man seemed to linger on it for a moment, but being the gossip telling man he was he couldn’t keep it in. “Well the Master really should know first, but since you are a loyal follower and you’re going to find out anyway, i could tell you.”
Severus waited impatiently, knowing quite well he had to give the old man some time, just for the dramatical effect.
“Greyback is dead sir. Yup, he was killed, just outside Hogwarts castle sir.”
“So he was caught by the Order, i pressume?”
“Not likely, Nox told me the Order was as shocked as we are. And the kind of magic performed on Fenrir didn’t leave a mark. Isn’t that curious?”
“Yes it is,” Severus pondered on it. Every little piece of magic left traces, how small the magic was. “But if it wasn’t someone of the Order, and i pressume it isn’t anybody out of our own ranks...”
“Oh let’s hope not sir!”
“Than who can it be?”
“Well,” Amplewater motioned him to come close as if he was to tell a really big secret: “the people of Hogmeade say the have seen a ghost there, a lady dressed in black with a pale face and dark eyes, like a Banshee. And they also tell of the thing that was left behind next to the body of Fenrir, bless him. A single bloodred tullip....Though this are just rumours of course.”
“Of course. Well Amplewater, i’m sure the Master would like to know about this.”
While the old man was on his way, the darkhaired wizard look out of one of the windows into the dark night. A Banshee, seemed unlikely, since ghost really couldn’t get a hold on anything substantial, like a flower, or perform strong magic. And the blood-red tullip....Deep down in his memories, cast away long before and almost forgotten, he had seen this kind of flower before...
She was just in time for the funeral. While everybody sat on benches near the Black Lake, she hid in the rim of the hidden forest. She was met by the centaurs, who cast and watching eye on her, but since they couldn’t read what she was, they let her stand there, in the shadows of the trees.
Things had changed in the time she hadn’t been there. The castle gotten older, as did the teachers. And now the headmaster, Album Dumbledore had been killed. She could sense the trace of death around the Northern Tower. For most students this had been a place of joy and happiness, sometimes, even a second home. Now it was a place of sorrow and death.
For her it still was what it was when she had been student there. A home. Here she’d just been a girl. Here she’d had friends. Though people had looked at her funny, she was quietly accepted by the masses.
Here she’d found love....and lost it again.
30 years ago...
“I can’t believe you got an A on Potions! That test was horrible. I did everything right but i only managed to get an B. My Befuddlement Draught kept on turning purple instead of orange.”
“You probably hadn’t chopped up your scurvy-grass in even pieces, Remus.” She said, brushing a strand of brown and red hair out of her dark eyes.
“No,’ the mouse-haired boy grinned: “You’re just the mistress of Potions. We’re lucky to have you in Gryffindor. You earn back the points James and Sirius loose.”
“Don’t count yourself out, Remus. You’re conducting of a Patronus in DaDa gave us 15 more points.”
She said, smiling at her dear friend. This was here first year on Hogwarts, she had been placed in the 6th year, though her age actually should have placed her in the 5th year. She had been sorted into Gryffondor, while the Sorting Hat had wanted to put her in another house. She was glad she could persuade it to put her in the house of the lion.
Meeting new people wasn’t her favorite part of life and she’d been happy that Remus had been set the task to show her around the castle. They quickly had found out that they both had a same passion for books and now they were quite the friends. The other Gryffindors didn’t really know what to think of her, since she was really quiet and a bit of odd-looking with her two-toned hair. But she was used to that.
“I wonder were James, Peter and Sirius have gone.” Remus wondered out loud. The two of them had stayed behind because Slughorn had wanted to talk to her. The professor really had strained himself to ask her about her parents, which she didn’t answer, what he took that she had really influental parents. Most of the students thought the same since she was let in Hogwarts ánd in the 5th year just like that. Let them think that.
“I guess they went outside, it’s a pretty day after all,” she suggested. “Just follow the trail of malice and fainting girls.”
“Hey! They are my friends, you know!” Remus exclaimed.
She whacked him against his arm with a book. “I’m just joking, Remus. Though you know i’m right.”
