Greetings,
~Rant warning, No offense to you or anyone else~
I am a single-mother (separated for 5yrs), age 56, disabled due to several health issues, and mother of 2 great kids & a blind son-n-law (now grownup, that help me whenever they can.)

Nice topic....I like the program as well, the crew is made up of a good bunch from what ive seen so far.
When viewing the criteria for whom is qualified for this program, it just seems a tad biased.
Meaning i realise they had to draw the line somewhere, but when it says on the site of HGTV, the rules says: Only families with at least 1 child 18 yrs and under are qualified for this project.
Then it makes it sad for those that would qualify based on financial hardships and that they could use this sort of assistance, but yet they cant apply cause their kids, are over the age of 18 &/or they dont have kids living with them anymore. -.-

My kids are all over the age of 18, but they still live with me, because its cheaper on the family as a whole, than for them to try to move out and get another home to have to support separately.
But although they all still live with me, it doesnt mean we have got it made. -.-

My delima & annoyance at banks & their policies:
I looked at homes for nearly 2 yrs and I finally placed a bid on one house that would have solved all our problems for the whole family, but then the banks tossed in their own bit of discrimmation, and denied our bid, and granted it to someone else that offered a "cash offer and less money."
So I ended up placing a bid on a much smaller home, which also needed repairs, and still needs some repairs to this date.
The day we go to sign the paperwork for the smaller home, we find out the larger home we had bid on previously was back on the market. Why?
The buyer that had given the bank a 'Cash Offer,' had backed out of the deal 2 days ago.
I had to get a loan to purchase a home, what gets me riled is the fact that banks were&/are accepting 'cash offers' over 'someone that had to get a loan' to make the purchase. In the long run I will have paid out more for the home, than the dude that made the 'cash offer,' but yet I felt I was discrimmated against because of that fact.
So we are now living in the smaller home, and for a family of 4, its a tight fit...but we're dealing with it...till we can either find a way to get the needed repairs done via a grant &/or some other assistance, which I feel at this point is hopeless based on the current economy.

Whats all this got to do with this show and project?
I am just stating my annoyance that this show doesnt also help those that are actually in true need of assistance, like ourselves.
Q. Why didnt I back out of the deal on the smaller home and re-bid on the larger home?
A. If i were to back out of the deal I had for the smaller home, I would have been fined a fee of $550.00 of which I didnt have to spare at that time, (although the down-payment I had placed on the smaller home would have covered some of it, I still would have had to come up with the down-payment requested for the purchase of the larger home, and I just didnt have any other savings for to do that then &/or if I wanted to do it now, there just is no way.
I exhausted what I had in savings to pay the needed downpayment and catch up the taxes and do some minor repairs to this property after we moved into it.
I dont have any savings to do anymore repairs, as it is now.
One thats never had to survive on less than $1600 a month, (that equals to my $638 a month, and my daughters income) couldnt fanthom what our limitations is. I only have internet use cause my daughter pays for it. (Her income is also limited due to the fact that the company she is working for; cut her pay and her hours so bad, that we had to apply for foodstamps.)
Ive applied for medicaid, cause im not elgible for medicare, based on the fact I only get SSI-D, not the full Disability that most others get...but that also has been delayed. Why? I dunno, I been waiting for some news on that for nearly a yr.
So far all they tell me is: Its in review. eerf.

Sry for the rant, but sometimes we all have to air our discressions, and hope someone out there can assist with them...

Be well and Merry be smile.gif
