Together, they had entered the University, two stragglers in the world, who no one really seemed to notice most of the time. The girl limping along, the man stumbling from exhaustion. Dyra looked at Aidan, helping him along, where she could, and surpressed the awe she felt at seeing what he called 'home'. The ceilings were vaulted at this entrance, and the floors a smooth marble, it was a subtle granduer, not blatant, but the more one looked the more everything seemed connected, seemed flowing. Feeling almost guilty that she was bleeding on the beautiful marble, she flushed and looked down.

How long had it been since she'd had a place she called home...she couldn't remember, but she didn't really want to either...there was a pressure associated with the word that she didn't want to explore at the moment...looking back to Aidan, she felt almost nervous, there were more people here than she was comfortable with, but she wouldn't leave until he at least was safe, and resting. She wasn't used to attracting attention, but here, the way they both looked, it was impossible not to. As an official looking person came towards them, she slipped closer to Aidan, her voice hushed when she spoke, "Who's he?" Her eyes flickering from the man approaching to her companion, at once realizing how utterly drained he was...

Aidan's body was slumped by the time they reached the dorm rooms, the teachers were currently housed on the top floor while their wing was being finished, eventually they would be moved inside the actual university building. At the moment, the stairs looked daunting, but not as bad as Professor Wynden.

"What is going on here!?" The commanding old man had once been a Knight, educated in the halls of Emperess Segney, he knew his magic as well as he knew his weapons and currently was the teacher of Magic through Weaponry. Aidan's heart fell, this was a prefect way to start a new job, showing up with a bleeding woman, about to collapse.

With an effort beyond what any could expect, he straightened up and ran a hand through his hair, appearing suddenly relaxed. "Sorry Jordan, old man. Didn't mean to frighten you. My friend and I went out for quite a hike there, she actually had a bit of a tumble. We were just headed up to my rooms to clean up properly. Anyways, we should be going now."

The old man huffed loudly but went back on his way, thankfully outside the front doors. As soon as he left, Aidan's shoulders hunched. "The stairs," was all he managed to say, his burst of energy depleted. Heading to the large staircase he clung to the railing but slowly made his way up.

Dyra had stood silently as the official looking man had arrived and Aidan sent him away, slightly amazed, and then watched as he went off to bully someone else, sighing in relief. Her gaze fluttered briefly around the hall, and then settled once more on Aidan, and didn't leave again. Helping him up the stairs, she wondered briefly how he had made it as far as he had.

The top of the stairway seemed like an eternity away, but once there, it was no more than another obstacle overcome. Worry had begun to cloud her features at the top, her companion really didn't look good, and she wasn't sure what to do, her voice was soft but rough when she spoke again, "Which way, Aidan? How far?" Maybe, she thought for an instant, maybe she could give him just a touch of her energy...and felt her gift flare up in response...but doing so would tie him to her, and she couldn't do that to anyone again...she'd done enough harm in her life, she wouldn't resort to that unless it was absolutely necessary.

Pushing her gift back again, she felt weary just from the effort...but she wouldn't stop. Not until he was safe for a while. She hadn't had anyone to lean on in a while, and she hadn't had anyone lean on her, it was unusual, feeling needed again, but it was an emotion that she wanted to hold on to for as long as she could...

Aidan sensed that she was about to do something that would help, something that would cause pain to her and possibly to him. He had to get control of his body. Although he was so tired he thought he might faint, he pulled himself upright, letting pride be his only crutch. Silently, he made his way down the wide hallway. The teacher's floor was the biggest, the rooms suites instead of just a room with a dressing room attached. They would eventually be for the 'rich' students. The ones who donated to the school. Patrons and their children.

For now, the floor was for the teachers, their own rooms going to be far more grand... eventually. So they told them, anyways. A door, about halfway down was left part-way open, a typical Aidan move. Inside was the sitting room with a door leading out from each side. The right was the bathing room and the left was his bedroom. He took little time actually examining the room but dispite his door being open, nothing appeared to be missing.