The boy sniggered, very unlike him: “As always.”
She smiled slightly. “Now you go outside, i’ll join you after i’d returned this book to the library. I’m already a day to late.”
“Allright, i’ll see you than.” Remus said, before he headed to the Entrance Hall. She turned around and walked to the library. Actually she could have returned the book tomorrow, she had lied so she did not need to spend an afternoon with those other boys. Remus was great. He was sweet, intelligent, mature, and a good friend, but those other boys. They got on her nerves.
James just was a show-off,with his look i can catch a snitch attitude. Sirius, was to full of hisself anyway, he always tried to get in her skirt and Peter, she didn’t trust the slimeball at all. There was something in those small eyes she didn’t trust. He was to weak, admiring that silly Potter and Black.
She was so deep in thoughts that she didn’t see the dark figure crossing her path untill she bumped into the person.
“Oh, i’m sorry!” She dove to the ground to pick up her books and those of the other person.
“Maybe you should stop dreaming and pay attention to where you are walking,’ she heared the other person sneer. She froze. Oh dear god no! Did she just bumped into....Well who else had such a silky, yet cold voice?
“Drooling about Black, probably?”
She got up again and looked the dark-haired boy in his black eyes. “Not all girls fancy Sirius, you know. I was just musing about the good grade i got on my Befuddlement Draught. This is yours, i pressume.” She stuck out a copy of “Antidotes and Posions; how to find which is which”
He grabbed the book out of her hands. She had a bit of time to take him in now. Untill now she had never spoken to Severus Snape. She had noticed him, yes. She had seen him being bullied by Sirius and James and many times had been so close to interfering. From the first day she’d looked to the Slytherin table, she’d noticed him. The dark-haired quiet boy, looking a bit scruffy with second-hand robes. But she’d seen something else. Like her, this boy had a troubled past. It draw her to him but she was to shy to talk to him anyway, since he was surrounded by Slytherins most of the time.
Her frequently staring to the Slytherin table had not gotten unnoticed by the Gryffondirs, but they just thought she was staring at the pale beauty of Lucius Malfoy. Yeah, as if.
“And which grade did you get?” he suddenly asked.
“I’ve got an A,” she answered truthfully.
His expression changed slightly, as if he was surprised. “So you figured out to chop the Scurvy grass in pieces of the same size?”
She nodded. “It seemed like the logical thing to do, though the book didn’t say anything on the matter.”
They fell silent again, with him having a bit of an odd expression on his face. She started to feel a bit nervous and bit her bottomlip. Could she just walk away or would that be to undecent? Though he was a Slytherin so she really shouldn’t talk to him anyway.
“You’re Remus’ girl.” He suddenly said as if he just had recognised her.
“Remus’s friend,” she corrected him: “I’m Christine.” She stuck out her hand, which he eyed with suspicion. “I don’t have germs or something,” she said a bit offended.
He hesitated one second before he grabbed her hand. “Severus, and i didn’t think you had germs, it’s more that you are a Gryffindor. That house and me don’t go along so well.”
His hand was rather cold, yet strong. She couldn’t help to get a bit of an tingling situation in her stomach at the contact. Which she ignored.
“Well not all Gryffindors are alike,’ she said: “It has been nice meeting you, Severus.” She managed to pull herself together and walked passed him, to the library.
Ch.2 I Dare You!
“Severus, we have a serious situation on our hands,” The Dark Lord stated, pacing around the room. “It seems like the Order has hired some unnatural creature to kill off Death Eaters. First Greyback, now Nox, and again this stupid flower.” The last part was spit out, while Voldemort crushed the said flower in his hands. Blood red pedals fell to the floor. “We have done a quick investigation but there is no trace of magic or of the killer. We need to find him. And that’s why i need you.”
“Me?” Severus Snape asked.
“Yes you. You know more of the Dark Arts than the others. Surely this is some unknown Dark Creature working here. I need brains here, which you seem to have. Nox was killed in the Three-Headed Bear in Knock-Turn Alley. Go. Take the boy with you. Maybe he can learn.”
