Hades and Persephone would probably have to be my favourite Myth story. I love the way that Hades the stern God of the Underworld fallen in love with the sprightly beautiful Persephone.
I like also that Persephone returned his affection. It's also a pretty story to explain Winter and Spring! |

Yes, I like that story too, Silk and Velvet.
I think I remember reading that Persephone's mother gave her a pomegranate (my favourite fruit) which was enchanted to permanently return her daughter to the World. Hades tried to stop his wife eating all of the seeds, but Persephone had eaten nine of them; for each one she had consumed, she could return to the World for one month, and so spring, summer and autumn returned to the World with her each year. In revenge for the loss of his beloved wife for nine months each year, Hades made Winter colder and crueller than any other season. |