It was there that his legs gave out, on the floor of his sitting room he lay, his breath shallow, eyes rolling back a bit in his head as lids fluttered shut.

He had made it to his room under his own strength, Dyra trailing behind him with a lost look on her face. She wasn't sure if she should follow him into his room or not, so she stopped by the door, and looked around the hallway for a moment, trying to think of something she could be doing, somewhere she should be going.

A loud thump broke her from her thoughts, and she turned into the open doorway, looking for something amiss. She found it easily, and panic almost took over as she saw Aidan's body lying on the floor. Her gift, which she'd pushed back earlier, resurfaced, her eyes turning black as charcoal, as she knelt beside her friend. Her hand reached over his chest, inches above his skin. She wasn't going to heal him, but she needed to make sure that he wasn't hurt more than he would recover from...she didn't need to touch him to do that, just feel the energy flowing in his body without trying to interfere with it. And she could do that easily enough, she thought.

A single glimpse of his energy though, and she was rocked back, crying out involuntarily. It was so different than anything she had ever seen before. Twisted where hers was torn and shattered, it pushed her mind close to madness just to look upon it...her gift dropped as though shattered, falling deep into herself as though hiding, and she hugged at herself in comfort for a moment.

Pushing away the emotion, she stood, and using reserves of energy she didn't know she had, half carried, half drug Aidan to his bed. She placed him on top of the plush comforter, tears slipping silently down her cheeks, she knelt beside the bed, knowing that she couldn't leave until he awoke again...understanding at last why he seemed to understand....

Aidan's sleep was nearly useless for he found himself being chased by visions throughout his entire rest. His body, however, recovered a bit, having been stationary and in a comfertable position. When he awoke, he was a bit shocked to find himself in his bed, the last thing he remembered was walking through the woods with a strange woman, her name lost to him now, something that had been so clear the day before.

Looking at the window, he was assured that it was the next day, rays of sun shining through the blinds. The woman from before had not left, seated beside his bed. His body refused his first two attempts to sit, head pounding, muscles threatening to cease. Finally, with a massive effort, he proped himself up.

"Thank-you," he muttered, closing his eyes to block out the headache forming behind his temples. Thankfully, he still wore his clothes, he would have felt strange around her had she undressed him, though he already felt strange enough. He was unsure how to deal with the situation. Clearly, he owed her his life, the coin that had passed between them earlier made redundent after all they had faced.

Two black-outs in a period of three days, that was not a good record to start. The last one had been bad but if they were going to be so frequent he would loose his job here. How was he supposed to teach "Dealing with Magical Energies" if he could no longer deal with his own.

Aidan had slept, and Dyra had thought, and throughout the night, she kept reaching the same conclusions...she was too dangerous to stay, and he was too dangerous for her to stay around. It was an unusual circle she found herself in, and one that she wasn't accustomed to, and didn't know how to react to. So she sat, and waited, and poked and prodded at the memories that she'd gained throughout the night...very little was coming back to her, but the few memories that had returned weren't good. There was a battle before she fled, she had killed someone, someone familiar to her.

She could see the dry husk of a person that she'd left behind, and the thought of doing that to someone else terrified her. She needed to go, to find out who she was.

Aidan awoke the next day, after she had spent the night thinking about who she was and what she would do. At first, he seemed confused and flustered with her presence, which was probably a good thing for her. Smiling at him briefly, her voice was filled with hesitation when she spoke, "Thank you for guiding me here...but...I must go, Aidan..." Her eyes were a clouded grey, as she waited on his response...

For all he did, he could not remember anything about the woman but clearly he had helped her. At least, thats what she said. His mind became more foggy about the experience the more he awoke into the real world. He had this vague feeling that he should be more concerned, that he should be trying to get her to stay.

What could he do, he didn't even remember her name?

"Your welcome." He said, his face freezing into an emotionless mask. He had maintained his life just fine without anyone in it, if he was meant to befriend this girl, destiny would see fit to making it happen, with or without his interferience. For now, he wasn't purposly bringing anyone in his life he didn't need to.