“Yes, master.” The dark-haired man turned around, his black cloak swirling around him. Not that he minded doing something usefull, but playing dectective? He didn’t really mourn about the deaths of Greyback and Nox either. The first one had been to uncontrollable, the latter a drunkard. Though not knowing what or whom did it was quite the challenge. And he would be out of Riddle Mansion. The outside world might be dangerous, since every wizard in the country would hate him, at least Voldemorts highpitched voice wouldn’t follow him in every single room.
Draco probably had been given the same orders to, since the blonde boy already was waiting in the hall of the castle with his travelling cloak on.
“We’ll leave in 5 minutes,”he told the boy, before he made a turn to his right to get some stuff out of his chambers. Draco couldn’t really do anything than to obey, since the seventeen-year-old couldn’t apparate yet.
They apparated in an abandoned shop in Knock-Turn Alley, which was used for this single purpose only. “Put the hood over your head,’ he ordered the boy, while doing the same. Knock-Turn Alley was a place only visited by the dark-spirited or evil-doers, but the Order seemed to have made an habit in dropping in by times. Also, one could not know who would spil after some pressure.
After he had made sure they both were covered in the shadows of their hoods, so they could pass for vampires, he motioned the boy to follow him outside. Their destination was the shabby pub The Three-Headed Bear. It was rather quiet on this evening, probably because most of The Dark Lords followers had gone in temporary hiding before the great battle.
Severus walked over to the one-eyed landlord and lifted his sleeve to show him his Mark. “We’re here in the investigation of Norbert Nox’s murder.”
“Ah yess,’ lispeled the innkeeper who missed most of his front teeth.”I’ll show you the room. A real pity. Send my regards to the Dark Lord.”
“Show us the room.” He didn’t came her to chit-chat afterall.
“A real pity that is,” the landlord went on, while grabbing a key of a hook before climbing up the flight of stairs. “He was good for business. Good taste in wine, that man. Well, here it is. I kept it closed just in case someone showed up.” When the door opened, an small room with a bed and a desk showed. There were still clothes scathered on the floor and the only light came from a dirty glass window on the side. A rather fat pidgeon was just to be seen. At first hand it seemed like nothing happened here.
“I found him here,’ the one-eyed innkeeper said, pointing to a spot on the floor. “No blood or anything. He looked really peacefull, as if he was asleep.”
“Really?” That was rather unusual, the Death Spell or any Potion would show on the face, which would look like it was struck with horror or fear. Not peacefull.
“You can leave us now. Oh and we would like to hire two rooms. To be payed when we leave.”
“Yes sir.” The innkeeper bowed theatrically before he left the room.
“Do you see anything out of the ordinairy, Draco?” He asked the boy.
“No, except that it’s dirty in here,” The boy stuck up his nose. “Apart from that everything looks in order.”
“Yes....almost to much. Remember Nox was a drunkard.” Severus’s dark eyes took in the room and stopped on a shelve with dusty old books. “And one of the books is missing.”
He pulled a bag from under his cloak. “Now, watch carefully. Every magic leaves it’s trace. The others couldn’t find it, but they probably didn’t try this...”
In an experienced manner he took out some philes and containers with different kinds of herbs and ingredients. He looked under the bed and found a old and dusty cauldron, which had to do for the moment.
“Draco. Make some fire in the fireplace.”
In a rather bored way the boy obeyed, flicking his wand so a small fire burned in the dirty fire place. Snape decided not to be bothered by the boys attitude, it would only cost him energy and placed the cauldron on the fire.
Half an hour later a thick purple haze came out of the cauldron and filled the room. “This is the Appearing Elixir, it shows any trace of motion or magic which happened in this room for 48 hours. Now watch.”
Almost immediately the haze darkened and thickened to show the figure of a chubby man, Nox, staggering across the room in a obvious drunk way. It stopped in the middle of the room, as if it noticed something. Behind him, suddenly, the haze became a bright white colour, in the shape of a small person, who seemed to be hugging the person from behind before Nox fell to the floor never to get up again. The white figure knelt beside him and placed something on his chest, probably the tullip, before it got up again, turned around and walked to the door where it dissappeared.
