There are many important factors that everyone forgets about that make up a good roleplay. Here are the guidelines that everyone can refer to so they can help improve their part within the story.
Posting StandardTo make a good RP, each character must be indepth, their actions must be believable, as well as their emotions at a specific situation. RPing must be consistent to create the worlds that we're trying to create, so just put yourself in their position, and maybe you'll get the hang of it.
Posting length is also important. I do realize that not all the time can posts not be always be long. I want posts to have some detail and some length. If possible. But I won't be a post nazi about it all the time. But please try and put some length to your posts.
Posting ContentThere is to be no racism, sexism, or any such bullying content in any of our posts. Of course, some of the species with be rude and vicious, but there is no need to carry it out into our OOC boards, and you may not use it as an excuse to upset other members. They will tell us what you've been doing, and we read every post on this board anyway, so you can't escape from it.
Sex on the BoardsWriting about having sex on here is permitted, but we always must be careful. If you intend on writing about it in a special thread with someone else, always put these symbols in this order before the topic title: ~!~. At the same time though, there's no excuse for obvious porn. We don't need it.
If you're partway through a thread and intend adding it into the thread you're already a part of, at the top of your post, you must write:
~!~ Warning: Mature Content ~!~in large (usually size 5) lettering, so that those that don't want to read it don't scroll down and find something that will offend them with no prior warning. If these symbols aren't found where you have written a sex scene, you face a warning, then suspension, then removal from the boards.
Time on the BoardsObviously, time is a huge factor on the boards here, as it may get a little confusing without guidance. There is a separate rules section for time here, but I think it's wise to add a little about time in this section as well.
Please keep in mind what time period your character is in. If you're a human in the past (ie the year 2008), they wouldn't understand about space travel, and the same goes for in the future, as the character wouldn't understand everything that had happened in the past. Time travel happens, but unless your character has access to a time travelling machine, they wouldn't be able to go forward or backward in time on their own. NPCs can be used for this, so don't feel that your character may be trapped in one place for all of their time on the board! Time on the board however, is generally only used for those that are not in London or Cardiff during the year 2008.
Thread TitlesWhen starting a thread (i.e. a set of posts/new topic) the titling is more important than you realise, especially with a more complex RPG like this one. It will be presumed that a thread is 'open' (i.e. anyone can join in) unless specifically written. The title must be at least a little interesting... how many posts have you seen with the title 'Bored' or 'Relaxing' or something like that? Imagine each thread is the beginning of an epic adventure, and create a title to match. Contests will be created for different aspects of the boards, and prizes (in the form of special 'signature badges') will be given for this. As for the explanation of the different styles of titles, please look below:
Cosmic CruiseThis is a title of a thread. It's a little bit different, which is good. But, we need to start the title with a date, so others know straight away if their character can get involved or not, like so:
2671: Cosmic CruiseThere we go. The year is before the title. Now, you just need to put in a date in the topic description as well as where the characters are in the thread, like so:
2671: Cosmic Cruise21st June: Deep Space on the Lady Mariner StarshipRight, there's the basics done. Now, obviously you need symbols before the thread for different things. For example, if the thread is deliberately for only two specific characters, and you don't want anyone else to appear, you add the symbol that denotes that the thread is closed, like so:
</>2671: Cosmic Cruise21st June: Deep Space on the Lady Mariner StarshipIf you have a thread with sex in it, you need to do this:
~!~2671: Cosmic Cruise
21st June: Deep Space on the Lady Mariner StarshipIt seems complicated, but as soon as you start doing it, the titles become much easier, and is compulsary, so feel free to come back and forward to remind yourself of how to sort it out. All of the Admins will be doing this, don't worry! Generally this is for people not limited to London or Cardiff in the year 2008.
Character PlacementAs this is a realistic Doctor Who-based/Torchwood universe, we're keeping everything as believable as possible. This means that characters can only be in one place at a time during the RP, even if they're in the past one moment, then travel in time to another space and time the next. If any characters are found to be in more than one place at a time, you will be warned, then suspended, then banned. This board is already complicated enough... please don't try to make it any worse!
These are the board rules and are ones that must be followed at all times, no matter what it is that’s happening. Remember that it is these rules that determine the type of board this place is and is something that should be looked upon as a reminder of this board and not abused.
1. Board NeatnessAnybody who has administered a forum before knows how protective they are over it. The same is with me. I don’t want this board to be cluttered with pointless posts that have nothing to do with what’s set. This generally means that I want to make sure that this board isn’t filled with double posts or spam. The only area I will permit this is in the OOC area but no where else. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to role play in a messed up board either.
2. Behaviour & mannersPLEASE just treat others with respect and courtesy. It isnt much to ask. No racist/sexist/ -ist comments here, either. Swearing is allowed, as long as it isn't every other word. There's no need for too much of it at all. The Admin here are also the best at what they do. Any rude comments or similar unacceptable behaviour can result in a banning. I have had this before... and you can ask some of the other RPers how strict I am with this. Just because we're Admins, it doesn't mean that we're not humans, and have no feelings. The same goes for any nasty behaviour towards other RPers... it just isn't allowed.
3. User Names/Avatars/SignaturesYou user names/avatars/signatures must all be linked to the character that you are role playing. This is to make it easier for all us members to know who is who and what is what so we don’t get mixed up by calling you “Romantic Chipmunk” instead of “Steven Jones.” So please try and link up all these things.
4. PostingOkay, so we all want to have a fun time on here and develop the story. This means that in every post, we want at least 7 lines of writing. You can write about the scenery, what your character says, their emotions, their thoughts... the list is endless.
5. LastlyLast but not least, have fun. This board was made for your enjoyment, therefore it is there for you to enjoy. If you have any suggestions make them. If you can’t post because of something, don’t. Get to know members as much as you know your own character.

Board format taken from: Helen and Tammi. I am not too great at setting up Torchwood boards so yea. Since some of this is from Helen and Tammi as well. I have to give her credit and please check out Our Velocity and I'll be greatful to you all.