"I am feeling better now. Thank-you for staying." The way he spoke, he made it clear if she wanted to leave now, she may, but did not ask her to leave. If she wished to stay, he would help her, find her a place to stay, whatever was needed. She had done well by him, that much he knew.

Dyra smiled faintly at Aidan, and nodded, not knowing what else to say. Stepping almost silently to the door, she yawned, her fatigue finally beginning to set in, and wondered when she'd see him again. Shaking the cobwebs from her mind, she thought of the peace she'd felt in the clearing they'd stopped in...she could still feel it faintly in the distance, but it felt further and further from reach.

She'd already stepped out of his room when she felt the subtle shift of her gift. Another memory coming back, no more than one...she was too tired to try to stop the memories. Falling to her knees, she wondered vaguely what had made her remember, but couldn't pursue the thought, already, she was flooded with thoughts, sights, smells, emotions, and sensations that she couldn't stop. There was a never ending line of people....each one being 'healed' by her, and each time she felt smaller, felt torn...until she understood, couldn't help but understand, what she was.

It must have only been minutes, although to her, it felt as though an eternity had passed, as though time had stopped for a moment. Her voice locked inside, her eyes pressed closed, she could hear a desperate plea throughout each memory, each vision, and as time passed it became both louder and less clear, each word blurring or becoming something else. What had started as a 'No more, please stop' had disintegrated to nothing more than a faint wail in her mind...slipping down the wall, until she lie there, unmoving, she passed out, her dreams forcing her to relive all she'd done...

Lying there on the floor, her breathing was a quick ragged gasp in her sleep, but that wasn't the most disturbing sight...shadows flickered softly over her still form, not vivid, but softly enclosing her in a subtle darkness...

Aidan moved slowly, circling the fallen woman as if she was a striking snake. The signs were clear, having been on the receiving end of vision before he could regcognize when someone else was feeling the same pains. With deliberation, he bent down and lifted the woman in his arms, she was far to light, hardly a burden at all for him. He carried her back into his rooms and settled the woman in his own bed.

He worried for her but his own hunger stopped him from pacing his sitting room, waiting for her to awake. He made his way to the dressing room, a bowl of water left by the servant's, he washed his face and changed his clothes, the old ones stained with blood from helping Drya. Suitable to leave his rooms now, he reflected on what a mess he must have been when he entered, probally falling over himself, fresh blood stains on his clothes, a women bleeding from fresh wounds. He shook his head, he would have a lot to explain later.

For now, he had to deal with the woman sleeping in his room. On a short visit to the kitchen he collected fresh bread and butter, two mild bowls of soup (selecting one that would taste alright cold), some fresh vegtables from the University gardens and a pitcher of cold water. They had superb veggies, most grown by Nature Signs learning to control their powers.

Pouring himself a glass, he sat next to the bed, chewing on a piece of bread, contemplating his own thoughts.

ooc: I love the total change of positions. LOL

(OOC: LOL, I couldn't think of anything else, my minds all fuzzy...)

The sudden end of the memory was shocking, and Dyra's eyes flashed open instantly. The gentle grey flickered to black, as she looked up at the strange ceiling. This wasn't a common experience for her, her dreams usually kept her locked inside until she found her own way out...for them to just end...was definately not normal.

Her breathing was slow, barely evident as she sat up in bed, looking around with eyes the color of charcoal, but there was no danger here...only someone sitting patiently beside a bed she didn't remember getting into. Her eyes flickered for a moment, and then settled back into a light grey. "Aidan?" Her voice was smooth, but there was a strange hitch in it, as though she wasn't sure if what she was saying was right.

Memories fluttered back and forth through her mind as she looked around, trying to get them to still for a moment. Shivering unexpectedly, she looked at the man she was coming to rely on far more than she was used to, "What happened?" Looking down for a moment, she saw the shadows fluctuating around her wrist, and paled, pulling her sleeve down over the sight. "Never mind...I think I know..." Looking away, tension pulled at her features, and she cursed silently.