“This can’t be right,’ The potions master mused out loud, while the haze dissappeared. “Only magic will appear white...”
“Maybe you made the potion wrong?” Draco suggested, with a hint of malicious pleasure in his voice.
“I did not,” Snape snarled: “This person probably has some magical shield around itself.”
“Yeah right.” Draco rolled with his green eyes, reminding him strongly of his dad. “So we came here for nothing?”
“I will not take that tone of you, Draco.”Severus sneered: “May i remind you who actually saved your life in Hogwarts ánd with the Dark Lord? And if you think that we have found out nothing here, you are even more stupid than i believed you were. Don’t look so shocked. We’re not in Hogwarts anymore. Your father is persona non grata now, so i don’t owe him anything anymore. From now on, you will work for me.”
Having said this he left the room, descending the flight of stairs to the bar. He felt like he needed a drink or two.
While he was sitting on the bar, with a glass of red wine, a pair of dark eyes were fixed on him. A small hooded figure was sitting on a round table in one of the corners, drinking some tea. She’d noticed the two hooded figures already when they had entered the inn, and could only guess why they were here. Not that they were going to find anything.
So the dark lord had sent him. Smart move. If anybody would find something, though not enough, it was him. Though he’d never removed the cloak when he was in the pub, she could tell it was him. The way he moved, gracious, demanding yet distant, yes, this was Severus Snape. She would love to see his face. See how time had treated him. But he wouldn’t show himself where other people were, since he was wanted by the order for the murder of Dumbledore. And she could not face him when he was alone. At least, not when he could actually see her. After all, she just couldn’t be here. It was unlogical. Breaking all the rules. She had to stay put, at least, untill she found her father. Than maybe, she could show herself.
For now, she had a job to do. She motioned the pub-keeper that she wanted to pay. When the one-eyed man walked over to her she got an idea. While she gave the man a galleon, way to much for two cups of tea, she also handed him something else.
“Please be so kind to give this to the dark gentleman at the bar?”
“Yes madam,” the landlord said, grinning because he probably thought he was involved in some kind of romantic gesture.
“Sir, sorry to bother you,”
Severus Snape looked up from his glass of wine and barked: “What?”
“A young lady asked me to give you another glass of wine and...this.”
He couldn’t believe what was being placed next to his new glass of wine. There, staring at him in all it’s deadly innocense, was a dark red tullip.
“Where’s this lady?” He demanded to know.
“Well, she is sitting right there...” The landlord actually looked surprised when the woman wasn’t there anymore. “She was right there..”
Severus Snape almost choked the poor man by standing up and grabbing his tie. “Who was it?”
“I don’t know sir. This is the second time she was here.”
“Allright, what did she look like?”
“I don’t know sir. Please you are choking me!”
“How do you mean, you don’t know?!” He did let go of the tie, so that the landlord could find some breath to answer him.
“She wears a hooded cloak, just like you do sir. That is why i thought she must be a Death Eater too. I could only hear her voice, which was soft and sounded young, like she was in her early twenties or something. And sometimes i could see her eyes, but i can’t tell the colour, only that they seemed to be really dark.”
Severus sat down again. So the murderer was a young woman, which would explain why the white figure had been smaller than average. Still, it seemed like she would know who he was, otherwise she would not have given him this flower. Or she was giving him a dare. Which was more likely. He didn’t know any young women, except for his former students and none of them was capable of such powerfull magic as which she used to kill. He had known one, but she couldn’t be here.
Her head was bowed over a roll of parchment while she was noting something down. He looked over her shoulder and noticed she was noting down the preparation of the Elixir to Induce Euphoria.
“You’d better stir anti-clockwise every 5 turns, otherwise it won’t turn sunshine-yellow, but only yellow, which isn’t as strong.”
She jumped up, startled by his voice. She looked over her shoulder.
“Oh Hi, Severus. I didn’t hear you coming.” She looked at the parchment again, than to the book she was copying from and than back to the parchment. He actually felt delightened when she crossed out ‘stir the potion 35 times clockwise’ into ‘stir the potion 5 times clockwise, then one time anti-clockwise. Repeat 5 times.’
“How did you find out?” she asked, sounding interested. “And please sit down.”
He hesitated for a moment, since he was never asked to sit down to study with someone, except for Lucius who’d only wanted him to make his work, but decided he could take the chance. So he sat down next to her, slightly brushing her arm as he did so.
“I make the potions in the summer and try what works better.” Great, she would probably think he was some kind of dork.
But she turned her face to him again and smiled. “So i’m not the only one who practises in summer?”
“You do?”
“Yes, though i practise charms more..” she looked around to see if madam Pince was around, who wasn’t to be seen and took out her wand. In a reflex he backed away, which she noticed. She frowned before she pointed her wand to a candelier on the wand. She muttered some words and suddenly the candelier changened into a brown pidgeon which flew off and tried to fly through the window, which he couldn’t.
“Impressive,” he said, folowing the bird with his eyes while it fluttered around the ceiling.
“Yeah well,” she shrugged: “It gives me something to do.” Suddenly she seemed to realise she said to much and bended down on her parchment again.
He watched her for a while. So there was more they had in common? It seems like he’d been right when he noticed the sadness in her eyes. Beautiful eyes they were. They reminded him of a storm, in dark blue en green. But when she’d greeted him her eyes had turned lighter, more grey.
He shook his head. He wasn’t thinking this. Helping a Gryffondor with her homework was one thing, noticing how beautiful her eyes were or how the red in her hair lightened up in this light, that was something completely different.
“If you add some moonstone, the side effects won’t be so strong.” He said to keep his mind of forbidden things.
She immediately noted it down. “Thanks.” She sat up right again. “Do you want to learn the pidgeon spell?”
He couldn’t help but smile slightly. “Why not.”
She looked around again, but the librarian still was nowhere to be found. “Allright, you’ll have to move your wand like this.” She made an eight, followed by a cirkle in the air, which he copied. “and say Columbidae while pointing you wand to an object the size of a pidgeon.”
He repeated the spell and pointed it to an forgotten book on the table, which immediately tranfsormed into an pidgeon. A really flat, rather rectangleshaped pidgeon.
“Well, it’s close.” She was able to say, before she fell in a laughing fit.
He grabbed the book-pidgeon out of the air and held it in front of her face. “Now you are going to apoligize to it, because you hurt his feelings.”
“Ok,” she pulled a straight face: “Sorry pidgeon. You are probably full of knowlegde.”
Now even he could not hold back his laughter and for the first time in a really long time he heared himself laugh. They were actually having so much fun that the librarian came over to them.
“This is a library! Remove yourself!”
He got on his feet and dragged Christine with him, who’d just enough time to grab her parchment. Still laughing they made their way out of the library, while the book-pidgeon followed his real mate in flying around the circle.
“Priceless,” Chrsitine said, grabbing her sides which hurted from her laughing. “It has been a while since somebody made me laugh like that.”
“Likewise,’ he agreed: “I just hope it wasn’t a really important book.”
Suddenly they heared a really cocky voice. “My oh my, what do we have here. What’s so funny, Severus. Seen your own reflection?”
To his annoyance, they had run into Black and Potter, the latter the owner of this spitefull comment.
Next to him, Christine raised her chin. “No, we were looking at your list of grades, James.”
“Wait, wait,” Black interferred: “Are you sticking up for Snivellus?”
“Yes, do you have a problem with that? And his name is Severus, Sirius.”
Sirius grinned unbelievingly, while exchanging looks with James. “So you’d rather have that greasy git over me? Geez, i knew you were loony, but now i start to wonder about your general state of mind...”
Before he had actually thought about it, Severus flung forwards and planted his fist against Sirius’ jaw. The latter actually fell to the ground, not expecting something like this. Unfortunately, James was there too, who draw his wand. “Wrong decision Snivellus.”
“Let him, James,” Sirius said, getting on his feet again, wiping some blood of his lip: “Two can play that game.”