She told him not to mind her question but he felt compelled to answer it anyways. "I found you on the floor." Very near the spot he had passed out actually, but he no longer remembered that, likely never would. It was a shame to meet someone when he was having an attack, he would always have a gap in their meeting, some people he didn't remember at all, which became a problem when they knew him and he couldn't have a clue who they were.

At least he remembered part of their meeting. He needed to remember her name, though. She knew his, even if it seemed strange coming from her mouth, it would be unspeakably rude to ask her for hers now. Closing his eyes for a moment, he concentrated, sinking to the level of his gift for a moment and reaching outwards.

He didn't read her mind, rather glimpsed parts of herself, mainly her future. He didn't do it often, people felt uncomfertable with him after they learned it was possible. The moment her name popped into his head, he fled. He already learned one thing he rather not have known.

"How are you feeling Alledyra?"

Dyra grimaced, then smiled, "Like my head has become a church bell and it's midnight..." chuckling softly, she pushed her hair back from her face, "But I'm getting used to the feeling." Standing slowly, she stretched, her slight form arching like a cat after a good nap. It was a good feeling, pressures releasing from muscles and joints that she hadn't known were tense.

Feeling the subtle, feather soft touch of his gift, she vaguely wondered who it was, but it fled before she could focus on it. Besides, no harm had come of the contact, maybe just a curious mind somewhere exploring...but they should be more careful...you never knew what you'd find when you just threw your gift out like that...sometimes you found places you couldn't come back from...

With every passing second, she felt better, her memories finding places that they were supposed to be, and settling back into the fog, not right there in the front of her mind, and she looked around, sorting through her more recent memories. Realizing that she was still in Aidan's room, her gaze flicked to him, and she cleared her throat. She hadn't known him more than a few days, and if she continued to stay here, she was sure that there were bound to be rumors flying around the University, if there weren't already.

"Aidan," Her voice was smooth once more, as close to normal as it'd been so far, "I can leave now..." She really wasn't sure how to put into words what she was trying to say, it didn't really bother her, but she didn't want his reputation here swayed by her arrival, or her...appearance..."I might be easier for you..."

"I know the feeling," he laughed softly, a pleasent sound for he was normally so somber. He had just woken with his head ringing loud as can be though. "If you are up to standing, there is warm water in the dressing room and food in my sitting room, nothing fancy, just good honest food." It was funny to think food could be honest but it was likely more honest than most people. He really did think to much, no one really contimplated the honesty of food. A small grin, he waited to see if Alledyra needed help.

She seemed to have gone back off into her daze, her common dreamy eyed expression showed trouble was in the brewing in that head of hers. He felt compelled to distract her, keep her from the things that we causing her pain. "Up now, come eat and clean up, we'll worry about things like you leaving after."

He was very cheerful with her about, honestly, he really did not want her to leave, but he saw the problem with her staying in his room. His reputation he did not care about but he had hers to consider, no matter how honorable he was with her, people would still talk. He thought they could tell people she was his sister but the idea left him feeling cold ... no, he would try to get her a place to stay, even off - campus, nearby.

"I can decide what is easy for me." His voice was gentler today, his mood having greatly improved.

At the mention of food, Dyra's eyes dialated dramatically, and her stomach rumbled. She was hungry. In fact, she couldn't remember the last time that she'd had properly prepared food...something not found on the road, or dried for a long trip. She looked at Aidan with something like ironic guilt on her face at the rumbling in her stomach, but it was filled with humor. "I'll take you up on that..." and chuckled easily, "In fact, I don't think there's anything that sounds better."

Stepping into the dressing room, she used a cloth to give herself a quick once over. After her soaking from the river, she wasn't as grimy as she could have been, but she was far from perfectly clean. Stepping out from the dressing room, she smiled at Aidan, a drop of water poised perfectly on her nose from her quick dry.

"And now, to eat!" Smiling mischieviously at Aidan, her voice seemed to have a challenge in it, not a daring one, but one none the less. Somewhere between playful and serious, her eyes caught at his again, "I know...we're both so very good at taking care of ourselves..."