Now the taller guy flung forward and punched him in the face. It hurted, and Severus knew he would have a black eye, but he wasn’t going to show it. He kicked out the legs from underneath Sirius, who actually did had the smarts to grab Severus’ robes so they both fell to the ground. This was getting more and more into a wrestling game.
He could hear Christine screaming for them to stop. When he looked up he actually saw that James held her in a tight grip. Sirius took his change and elbowed him in his stomach, which made him collapse in two.
It would have been much worse probably, if it hadn’t been for professor McConagall to show up. The darkhaired woman, immediately pulled the two apart by the back of their robes.
“Mister Snape and Mister Black. No fighting in the hallways! 20 points form both Gryffindor and Slytherin. I’m ashamed of you two! And Mr.Potter is there any reason you are choking poor Miss.Byron?”
“I was just comforting here, madam,” James lied. “She can’t stand violence, see.”
“Hmm,” It was obvious McConagall did not believe him, also because Christine was sending James a death glare a snake would be jealous of. “Allright, all of you go to your Common Rooms. No wandering through the corridors!” the last was clearly for the two Gryffindor Boys.
Severus enjusted his robes, sent Sirius a loathing look and turned around to head for his Common Room, while the other three headed in the other direction, the two boys dragging Christine along.
Not surprisingly Severus was still fuming. That those idiots made his live unbearable was something he got used to, but that they took it out on the poor girl....The further down he went to the dungeons, were the Slytherin chambers were, a decision was made in his head. It was better for Christine not to hang around with him anymore. She deserved to have a bit of a normal life here. He could get over it.
Suddenly he heard running footsteps behind him. Did they follow him? He grabbed his wand and quickly turned around. Instead of some snidey comments he was met by two soft arms who wrapped themselves around him. He looked down and saw a head full of brown and red hair burried against his chest.
“Christine?How did you get here?”
“I kicked Sirius in a place where the sun doesn’t shine to get loose and took a secret passage.” She explained muffled against his robes.
“You shouldn’t be here.”
“I had to. Nobody...nobody ever stood up for me.” She looked up and there actually was a tear in her right eye: “I’m sorry you got into a fight because of me. I’ll understand if you don’t want to see me anymore.....but at least let me..”
He flinched when she brought one of her hands to his cheekbone, where the skin was getting rather swollen and blue already. She closed her eyes, as if she was concentrating on something, and suddenly he felt a comfortable warmth coming from her fingertips. When she removed her hand again, his face felt much better, actually it felt like he didn’t fought at all.
“What did you do?!”
“A little healing spell.” She said, looking more than modest. “While Sirius will look pretty battered this morning, you will look like you haven’t received any of Sirius hits.”
“I see,” He actually found it rather sweet of her, though he didn’t think healing spells were even aquired for NEWT levels. Suddenly he realised she was still in his arms and her smaller body was really close to his.
He looked down in her dark eyes, which looked at him with so much warmth... He’d never seen anyone looking like that to him. And her lips, would they be as soft as they looked?
He could kiss her. He was pretty sure she would not smack him, though it might startle her a little. He slowly bent down, their lips were almost touching.........but then the door behind him was slammed open.
“Severus, there you are! I need your help on...” Lucius Malfoy stopped midsentence. “My, is that a girl?!?”
He quickly let go of Christine, who immediately took a sprint and dissappeared around the corner.
Feeling oddly cold, he turned around to Lucius. “I don’t ask anything about your private life, you don’t ask anything about mine, remember?”
“Yeah, but this is the first time i noticed you had any, Sevy.” The platinum blonde gave him a perverted wink: “Interesting catch. So tell me, is she that quiet in bed or does she actually turn into a sexual beast? I think the latter.”
“None of your business. Why did you need my help?” Severus took on his cold mask again and walked passed Lucius into Slytherin Common Room.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So yeah, there's a bit of difference in the way young Snape acts and in the way we know him now. Bare in mind that in the flashbacks Severus is only 16 years old. So not only are the hormons raging through his pale and delicious body, he also has a bit of the hope for a better life left. But that's going to change soon enough...
Well keep me posted on what you think of it....and ch.3 isn't written yet, so that will take me some more time.
